BUCK had this power long before he met ZOE. 

A forest further away from Postwick. This forest, where the private sanctuary "Outside the Wilderness" stands, definitely has a mysterious power. This forest has been feared by different names over the years, such as the "Witches' Forest" and the "Devil's Forest," and it draws in those who have darkness in their hearts. 

The forest was a gateway to the "other side". In other words, "Upside-down". A world of madness and absurdity, where all the theories that exist in this world do not apply. They reflect the spirit of those who have darkness in their hearts, and appear before them in different forms. I don't know if they are nightmares or hallucinations, but they dominate even the five senses. 

Perhaps it was inevitable that BUCK was taken into custody by the YUKON family. He had the worst ability of all. He had the worst ability of all: the ability to become his own host and summon Upside-down into the real world. Upside-down begins its invasion of the real world, invading his body and mind. Eventually, BUCK will become a decaying host, with a body that cannot die and intense pain. 

Their mission is to protect BUCK's mind. If his mind collapses, Upside-down will take him in.
