‘Range wrecks’ are a vital part of training tank crews in gunnery. Hulks stripped of anything flammable, they can stand up to a great deal of punishment as they are slowly destroyed by hits from armour piercing rounds that contain no explosive. Old, or in wartime captured, tanks are a good source of these expendable targets. This is the latter, a Soviet T-34/76 on Putlos range in Germany in August 1945.

So was it employed by the Wehrmacht or the allies ? I can see the psychological advantage of using enemy tanks: their machines are proved not invincible, useful for enemy vehicle recognition. My tank would never end up like that!
