These are undoubtedly strange times in the PlayStation world. As if getting a new CEO next fiscal year wasn't enough of a shakeup, the brand has also lost (in an apparent firing) their long-time Head of Internal Production Connie Booth, someone who has been with Sony since the late '80s and who helped bring to market such titans as Crash Bandicoot, Spyro, Ratchet & Clank, Uncharted, The Last of Us, and more. With fresh layoffs hitting in-house teams like Media Molecule and support hubs like Visual Arts -- and with an increasingly barren upcoming exclusive schedule made even worse by Factions' apparent cancellation -- is it time to panic? Signals are mixed, after all. Spider-Man 2 is PlayStation Studios' fastest-selling title ever and a banger in its own right, and PlayStation 5's console sales are meteoric with or without first and second party offerings. Naturally, we take time to talk about both the big news and the big game in great detail. Plus: Listener inquiries! How're we feeling about Alan Wake 2? What in god's name is going on with the Metal Gear Solid Collection? Should Sony attempt to replicate Nintendo's development continuity in order to extract similar results? Just what is Dustin doing with that figurine in the jar?

Hell yes brother

It’s peculiar to hear just how buggy Spider-man 2 has been for people. I’ve had issues being stuck on wall crawling segments, weird animation stutters going into cutscenes and enemies clipping into walls but this is all prevelant in Spider-man remastered. Atleast on PC. I’m sure the team at insomniac picked up a lot from those who worked on that PC port. I’m interested to know if the bugs were picked up as well

Gonna have to issue a firm STAND DOWN boys. I bought the MGS collection on PS5 on launch and the games run flawlessly. MGS1 is a straight port of the PS1 version, and 2 and 3 are the Bluepoint games at 60fps. I have played through all 3 games, did not experience anything wrong with them, they played better than ever with nearly zero load times. This is fake news for PS5 versions of the game. I can't speak for the Switch or Xbox versions. You can rest assured this is a very well done collection.

I have been thinking about the after life stats screen for YEARS. I'm glad I'm not alone.

Damn so if Chris has Covid I guess that means he’s missing the wedding? That sucks.

StewDog

Well I guess Chris isn't going to the wedding. Wasn't addressed at all but it seemed like the elephant in the room

Man I've had exactly the opposite experience with Spiderman 2 compared to Chris. Had one crash at the end of a combat challenge and that's it. Besides that, the game I played was possibly one of the most polished gaming experiences of any game I've ever played. (Note: I played only in Performance Mode and 120hz mode. I never played only on quality mode)

Surprised to hear about the bugs people are experiencing with Spider-Man. I had one bug where Tombstone’s dialogue wasn’t coming through, but it was only for one or two lines. Other than that it’s been a solid ride.

I’m am on my way home on the PA turnpike typing this as I purposely held off on listening to the show until today. I have a round trip from Allentown to Wilkes Barre for work this morning and I needed something to listen to. I want to wish Colin and Micah the absolute best and I hope today is as wonderful as they hoped for. Many blessings to you both. What beautiful weather today turned out to be. I remember my wedding as if it were yesterday and it is still the best day of my life. I have no doubt that they will feel the same. What a wonderful day. Take care 🙏

Are the bugs related to time played? It seems that longer play sessions start to bug out. Maybe that has something to do with why Chris saw some bugs and Colin didn’t.

No bugs for me about half way through 🤷

On ps5 roughly 90 percent of the releases have a fully playable build on disc. I am on the @doesitplay discord server(they also have a twitter page posting some results) where we buy and test disc builds of games and play them without patches. Only around 10 percent of ps5 disc games require a patch to play. I don’t even have home internet and I’m able to function on my ps5 with 0 issues. I use my phone hotspot to sync trophies. The site has tested about 240 physical releases for ps5. PS4, surprisingly enough is slightly worse percentage wise.

Colin's reimagined encounter with Miyamoto is probably the funniest thing I've heard in the past month. "That's fun, isn't it?". Lol!!

Dustin you keep mentioning Saturn can't be emulated but this hasn't been the case for many years. Saturn emulation has come a long way- hell, I've been emulating Saturn games near perfectly on series x of all things. I'd argue it's easier to emulate well than the N64 now.
