This is the making of a recent artwork.

I started to gradually adopt this method of painting around March of this year, and I am currently working to stabilize this method of painting.

If you are an avid reader of my artwork articles, you may know that I have been searching for a way to paint for the last year. In particular, I was struggling with the grisaille painting method, which involves coloring from a gray base, and every time I tried it, I failed and had to make major adjustments.

After understanding the gradient map around March, I finally started to get a feel for it, and am currently practicing so that I can use it more.

The good thing about this method of painting is that you can create a rough finished drawing at the color rough stage, and you can use the color rough as it is in the clean-up stage. This is a faster process than the "layer-by-layer method" often used by Japanese artists who draw animated characters. And because you can almost see the finished drawing, there is less time to stop and think about it, and you feel the speed of the process is also faster.

(The color rough is up to the fourth sheet, and at this point there is no significant difference from the finished drawing.)

Since I started working on commissions, I have learned painting techniques from many different artists, sometimes adding, subtracting, or forgetting them as I explored various techniques, but now I feel as if all the disparate hints are finally coming together.
