She kinda accidentally figured out how to use teleport via the telepresence orb the mission to find Sciona, when she was attempting a lower risk lower option sneak & speak. Probably though it best not to outshine your commander power-wise especially since she had planned to avoid using that power again unless absolutely necessary since it worked out poorly for her the first time.

Wait - Sydney "died" after she accidentally teleported, and she told Maxima that she "died", so I assumed that she told Maxima about accidentally teleporting in a debrief held off camera. Maxima had an untrained recruit "die" under her command, so she would have asked questions, and I can't imagine any way... OK, I can imagine Sydney saying "I was there on the roof looking through the remote, I found Pixil, and then I was there in the roof before Pixil left. "
