Old White Lady here. For months I have LOVEd this song and haven't known why. But now I have a better idea. As my students used to say, "Grassy Ass." Muchas. I hear/see a big BTS influence (N.O. & ON). The music video seems both unsettling and funny: boulders falling out of the sky, but we're going to do push-ups. As Daughter #2 said, "I like those noises. It's hard to concentrate with rocks being thrown at you." Apparently I have a very strong attraction to rhythm. (Thank you, Percussionists) I was in Africa for 2 years and often found I couldn't follow the drum beats at festivals - too complex for my Western ear/body. Of course, that was 1975. Since then, I’ve learned to listen. Texture - synesthesia - often overlooked. I knit. I can look at a sweater and know how it feels. Maybe the changes in texture are what delight me so much in "Scared." Maybe that's the musical equivalent of the falling boulders. In any case, “Scared” makes me giggle. Some of the delight comes from the dancing and rapping. Jiung, Soul, and Jongseob are just cheerfully in your face. Knees and elbows everywhere. Then there are the high tenor wails. It might not be “Nessun Dorma,” but it still gets to my gut. Go, boys! (All'alba vincerò!) A final note: When “Scared” was recorded, Jongseob and Soul were still 15. And they put the ball in the endzone.
