Building the Page: Ch 5 / Pg. 1 (Patreon)

WOAAA between the last chapter and the new chapter Patreon started allowing PHOTOSETS!!!!! This is huge, finally I can just dump all page stages into a single post, I'm so happy!!!! 😭

I want to try and do this kind of writeup every week - if not for every page, the pages I find most interesting? I'm sharing this first post with ALL PATRONS, but going forward I'll stick these in the $5+ tiers.

WHEW jumping into Chapter 5!!!! Attached are the thumbnail / pencil / ink / color notes version that I handed off to Jones for final colors! You can see the final version of Page 1 here.  

This page was actually added to the script WAY WAY late and it went through a bunch of different forms. (It was added so late it's still labeled in my personal files as "Page_0" lol) Originally I think it was going to be a single shot of Hale's personal notes and some open textbooks - but we decided that was a little too info-dump-y, so we added a narrated page from his POV instead that touched on the same flavor of information. IMO THIS VERSION WORKS WAY BETTER!

I spent a lot of time looking at photos of messy dorm rooms hahaha - it's been a while since I was in college, but dorm rooms still look the same. I SPECIFICALLY wanted to use that chair that Hale is sitting on - that really utilitarian wooden chair that has the diagonal leg section so you can lean back? I don't know about anyone else, but those were standard issue in my school. 

Looking back the one thing I messed up in the environmental storytelling is that Hale has curtains; he'd never put up curtains, he'd use the standard issue blinds that came with the room. Maybe they're blackout curtains? He seems like a skip-morning-classes-to-sleep-in kinda guy.
