And now you know why Damon wished an eternity of misery to his brother, because he forsed him to become a vampire against his will, condemn to an eternal life alone, drinking people blood. And even if he has reasons to hate his brother, he still loves him, and in the scene between them in their living room, he wanted to unburden his brother of the guilt of what he has done to him, telling him that he hates him because of Katherine, not because of his actions, that is clearly untrue, since we saw them back then, that when Damon told is brother that Katerine is dead and he was not angry with Stefan for loving Katherine too, he knew. That is Damon, he pretends that he doesn't care, because he has been hurted many times, and put up this facade of bass ass that doesn't care, as self preservation mechanism, but he does care, very deeply at the point of letting his brother thinking badly of him, rather than to let him feel remorse for what he did .

I saw a comment under the previous episode’s reaction that likened Stefan’s situation as a parallel to drug addiction. That’s exactly what this is…Stefan is one of the most intricate and multidimensional characters on this show. He fights the vampiric element for his humanity to remain a central part of his existence. He doesn’t fight his humanity but he is in constant battle of the predatory nature of being a vampire. It’s been said a few times in this show…vampires are predators yet the predation of humans does not have to be an element of vampirism. There’s a central theme that this transformation doesn’t have to turn you into a monster despite the challenges that it may entail. That’s one of the reasons why I do love Stefan’s character. There’s a constant battle of his sense of morale and what he was transformed into. At his core, he is in constant connection humanistic emotions, feelings…with a desire to adhere to human ideas of good vs evil. He’s this good soul but you see the human blood igniting the predator within him. We get to see why he has deliberately chosen to live a lifestyle on animal blood only because of the effects of what feeding on humans does to him. He doesn’t want to feed the monster that he can be as a vampire…he doesn’t want to feed the predator and inch away from his humanity. Vampires experience a heightened sense of feelings so he’s experiencing a heightened sense of regret, guilt, and pain over what he is and what he has done but that is what makes him human as well. Like most addicts, the more you feed your addiction, the more you become a shell of yourself. It’s easy to root for Stefan’s character because he comes off as sincere. I love Stefan and Elena..I think they have more chemistry than Damon and Elena which was the selling point of this entire show. I love how open Stefan is with her and it’s a dynamic that feels realistic. They understand each other…it feels destined. Him saving her from death and her being this person who connects to Stefan’s humanity as they are both deeply empathetic souls. I, personally, like Elena as she is. I can’t imagine her being a vampire because of how her character is written. The sob story with Damon comes off as an excuse…in a previous episode he was COMPLETELY and WILLINGLY into wanting to become a vampire. I do get that his motivation was entirely dependent on Katherine but holding a grudge and purposely seeking revenge because your brother loved you so much, he didn’t want to live an eternity without you, is ridiculous. I would understand Damon’s pov if he didn’t chase the love of Katherine and that being a vampire didn’t entice him at all but if one form of love could make him want to turn, how come the unconditional love from his brother not? You’d think he’d understand that…it was done out of love and being dependent on the only family you have left. If Damon could follow through with his own motivations purely out of love, why condemn Stefan who was motivated by love as well? Brotherly love…he couldn’t dare live without Damon. That’s also becoming clearer as we watch more episodes. I would feel for Damon if he wasn’t so contradicting as a character. The sob story doesn’t come off as authentic because of everything I said above…the real reason for his vindictive nature towards Stefan seems to revolve around Katherine. He has so much hate in this complicated relationship with his brother because Katherine had a relationship with Stefan as well or victimized him. All the hate he has for Stefan, should be directed towards Katherine. I don’t believe the vampire thing has much to do with it. I mean it’s a factor but a small one in my opinion. It’s just another wrench in his manipulation to try to make Elena see Stefan differently and to get closer to her. Stefan has been the best brother he can be towards Damon…that’s one of the dynamics on this show that he would (seemingly) never part. Stefan would do anything for Damon and him killing his best friend, destroying the quiet he had wanted back in Mystic Falls, couldn’t even dismantle that. It doesn’t make him a bad person or brother because he loved Damon so much, he didn’t want to live many lifetimes without him. Damon still had a choice and chose to feed. Of course Damon loves Stefan as well and you see that even he would do the same…to a lesser extent but it’s still a great addition to this story. I just believe that the writing purposely creates this problem where Damon’s actions are never properly addressed as much as Stefan’s in the show. The characters within the show seem to forget everything he does by the next episode while we get these extended scenes of Stefan having to prove himself over and over after a setback that doesn’t nearly make him villainous or on par with Damon. Ric shouldn’t have this blossoming thing with Damon, at least not this quickly. Damon turned his wife into a vampire. I think it’s fair to analyze Stefan’s actions as well as Damon’s but it goes back to Stefan being this character that suffers from the “moral vampire” syndrome and the moment they are condemned to the demons of vampirism, they’re judged more harshly than, for example, the vampire character that doesn’t have a moral compass (Damon). I do love Jeremy as a character…again, so far, second favorite male character behind Stefan. I like how we see insight of him as this directionless person who craves connection from someone who understands him. I may not be an Anna and Jeremy shipper or whatever people call it but I do like that her character understands him. I like to see Jeremy’s character with some happiness. Speaking of Anna, very sad how short her reunion was his her mother. Very sad for Pearl and Harper because I liked them in the show in whatever capacity. The Isobel reveal was great. Can’t wait for the next reactions. Great reaction y’all 💕
