Starfield Goes Gold - It's Really Happening! | Defining Duke, Episode 137

It's time to start believing, folks. Starfield has gone gold following multiple delays and it looks like you can finally put that September 1st (or 6th!) release date "in ink!" Alongside going gold, the information is finally starting to pour in for the game. We have a deep timeline of 300 years worth of lore to mull over. For those less grimoire inclined, we have a brand new Q&A from Will Shen and Emil Pagliarulo that is chockful of new bits of information of the next Bethesda epic. In a week tailormade for the Dukes, we learned of the team who has been working on the TMNT: Last Ronin video game. It hails from Black Forest Games who has a spotty history. If that didn't leave us uncertain enough, THQ Nordic is the publisher. Will the hype win the day for the Dukes or are we full blown skeptics out the gate? Plus, a renewed debate on the Xbox Series S sparks up following some key features for Forza Motorsport being delayed, Assassin's Creed Mirage has an earlier release date, Project Suerte may be just around the corner, and much more in a jam packed episode of Defining Duke! Glad you got through the MRI, Cog.

I really hope the game is everything you two are hyping it up to be. Back in 2015 I over hyped a game for myself and it was catastrophe when it didn’t reach the levels I had created in my head. So listening to your last few weeks of content being flooded with this game, I imagine you have reached some pretty high levels of hype. Hoping for the best from the game! Let’s hope for greatness.

I'm going to resort to two comments as i have only just started watching this but i want to just offer a few words with regards to the medical intro. I completely feel the anxiety both you Cog, and you Matty, endure concerning MRIs. The cage alone caused me to panic so badly that my first session was cancelled. When it was rearranged they had no choice but to refrain from using it. The ear protection provided done little to really alleviate the discomfort from the sounds, but what nearly threw the entire proceedings into disarray was when they attempted to strap me in........and Cog you will understand where my thought process was then heading. To feel restrained in such a way has a very traumatic affect on me, which i know relates to a period from my younger days. Like with the cage, my MRIs now don't have said restrictions, but i do need to remain completely still to the best of my ability. I am fortunate that i have support within this department who understands the extremes of my mental health so going forward i hope for an easier time of it, even though i would much rather be back within the safety of my home. Thank you also Cog for the biggest laugh out loud with tears streaming from my eyes moment because your "What if i miss playing Starfield" method of thinking was legendary. For me my fight within is that i need to keep going so that i can be here for my wife and not leave her alone. Second to that though and gaming would be my secondary motivation. Love and respect to both you fellas. Stay safe and well. (And now back to the podcast.)

If a game not being as good as you want is catastrophic to you, that’s more a you problem than a game problem.

Stuck in traffic, thank Godd Howard for the Dukes

The complaints from devs about BG3 and Larian reads to me like fast food workers complaining that the 3 Michelin star restaurant down the street is too good. Literally zero sympathy for them.

Having finally watched the entire podcast, got to say Matty/Cog, never a dull moment. Entertaining, informative, and above all, so very real and natural. When i was in a position to upgrade my console,(Xbox by the way....has always been my gaming home,) Series S was always going to be the way forward for me. I only need the space for a few games as i don't jump between them, preferring to immerse into each game for a long period, between health breaks obviously. This current issue with parity, amongst other things, due to the size and capabilities of this smaller console (apologies but i'm not the most technically savvy,) doesn't really affect me just because of how i game and my personal expectancies. However, with regards to Baldur's Gate 3, my only thoughts are that i would be content with either Series X receiving the release and Series S getting it once the issue has been resolved. Why have all Xbox gamers got to lose out when they can see so many other people enjoying the game? The alternative, release it on both consoles despite the lack of the likes of split screen, if the quality is good enough that it won't ruin the experience. Again, it boils down to me, to allowing everyone to enjoy a game. Right now it feels like an exclusive against Xbox. Just one old man's opinion. And i have to say, damn you fellas!!! I have been actively avoiding hype for Starfield as i just don't see how i can fit this game into my daily schedule due to how i game and just how immersive i believe it will be. But the passion with which you both talk about it has finally ignited a fire within me which has let loose an excitement i was trying to ignore. Oh well, i guess i need to make some decisions. Looking forward to further discussions and thoughts as the month nears its end. Stay safe and well.

Sad reality re:COD World at War, and even the first Black Ops probably arent going to get touched just because of their aversion to Nazi imagery nowadays. Id take it even if they took out all the swastikas but they probably see it as too much of an overhaul

Another great episode of the show. I changed jobs about two years ago and now can’t listen to many podcasts. But every week this show is a must listen.
