Hey, Scott here!

A little earlier this year, I had an idea to make a video essay about the sonic film that came out in February. I'd been mulling the idea over since the initial trailer came out, but it wasn't until after the film came out that it really got me eager to put my thoughts to paper.

I usually avoid getting too heavily critical about media, as I'm not particularly an expert, but I'm putting a lot of time and effort into making it work.

Here's a small preview of the opening bit. The final product is closer to 16 minutes! Hope you enjoy.

Looking forward to the rest of it, Scott!

I very much agree with this viewpoint even without having seen the movie so I'm looking forward to the video! Love analysis stuff!

...So, chat me up. I rather liked the movie. Should I sit down and listen anyway, knowing it'll mostly be someone I generally agree to disagree with articulating a point I'll probably disagree with based on tastes I do not share?

Scott here, The video itself is 100% me laying out my personal perspective on why I feel the film is generally enjoyable, but falls short at being a truly good Sonic the Hedgehog film. I try to make sure it's generally well-natured (with a couple of cheeky shots taken for the sake of comedy) but it's not some kind of "IT'S BAD IF YOU DON'T AGREE YOU'RE DUMB" sort of rant. I also try to be funny throughout. Whether or not I succeeded will be up to the general public.

You know what? I really appreciate you taking a moment to give my honest question an honest answer. I’m still not sure if I’ll agree with you at the end of this, but between that and your reassurance it won’t just be an angry rant about how much it sucks and therefore implicitly or explicitly how stupid I am for liking it, I find myself much more inclined to sit down and watch it when I have a chance. Thank you.

First of Scott, you're funny, you don't have to try. It hurts when you try :3. Second, I think if at some point that true fans, and the creators of particular video game/cartoon/anime are sitting down when scripting, that we can have a good anything live action. The problem, I feel, is that so many of these movies are edited to give them a welcoming feel even if you know nothing about the franchise they are making a movie for. But that's dumb, because it causes the divide between people who say "No it did everything wrong" and the people who say "I don't know, I thought it was a cute, funny movie". I'll look forward to the more in depth video, but ultimately, I think anything "can" be done for live action, it just, most certainly, "won't" be done.

Cool! That's good to know. I don't mind that take at all. But I was also confused because I thought the movie was surprisingly good! And nice use of the word masticate!
