Taran, I'm curious... how do you manage the big masses of fur? You manage to make them look very chaotic and clumpy but in a controlled manner. Lots of references? Or do you have some sort of method of going about and adding value?

A large part of it, is that I’ve drawn a lot of fur 😂 But I think there are a few factors. First is that if you want that messy clump of fur you don’t really want to have any parallel lines next to each other. Part of that chaotic look is having the hairs or clumps going in many different directions. (Usually coming to points for larger clumps) Next it’s just extrapolating that hatching pattern to different parts of the form. (To the edge, as well as to the transition from light to dark) the only difference difference between the edge and the transition of the form is the concentration of the lines. On the edge the concentration is going to be pretty average, but within the form itself, you’re trying to give the illusion of form as well as texture, so you basically have go from a high concentration of that hatching pattern (shadows) to a low concentration (highlights). That’s basically all I’m doing. 😉👍
