Just articles and videos again, sorry no podcast episodes. I've been listening to Homo Deus on audible so that's taken up all my audio listening time when I'd normally be listening to podcasts. I'm so behind on my podcasts!!!
Videos
How I Make Money Online | Freelance YouTuber and Graphic Designer - someone else did the income breakdown pie chart thing!!
How Game of Thrones uses costumes to show power - love this video by Vox comparing Sansa and Cersei’s costume design and how it mirrors their connected storylines.
An Open Letter to Professional YouTubers - thanks John Green.
Ash Sarkar DESTROYS… herself? - would be interested to know what you guys think of Ash Sarkar. I liked this video about how stupid public debates are.
My Video Went Viral. Here’s why - the video in question I actually hadn’t seen in suggested or homepage so I don’t know what that says about my YouTube use but that’s not the point. Really love this video - talks about virality, “the algorithm”, burn out, titles/thumbnails.
You’re watching Fox News. You just don’t know it. - I love this guy. I watched this video when it first came out and didn’t realise until creating this list about the fucking Steven Crowder harrassment and YouTube just being absolutely useless as per usual. Anyway, Carlos Maza is incredible and we should support and protect him!
Climate Denial: A Measured Response - Speaking of Steven Crowder. Hbomberguy has done another amazing video about climate denial which talks about Steven Crowder and his stupid expensive coffee mug.
Uncomfortable Nuance: Natural Gas Edition - speaking of climate change. Hank did a great video about natural gas and fracking. I learned some stuff.
Application for the role of PRIME MINISTER - Lex is hilarious.

Debunking the myth that anti-Zionism is antisemitic - if we ignore the fact that the headline is like a YouTube title *MYTHS DEBUNKED* I really liked this article. I’m an anti-Zionist Jew and I’ve always been able to reconcile it in my head that anti-Zionism does not equal antisemiticism. But some people just can’t wrap their head around it. I found it interesting how a lot of right wing antisemites are pro-Israel because they admire the ethnic nationalism. I don’t really talk about this online because omg it’s such a shit show. Also, I find it so gross that I (Jewish, never been Israel, literally couldn’t care less) could just rock up and get an Israeli passport and citizenship when that right is denied by so many Palestinians living in borders already. WTFFFFFFFFFFFF.
Actually, Women Do Ask for Money. The Just Don’t Get It. - by the author of Little Black Book (great little handguide for work/business). Love this. Takes the pressure off individuals/women and puts the responsibility back in the structures and social order. Same thing needs to happen if we’re gonna save this planet too LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLLLL.
Sexing up history: how to study and tell the history of sex - if you didn’t know I studied history of university and I took modules in sexual history and wrote my dissertation on the emergence of sexology and sex manuals (1870-1914). Dr Kate Lister is a proper sex historian and she’s got a book coming out next year (I pledged for it on Unbound at least 2 years ago, I cannot wait to get my hands on this book!) Anyway, sex history is great and so interesting and important but also difficult to study.
The taboos around disability and sex put llimits on everyone, disabled or not - love seeing more and more conversations being had about disability and sex.
Should we show pictures of STIs in RSE? - short answer: no. Did anyone else get this in school? I certainly did and it definitely contributed to my fear/disgust around STIs which only made the stigma worse and I had to unpack as I got older.
I can’t believe this dopey, busted-ass website is what messed up our lives - it’s about Facebook. I don’t necessarily agree with everything he says but I also use Facebook less and less these days and no longer have the app or Messenger on my phone anymore. But what do you think about the design? Do you think it’s good/bad?
The Most Measured Person in Tech is Running the Most Chaotic Place on the Internet - New York Times profile of Susan Wojcicki, Queen of YouTube. Really interesting, holy fucking shit what a stressful job.
