Hello! We’re back! I’m so sorry there was no reading list in August, it was one of those things where everything else was urgent and had strict deadlines and so this just kept getting pushed and pushed. But we’re back now and hopefully there’s at least some interesting things I can share with you… I say that because 1) I haven’t been consuming that much due to baby taking up most of my time (my YouTube watch later playlist currently sits at 245 videos 😭) and 2) when I have managed to watch/read/listen to the odd thing it’s either entirely boring and baby related or I forget to save it because I’m out of the habit!

So who’s to say what we’re going to find here… there may be some stuff from recent times and perhaps some old stuff that’s been sitting in my Pocket app for months maybe years. Here we go!

How we permanently adopted a 32-hour workweek at The Financial Diet - the conclusion of The Financial Diet’s 4 day work week experiment.

Netflix’s Sandman - An Adaptation Done Right - I absolutely bloody loved The Sandman on Netflix and was curious to see what readers of the comic thought about the adaptation and Noria had posted a video about just that!

Roasting Conservative leadership videos because the country’s on fire anyway - completely forgot about this video but it gave me lots of giggles at 3am whilst breastfeeding. We now do in fact have a new prime minister, Liz Truss and fml this country is just in shambles but I digress! Penny Mourdan’s campaign video gave me such Capitol propaganda video vibes from the Hunger Games. Tell me I’m wrong.

They did Jane dirty - ‘Persuasion’ (2022) - apparently when it comes to the time I do have to watch YouTube videos I prioritise videos about adaptions of books I haven’t read 😂 this is Leena’s take on Netflix’s Persuasion but I also have takes from Noria and Mina Le in my watch later playlist. Took me about 7 sessions to finally finish watching Persuasion itself and it was fine. Easy viewing when I couldn’t 100% pay attention to it and not exactly a complex plot I had to remember considering how many times I had to stop/start the movie.

was CINDERELLA a ‘costly mistake’? | the closing night curtain call drama explained - I don’t really do the late night breastfeeding YouTube watching anymore but when I did, did I use that as an opportunity to make a dent in my watch later playlist? No. I devoured videos recommended to me by YouTube and one such channel I watched a lot of is MickeyJoTheatre. Genuinely really enjoy his reviews of west end shows but also DRAMA that happens in the theatre biz like all the shit with AJW and Cinderella.

Ranking Taylor Swifts BEST Bridges (soooo ILLEGAL) - another channel that got me through many a-late night breastfeeding sessions (Rowan is still waking up for night feeds but they don’t last as long anymore) is Chats and Reacts. Two friends chatting and reacting to music and there is A LOT of Taylor Swift content. Their videos are LENGTHY. This is is 1.5 hours and their album breakdowns often way over 2 hours 😅 their insights and joy is so contagious to watch (and also their accents - I definitely starting speaking with a bit of an Australian twang for a while). I have also never heard the words ‘illegal’, ‘superior’, and ‘offensive’ so many times.

Narnia - Why Susan Deserved Better - one I watched before Rowan was born but I will gobble up video essays about Narnia, I LOVED those books. I still have the copies I had as a child and would love to re-read them someday. Anyway, Justice for Susan. This video was great.

Reading #GirlBoss Made Me Lose My Mind with Chelsea Devantez - episode of Bad with Money with Gaby Dunn. Really enjoyed this because I was definitely one of those white middle class young women swept up in the girl boss thing in 2014 and read this book back then. So refreshing to revisit the book now with my new perspectives on money, work and capitalism without actually having to read it 😂

How Email Took Over the World w. Anne Helen Petersen - an episode of You’re Wrong About. I listened to this before Rowan was born so can’t remember many specifics but when I saw it in my Pocket app I got the feeling that I had to share it because it was interesting?!?! haha
