With heavy influence from Japanese music and manga, a name that references League of Legends, members who used to be streamers and TikTokers, and a YouTuber as a CEO, QWER is one of the most unconventional Korean idol groups out there. In this episode we review their 1st mini album, MANITO (meaning "secret friend"), and find it bubbly and refreshing, like soda.

so yeah, QWER was originally a project devised by Kim Egg who basically was like the first celebrity trainer in korea then switched to YT early on. He did a LOT of stuff with Chodan the drummer bc she's also a streamer/YTer and she's SUPER SUPER athletic. Long story short....they both like jpop/jrock and Kim Egg got the idea to form a jpop/rock band utilizing the whole YT/twitch network (Chodan and Magenta already knew each other and Hina was KNOWN by them). Originally they were just going to do one mini album culminating in a concert and that was going to be the project. BUT, they got relatively REALLY popular and their first 2 songs stayed on the charts for a really long time (I think they're still on) so they decided to just keep going.
