Hi all, a new year comes with new ways of thinking about my work processes. I'm trying to find ways to save more time and one of those ways is by looking at what little tasks I'm doing here and there that can be easily automated.

One way is scheduling YouTube videos. Currently, my videos are unlisted until the day they go live when I have to manually make the video live and then do some social posts. This only happens twice per week (except during Vlognukah, which tbh over the Christmas break annoyingly felt like I was still "working" - even if just for 10 minutes a day haha).

The reason I currently do it this way is because I can share unlisted YouTube links with Patrons so you can get access to videos early and comment if you wish (it's always fun to see other people's comments "this video has only been live for 5 minutes but there's a comment from 12 hours ago, HOW IS THAT POSSIBLE?!" hehehe). The thing is, scheduling YouTube videos makes them private which you can't share via links.

But Patreon have another video solution! They have an integration with Vimeo *gasp* so there is potentially another way.

Here are what I see as the pros and cons of using the Vimeo/Patreon integration for early access to videos:

PROS

- Hannah doesn't have to manually publish videos

- videos will actually go out at the same time because it doesn't rely on Hannah being available to click a button

CONS

- you won't be able to comment/like on the actual YouTube video early

That's actually the only con I can think of but it feels like a big one. Unless you guys actually don't care about that?

Anyway, let me know your thoughts in the poll or comment on this post if you want to ellaborate. Patrons are my 1st priority and saving time is my 2nd so if you want to keep it the way it is, that's absolutely fine! That's why I'm asking you!

Hannah x

Wouldn't that take away comments/views/likes from us, as we will be watching it on a different platform? If I've watched it I don't feel the urge to watch it again, comment and like the next day on Youtube.

I am a Patreon supporter of other YouTubers who also use Vimeo and I like it. If it makes your life easier and you can save time, I'm totally up for Vimeo :)

I'm all for saving you time and automating things, but in this instance, I don't dig the idea. I want to be able to like and comment on your YouTube videos. I know that helps your analytics, which I love doing for you, as a major believer in your content/message. And as someone said above, watching it on Vimeo would take away my urge to like/comment on YouTube afterward. And selfishly, Vimeo is blocked at my work, which is where I like to consume your content (with headphones on 😉). But YouTube isn't blocked!

Honestly having early access is the least important factor why I'm a Patreon. I get why others would care, but I consume most of my content over the weekend. So I'd say; stick with YouTube. Maybe an intern could jump in with scheduling? I know you have one from time to time. ^^

Selfishly, I prefer the YouTube manual option as I like to watch the videos on my tv which I can do currently but would not be able to on patron/vimeo

I‘d really love a third option here: Do without „Early Access“. I can only speak for myself, but I decided to become a Patron, because I on the one hand enjoy the content you create for myself and think it’s a very valuable contribution to education and our civil society. On the other hand I‘m in the situation to be able to afford it, and I came to the conclusion that in a capitalistic world nothing can really be free (as in beer). You don‘t really have to offer perks and stuff to „earn“ the support we give besides creating the content you do. Everything you can do and enjoy is a nice bonus, but not anecessity. And the early access feature is not that useful anyway, as most YouTube videos I watch spend days to weeks in my watch-later list until I find the time for them anyway. Long story short: Let’s get rid of this, as it’s a minor thing for us, and a chore for you, which blocks you from doing the stuff we actually want you to do!

I'm just worried that if we watch early on VIMEO it'll effect the views on youtube and potentially damage your stats!!

I'd say whatever's easier for you. I will say though that if it's not possible to like/comment early on youtube, people may not come back the next day just to do so which'll mean less likes, comments and shares to offset the evil youtube algorithm.

Hey Hannah! In the new Creator Studio it is possible to have videos unlisted AND scheduled - at least it works for me without any problems! If you don't have that feature yet, maybe talk to your channel manager and ask them whether you can get on the list?

I'd prefer you stick to YouTube or do not do early access at all. If I watch it on vimeo, YouTube will prompt me to watch your new video, which I've already seen elsewhere, and that's annoying. So I either will watch it on YouTube without early access, or will need to say YouTube not to prompt me your new videos (which I would rather not to do).
