The Brit Crew: What happened to Britain’s most recognisable YouTubers?  - you know I love me a deep dive into YouTubers/channels that aren’t as popular as they once were in the hopes that I will find some happy people on the other side of ‘YouTube fame’ just chilling. Although one thing that this article fails to mention which is why many of the YouTubers in the Brit Crew could afford to step away/make big career changes is because they had already made their millions and were set for life.

The Internet Is Failing Moms (Mums)-to-Be - this was shared in the discord server but wanted to share here in case anyone missed it and wanted to give it a read. It’s about misinformation about pregnancy online and I talked about it in my second trimester vlog but ended up cutting it out because that video was getting LONG!!! But this article is wild, definitely more US focused as it’s a much bigger problem in the US and I feel very lucky to have the NHS provide lots of great online information about pregnancy. Also, this article just really hit home for me how exploited pregnant people are as we are such a vulnerable and ready to part with our cash market. The potential for companies to make money from pregnant people and their anxieties is huge.

Is It Just Me Or... Does Everyday Kindness Still Matter?  - another great essay from Megan Jayne Crabbe’s newsletter.

what i learned from posting 100+ storytimes on YouTube - had to watch this from Carrie Dayton after seeing the Internet Analysis video about storytime youtubers.

Psychology of a Hero: BLACK WIDOW - loved this from Cinema Therapy. Black Widow is a character from the MCU who just got better and better to me the more we saw of her and the more I think about her as a character. I’m so glad she finally got her own movie but I’m still mad about Endgame ok.

So... TikTok Sucks - yes this an inflammatory video title but I love me a deep dive from Hank Green about social media tech platforms and the creator economy. I don’t know much about how TikTok works but this is FASCINATING.

2 Designers Transform The Same IKEA Billy Bookcase - this was fun and very satisfying to watch.

How to Identify and Deal with a Narcissist, Financially and Otherwise - really interesting episode of The Financial Confessions but I mainly wanted to share it because I felt personally attacked when the interviewee said that money and finance should be taught in schools (agree) and that it’s more important to teach than sex education (wait what?!?!). I literally did a double take listening and had so many thoughts starting with 1) you’re lucky if you get sex education in school in the US so it’s not exactly taking up valuable timetable space 2) can we please not create a hierarchy of subjects that should be taught in school but are often missed out that would be classified as “life skills”? I’m curious what you think - is it ever useful to say one subject is more important than another? If you did had to prioritise “life skills” subjects including things like sex ed and money how would you do it?

I listened to that Financial Confessions episode, but totally missed that comment! Absolutely think we need both financial AND sex ed in schools... as well as many other life skills that are lacking. Never going to happen with current funding & political climates, but sorely needed. The internet is great as a resource, but can't be a replacement!
