The Squire was played by William Campbell,who was one of the greatest 'never became famous' actors in tv and film. He was prolific, but rarely won any leading roles - but he had great charm and charisma,and ought to have been better known. It is rumoured that the Squire is the child of Q,an omnipotent character from later Trek series (he appeared in a few episodes of Voyager; but was mostly in TNG)
