Hi fam!

We are back with more Star Trek TOS today with the episode titled The Return of the Archons. This episode was super cool. We got to see Sulu!! (Even though it was for a short amount of time) In this episode, our crew arrives on a planet where the population is brainwashed and subservient to Landru, a mind controlling "god". Landru turned out to be a computer program built by the real Landru, a scientist who lived 6,000 years before, who wanted to guide his people into a peaceful, civilized progress. Once our crew defeated the computer, they were able to bring freedom back to the planet!

I can't wait for you guys to see this episode!

I hope you enjoy it!

Xoxo,

I hadn't seen it for several years before re-watching with your reaction; and I'd forgotten just how strange and creepy the first twenty minutes of this story are. Ultimately, it all comes down to Kirk getting angry at a computer. It's not the last time you'll see this; in fact, the very next story (A Taste of Armageddon) is not so very different. Earlier today, I watched an episode of Voyager (it was my first viewing) where B'elanna Torres becomes sympathetic toward a robot designed and built for war - only to discover that it killed it's human creator/programmer when it came to the conclusion that he was from an inferior species (exactly what the human had inadvertently programmed the robot to think!) The same year Archons was broadcast, Dr Who did a story where the First Doctor confronts a computer similarly programmed, which is designing other computers to assist it in eliminating the inferior human race which designed it. Fear of computers becoming omnipotent has always been a thing in science-fiction. It's now starting to come true!

Omg!! All these shows showed us many moons ago what would happen if we kept "perfecting" computers...and now AI is about to take over the world! 😩😉
