I think she's A) Reacting, and hit it as hard as you can is a pretty solid reaction to being attacked, all things considered. and B) Max did tell her to draw aggro in the last superhero fight she was involved in.

We see here a good example of the limits of the Amaze Balls and Sydney's means of controlling them. If she could use three at once, she could fly around the construct, firing at it from all angles. Its shield can only face one direction. If Sydney can fly faster than it or can fly unpredictable (a given for our Sydney I think) it would not be able to keep its shield blocking forever. As things are now, that would mean dropping her shield, which is probably a very bad idea.

We know that sydney can move the orbs around so does she need to be holding the orb or could she just hold it against her palm?

This is why I'm hoping the double line node present on all of the orbs is a "hands-free" option. It's also why I'm super curious which node she selected. Was it the double line node, was it in the linear tree, or was it in the strange 12 node circular tree?

She said that she had tried all sorts of ways to get around the two orb limitation. I think we must credit her with the intelligence to having tried that. There was also her difficulty in attaching her headpiece while keeping her grip on the flying orb. I think, for now, we have to accept that there is a limit of two powers at the time.
