8 May 1945: VE-Day (Patreon)

8 May 1945: The Second World War in Europe ends. It was marked in a fairly low-key way by this Cromwell crew. This photograph belonged to Trooper 14409739 Leonard Smith, a Cromwell driver in B Squadron, 1st Royal Tank Regiment. He was wounded in Normandy in early August 1944 and evacuated to the UK.  He returned to 1 RTR in March 1945 and served with them until August 1947.
