Hello everyone! Here are the process shots of my illustration, "Before Supper."

What started as a photo study turned into an illustration! You can see the process of when I changed my mind!

As you already may know, I’m a big sucker for warm lighting and the golden hour. I wanted the focal point to be on the cat during the early stage (similar to the reference photo), however I changed my mind when I knew I wanted to set the tone to a late afternoon sky.

By adding lots of negative space to the sky, the composition now shifts its focus to the time of the day. I painted the windows with warm yellows to indicate it’s almost evening.

I love painting quiet scenes, so I’m hoping to explore more themes like this! 🤍

How did you manage to change the colour palette?/ How did you come up with it? 🥰

After Procreate, I bring it over to Photoshop and experiment with the adjustment layers! I like to fill the layer with a warmer hue and set it to soft light or if I wanted to go darker I set it to multiply! I also play around with the gradient map as well that’s why you can see the shift from the darker palette to a lighter palette since I was using warm colours with the gradient map ✨!
