Update: SOLD OUT IN 10 MINUTES. Thank you for your support. <3

TLDR: Click here to buy!

Hello! It’s me, Colin. I hope you’re well.

As subtly announced on Sacred Symbols 267, we’re pleased to reveal the extremely limited physical version of Super Perils of Baking, available for PlayStation 4. You can buy your copy right now by clicking here. For the uninitiated, Super Perils of Baking is Lillymo Games’ (the indie studio I co-own) newest release. We launched our storybook 2D platformer on digital platforms in 2022, and it’s available right now on PS5, PS4, Switch, Xbox One, and PC if you’ve yet to check it out.

The thing is, we didn’t want to strand Super Perils in digital-only format, especially considering how many of you love your physical games, particularly when it comes to indies. So we did something kinda crazy, and certainly ambitious for a company of our size: We undertook the creation of our own special physical edition of the game, with an assist from our friends at Eastasiasoft.

Here’s the rub: We’re selling 500 copies of Super Perils of Baking in physical format, which makes this run one of the rarest releases in the history of PlayStation 4’s extensive physical games catalog dating back to 2013. These are completely official PS4 cases and discs, certified by Sony and rated by the ESRB, and handled with professionalism by Eastasiasoft. (In fact, we quietly got the games printed late last year, and they’ve been sitting in boxes in this nook in my kitchen ever since.) And while we at Lillymo have partnered with Eastasiasoft to do our physical editions in the past, they typically handled the entire affair for us, stem to stern, as was the case with Habroxia, Habroxia 2, and Twin Breaker. This time around, we wanted to try to cobble together a so-called Collector’s Edition for ourselves. Eastasiasoft was kind enough to sell us cased copies at gross, and Last Stand Media actually acts as co-publisher on the project (hence the nifty moon logo on the case). We did everything else. And by we, I mean Micah and Dustin.

Thus, here’s what you get when you buy Super Perils of Baking on PS4 in all its physical glory: The game itself, a couple of nifty postcards with official Super Perils artwork, a sticker sheet full of some of our favorite characters and enemies from the adventure, and a certificate of authenticity, hand-numbered by yours truly. (I even messed up three of them, which I went ahead and wrote a note on and signed.) Everything is cobbled together in a custom case that we designed to look like an SNES box, to celebrate Super Perils’ 16-bit roots. And we’re selling the entire shabang for the low, low price of $34.99 USD + shipping. (Shipping prices are standardized by region and will include mandatory insurance.)

There are some things you should know before you purchase your copy. The first and foremost is that the minimum print of physical PS4 games is 1,020 copies (yes, 1,020, that’s not a typo), and as you can see, we’re only selling half of them right now. There are a couple of reasons for this. The first and most acute is that we want to see what happens with this batch. How does it sell? What do people think of the end product? How was the purchasing, shipping, and receiving experience? Because we’re a small enterprise, we want experience and data first and foremost. The secondary reason we’re not selling them all is a little more aspirational, in that Barry and I kinda-sorta wanna try to do a Lillymo Anthology in the far-flung future, and the extra copies may be a part of that. Then again, they may just pop-up at our live shows, or we may sell the other 500 in a different special edition, or something else. I just thought it was important to be transparent that we aren’t selling half of the copies for the time being. (It’s also important to note that, though publishing a Switch physical edition is possible, Nintendo’s print minimum is 3,000 copies, which we felt far-outstripped our market penetration with this game. So that’s not an option for Super Perils, though maybe it will be for a couple of future titles…)

Another thing you should know is that -- with all due respect -- we’re not Limited Run Games. That means we’re not going to make you wait 45 years to get your product. The first batch of Super Perils’ physical edition will ship early in the coming week, and we anticipate that every copy will be in your homes no later than mid-September. By this time next week, some of you will have a copy in-hand, with everyone else not at all far behind. And please do keep in mind that we’ve already begun inserting games into their shipping boxes, so while we appreciate your support of our store in buying other merch, please understand that we cannot combine shipping costs for Super Perils orders. (In other words, if you buy a shirt or something at the same time, it will be shipped separately.)

Speaking of other merch, it’s because of your kindness and generosity that we’re running an in-house merch op that is the envy of a lot of our competitors (just like our Patreon presence; thanks for that, too), and if you think publishing our own physical game is a feat, you've seen nothing yet, because we have more plans to come. Micah is a complete natural at running the shop, getting things packaged and shipped, and dealing with any customer issues that arise, while Dustin has been a maestro at getting things designed, ordered, stocked, and replenished, with more new offerings in the works for the months ahead. By cutting out the middleman (and dedicating my garage and one of our extra bedrooms to the operation), we are selling higher quality gear than ever before, cheaper than ever, and shipping it fast, to the tune of hundreds of orders a month, all while controlling the customer experience and putting our panache on service. It’s pretty amazing what this little Last Stand engine can do, both in the digital world and the real world, too.

That’s all thanks to you, of course. You are the fuel that allows us to motor.

Thank you for your support, and have a great weekend. -Colin
