Hello Patrons 💗❄️

I finished my last painting for the year! I really enjoyed creating this one! It took a while to finish since I had to give my laptop back to my sister so 90% of the painting was done on Procreate!

I'm usually more accustomed to Photoshop's tools so it took me quite some time to figure out a proper workflow! This painting took 20h! 😅 Due to Procreate's limited layers, I had to limit myself to 29 layers!

I got my laptop,  last night so I ended up finishing the last few touches on Photoshop since I really needed more layers to render the rest of the details (ended up finishing with 50 layers! I usually have around 150 layers when working with a large illustration so this was a nice change haha!

Some thoughts about the piece!

I really wanted to make something cozy for my last painting for 2023 so I wanted to take inspiration from the Toronto Christmas market and put my spin on it! I added some fairy tale characters to this piece!

Since I used Procreate, I utilized their brushes and used it to my advantage! I really like the textures Procreate has so I used it to paint the tablecloth!

I used the Salamanca Brush to create a burlap texture to the cloth!

When I was working with this painting. I wanted to add a ray of light hitting just the top of the apple shop. However, I was struggling to see why it didn't look right:

I realized when working with this type of lighting I have to consider the varying layers of depth and the architectural elements. The light wouldn't just cover all of it on one flat surface but it will be affected by the different shadows. That way it shows a more three-dimensional effect!

My favourite part of painting this image is the bear! Every time, I see videos of bears I can't help but want to hug them even though I know how dangerous they are! They are just so cute so in this world, they are friendly and like to bake pies! 🐻🍎

Thank you all so much for your support!! Happy Holidays everyone! ❄️☃️

Love always,

Maxine

Hi Maxine :) Thank you for much for sharing your process. I am learning a lot just from watching it. Can you just let me know which brush are you using for the base colors?

Hi Samantha! 🥰 I'm using my custom brushes which is available here on Patreon for free! You can check under the posts by searching "brushes." I'm also using Procreate's default brushes: Salamanca, 6B pencil and Bonobo chalk!
