Getter Robo was the first combining Mech series from 1975. Two manga were published back to back which were Getter Robo and Getter Robo G after which the creator Ken Ishikawa made other manga and then after a 15 year hiatus fellow Mecha mangaka Go Nagai (Mazinger, Jeeg, Cutie Honey, Devil Man) asked Ishikawa to pen another Getter manga as Toei animation wanted another Mecha show but Getter Robo Go the anime bombed so the next three Getter animated projects (Armageddon, Neo vs Shin, and New Getter) told original stories with references to the manga. Ishikawa would pass away while writing the five manga Getter Robo Arc leaving it on a cliff hanger. Go Nagai would make the statement that all fan manga that use Getter would be part of the greater Getter Robo story line and we would get Getter Robo Heian, Getter Robo High, Dino Getter Robo, Getter Robo Anthology, Getter Robo Dark, Getter Robo Apochrypha, and Getter Robo Devolution. Getter Arc would be adapted to a 13 episode anime back in 2021 with a live action movie being announced this year. Getter Robo Armageddon is currently the most popular animated version from this franchise. Just to tell you how much there is to Getter Robo the Youtuber Mrcheese made a retrospective on the franchise 2 years ago and it is 2 and a 1/2 hours long.

And for the lore Getter Rays are a cosmic radiation that forces some species to undergo evolution while being deadly to other species. Professor Saotome would discover Getter Rays and refined them into an energy source for three fighter craft called Getter Eagle, Getter Jaguar, and Getter Bear (Red-Eagle, White-Jaguar, Yellow-Bear.) he would find capable pilots in Karate practitioner Ryoma Nagare and teenage terrorist/revolutionary Hayato Jin to pilot Eagle and Jaguar respectively while Tomoe Musashi a Judo Practitioner would join later as the pilot of Bear with them being the muscle, brains, and heart of the team respectively. Getter Robo Armageddon splits off right here from all the other Getter stories to start its own which is explained at the start of Episode 1. Also yeah will the dub does try to stay accurate to the original script the Japanese Voice Actors just fit so much better. And to explain the relations Hayato frames Ryoma for killing Saotome and Genki sees Ryoma with the gun over Saotome's body but Musashi and Benkei don't believe that Ryoma killed Saotome because all of them were/are friends. Ryoma wants to kill Hayato and now Saotome since he was thrown into the most brutal jail as vengeance but will put his wants on the back burner for bigger problems that would require Hayato's help. The two monsters will be explained later in the OVA but their looks are based on Emperor Gore and Emperor Brai who were the first two main villains from the first two Getter manga. Also the other Getters are Getter Robo G made of Getter Dragon (The many red ones that attacked Ryoma) Getter Liger/Rygar (The Blue ones) and Getter Poseidon which were shown a little during the big fight but one will appear more clearly later on. Shin Getter is made of Shin Getter Eagle, Shin Getter Jaguar, and Shin Getter Bear and will also be shown more later as Shin Getter is the main one for this OVA. And finally Shin Dragon a giant 6,000 meter (6 Kilometer/3.7 miles) long mech made from thousands or millions of Getter Robo Gs is an original creation for this OVA but is inspired off of the mech Uzahra from Getter Robo G.
