Episode 7 Further Reading
Audio version: Orgasm is not the best part of sex - Franki also made an audio version of her latest newsletter which is great if you want someone else to read it for you!
Fuck me to tears - if you need more convincing that Franki is great here’s a guest blog she wrote for Girl on the Net. It starts with a sexy story but then goes into discuss crying during/after sex. Why people do it and what it means.
The Coronavirus Is a Disaster for Feminism - not just in terms of domestic violence having risen but also in terms of the long term effects on women work and position in society.
Teenagers need to know where love stops and abusive relationships start - Holly wrote this piece for The Guardian when The Places I’ve Cried in Public came out. It made me realise how these conversations about recognising abuse and knowing how to spot red flags just did not exist when I was a teenager.
Other Stuff
The BBC said they cared about sex workers, so why was I mistreated on Louis Theroux’s set? - I feel like I shared this somewhere else and maybe I need a database to keep track of everything but this is actually following up from a previous episode of Pleasure Trove where I talked about the BBC 2 documentary “Selling Sex”. One of the contributors wrote this article for gal-dem about her experience, how she had to fight for inclusion of mentioning she’s autistic and that she felt the doc perpetuated the stereotype of sex workers and trauma. Which I would agree with and I think I made that point in the PT episode.
How millennials are saving the porn industry - fuck yes (some) millennials out here paying for porn. That’s because as a generation, we’re actually starting to earn money, we’re very tech savvy, we’re in a culture that pays for streaming services and convenience. And we love influencers, and that includes porn performers who might have Patreons or Only Fans accounts.
‘How do I convince the Home Office I’m a lesbian?’ - this is an article about people who are seeking asylum in the UK on the basis of sexuality and basically how they have to “prove” something that they put a lot of effort into hiding. Jazza did a great video about this for Creators for Change and got a bunch of his straight friends (including myself) to prove we were straight by answering real questions that the Home Office use.
Infidelity: to stay or go…? - I find this conversations about infidelity really interesting whilst knowing that I’m purely theorising because you never know what it’s like or how you’ll react unless it actually happens to you. In this TEDx Talk, Lucy talks about how there can be a lot of external pressure to quit the relationship and maybe the courageous thing to do is stay and rebuild. If Beyonce and Jay Z can do it, why can’t you? (hypothetical question, not meant as punishment if you want to leave your cheating partner).
Talking to Your Kids about Pornography - from Sex Ed School (Canadian YouTube series for kids, I believe I talked about them in the first episode of Pleasure Trove!). Great article about talking to kids about porn and why it’s necessary to break down these topics.
Meet the Woke Misogynist - want to lose all faith in men all over again?
The women helping Hollywood shoot safer sex scenes - the article I mentioned in the reacting to hollywood sex scenes video about intimacy co-ordinators. How do I get that job?
