There were some interesting connections made here between the COVID regime and the Ukraine war, especially with regard to the roles of the technocracy and the media. The discussion kind of makes it sound like we entered a new era with COVID, and to assess this idea I wonder if it would be helpful to put the recent past in broader historical perspective. For example, how does the complicity of the media *now,* or the consensus among the political elites with regard to pandemic management or the war, differ from the long post-1917 consensus around anti-communism? After all, "Manufacturing Consent" was written in the '80s ... Or is the idea that we had a period of relative openness after the Cold War, and now we've returned to a more repressive kind of climate?
