August 2021 Reading List Part 2! (Patreon)

Hi folks,

This is a heads up that the reading lists will be going back to one a month from next month (September). I've just found myself a bit overwhelmed with work at the moment and I need to trim back on a few things - I also speak about this in my next newsletter which will be coming 1st September. Hopefully a reading list once a month though will also be more manageable for you to check out/discuss! I never want you to feel like you HAVE to read/watch these things, obviously they are just suggestions and I would love to chat about any of them that you happen to consume 🙂

How I Decreased My Social Media Use from 5 Hours to 5 Minutes A Day - today I learned that you can see you daily average time spent on Instagram and set daily reminders in the app... how did I not know this before?? Menu (those three lines) — your activity — time. 27 minutes a day average, not bad! And that big spike on Tuesday was because I was making some insta stories for a brand so #work #contentcreation 😂 that tiny little bar on Sunday was 3 minutes!

How We Won: The Community That Saved Latin Village From Demolition - I'll be honest I'd never heard of Latin Village (near Seven Sisters) before reading this article from Novara Media but it's a really incredible story of a 15 year battle where the local community actually won over private developers! I'm really interested to see what comes of the space and if it helps to set a precedent for similar communities and developments in London and across the UK.

If you're interested in learning more about them there's a great episode of You're Wrong About podcast about it and Jon Ronson's The Butterfly Effect podcast mini-series.

Marrying a Man as a Mormon Lesbian | Interview with TikTok Star Ash Morgan - real interesting interview about Ash's experience!

How the British Empire Exported Homophobia | Empires of Dirt - this is a VICE doc series and now I feel like I need to watch all of them and get the education that I should have been given in school!

Who's Your Teacher?  - Anna Akana's friend made a doc about sex education!

Dealing With Abrupt Heartbreak - Allison from Just Between Us has been very open about her experience of her fiancé out of the blue broke up with her. I think I have a bit of a morbid curiosity watching her talk about it but also I think it's really valuable to see this process of someone grieving a relationship, what happens when suddenly the life you thought you would have is taken away from you but ultimately her being okay and surviving the heartbreak.
