TAEMIN 'IDEA' Reaction

Comments

Bethany R

Very good points! I like this song but find that although I've listened over a dozen times and adore Taemin as an artist, I can't remember the melody in the verses when I'm not thinking very actively about the song. And I'd never considered just how early the first chorus comes in--some very interesting choices

I just googled the chn part of the title and it means "ideal" so the complete title could be "idea: ideal" (unless 이데아 is not just idea like Sean said). I feel like the song could be an internalized conflict while reaching for the idea of perfection/ideal: you think it is your salvation but it is actually killing you.

I definitely agree that "Criminal" had much more memorable melodies. This song has also had to grow on me a little bit, whereas with "Criminal" I was obsessed from the very first listen. Still a good song, but I agree that the toplining could have perhaps used a little more work.

I think the pronounciation (이데아) might be this way because it could be a reference to the Greek origin of the word idea. The Greek word is also the origin for both idea and ideal. And I'm not sure if this theory goes to far, but I think it might be alluding to Platos Theory of Ideas. Where an Idea is the true form of something but also unattainable because even everything that we humans can perceive is a mere image of the true idea of something. So the Greek "idea" in Platos reading is something in between "idea" and "ideal" or a mixture of both. That would in my opinion also explain the chinese part of the title.
