Hi fam!

5 more to go before the end of TOS 🥹!

We have another episode of Star Trek TOS today. Today's episode is The Cloud Minders. OUUUUHHH fam!! This episode had me UPSET in the end! I went on a bit of a tirade at the end of this episode because of the emotions this episode elicited. I won't spoil anything, but be ready for some expletives!!

Let me know what you guys thought of this one!

Xoxo,

According to the writer of the first draft of the script, David Gerrold, the story was intended to be a polemic against slavery, and was designed to show that (exactly as you said numerous times in your reaction) the cloud people and the miners were all equal in the end. Unfortunately, other writers were brought in to rework the script, and the story ended (much to Gerrolds disgust) with the miners, to all intents and purposes, going back to their work again! To be honest, I found the whole setup too obvious. I don't know if you've ever read H.G. Wells' The Time Machine (if you haven't....read it soon! It's one of my favourite books); but the two types of people in Cloud Minders were very much along the lines of Time Machine's Morlocks and Eloi (the former, slaving under the ground; the latter, lazing around on the surface.....but with a neat twist, which I won't spoil!) Cloud Minders felt to me like a rather tame re-working. Nonetheless, I loved the visual quality of this story. The city of Stratos was a thing of beauty. Your reaction on seeing Droxine for the first time was hilarious! Alien women in this era of Star Trek must be totally beautiful, and wear as little clothing as possible. In other words: Gene Roddenberry's wish fulfilment. Trivia: the view of Ardana from above was actually a photograph of a river in The Yemen, taken from an Apollo space capsule.

Wow, we're getting so close to the end. I'm sad in a way - but also really eager to see you moving on to the first 6 movies; and then Season One of TNG! If you thought I had lots to say so far, you ain't seen nothing yet :D Nonetheless (and this is fair warning) I'm already planning my final post for the last episode of TOS. It's going to be an epic!

Omg! That view was so pretty...I have to look up the real picture again. As for The Time Machine, I haven't read it yet, but I will add it to my list of books for my vacation in December.
