Final reading list of the year! Enjoy!

Articles

I’m Sorry You’re Lonely but It’s Not My Job to Help You: The Science of Incels - this was Emily Nagoski’s recent newsletter. I think my favourite line might have been “Adults are responsible for sorting out their own shit, figuring out how to have relationships, finding ways to get their needs met without hurting anybody, even in the face of deeply toxic culture. Women have been doing that for themselves since forever; men are no less personally responsible.”

Videos

The Depressing Normalization of the Useless Husband - a bunch of people shared this video (and the podcast episode with the author of Fair Play) from The Financial Diet in the comments of my recent video about relationship maintenance. I loved the video and excited to listen to the podcast on my next walk!

reviewing EVERY Rom-Com I’ve watched, ONE SENTENCE each. - a fun one from Leena! Yes it’s months old, I had an evening recently where I managed to make a very small dent in my watch later playlist and thoroughly enjoyed this one!

7 Movie Reviews in 4 Minutes - weirdly another quick fire movie review video, this time from Hank Green!

In Praise of Subtle Performance - instead of watching my watch later playlist I got sucked into watching this video about acting. Still fun!

Elon Banned my Twitter: Here’s What Happened Next - trust Jazza to fuck around with twitter and then have his account blocked. What is even happening with twitter now? I’ve not used it for a while but now I don’t see myself ever going back.

Podcasts

Not sure how I feel about podcasts doing these “replay” episodes where it’s just a re-uploaded old episode but I was feeling a bit of Emma Gannon’s podcast and found myself listening to some “replays” I didn’t catch the first time round so I can’t be that mad.

Christine Armstrong (Replay): The Myth of Work-Life Balance - I keep thinking more and more about this especially as a part time working mum. THE WORK LIFE BALANCE IS A CONCEPT TO KEEP US TRAPPED IN THE IDEA THAT WE SHOULD SEPARATE WORK AND LIFE IN OUR BODIES MINDS AND SOULS.

Laura Dockrill (Replay): Motherhood, Mental Health & Me - this goes into some really heavy mental health topics. Laura experienced postnatal psychosis which I’d never heard of before until I heard about her story.
