When it became apparent I needed a iSight for my next video, I checked the online classifieds. There were actually two available. One was just the camera and cable for $15, the other was complete in the box for $25. The choice was pretty obvious.

The box also contained the various mounts, the manual, the plastic tube carrying case and FireWire cable. I recall watching Steve present it at the 2003 WWDC and then tell everyone assembled that they get a free $149 iSight camera. I don't think the crowd has ever gone that crazy. But somewhat overshadowed by the Oprah car giveaway a year later.

Unexpectedly lightweight and matching the G5 tower design, it's an interesting piece of Mac history.

In addition, the seller included the SightFlex independent mount by MacMice, which may explain why all the iSight mounts are still in the box.

FireWire on a stick

This purchase should at least silence those who say I need a newer camera.

I remember how amazed we were when the first iSight came out. We all wanted one! But after these last three years of Google Meet and Zoom virtual meetings, I'll die a happy man if I never need to use another webcam again! (Of course, I'd still buy an iSight for my collection if one came along.)
