Colin vs. The Political Compass -- Colin's Last Stand (Episode 2)

The Political Compass -- controversial as it may be -- is a solid way to better understand your ideological leanings. Today, Colin takes the test, explaining each of his answers along the way. (Take the test along with this video, or on your own!) The Political Compass: https://www.politicalcompass.org/test Note: There was an error made answering Question 50, hence its brevity compared to the rest of the answers. Looking like a straight up G in that suit.

Anonymous

I'm not gay but man, you in that suit makes me feel some way.

Paul Molina

Fellow CLS fans. I recommend taking the Political Compass test prior to watching the video to avoid all bias. Then compare your responses with Colin. Some issues you will agree; others you wont. It really is a lot of fun. Great post Colin!! - Paul

Anonymous

Interesting. I'm still going through it, but I already disagree with 'the enemy of my enemy is my friend' :-) While it may often be the case that differences can be put aside to fight a more dangerous enemy, this is not always the case. One example would be arming rebels to fight a common enemy, and then those rebels end up committing war crimes.

Anonymous

Great test, even if some of the questions were not greatly phrased, as you pointed out along the way. Great video overall, I like the format.

Anonymous

Solid episode, this is what I'm looking for Colin but maybe make it a bit shorter. I like the 20 to 30 min plan.

BettyAnn Moriarty

Oh god.... I'm stuck in the middle of something at work and cannot put my EarPods in to listen now! 😞 not happy about that but gives me something to look forward to- sounds fantastic!!! 😉👍🏻

Anonymous

Great video, enjoying the content.

Anonymous

Really enjoyed the combination of one longer, unscripted video and one tightly researched video. As someone who loved geeking out through the bibliography and your suggested reading, I'd like to see further expansion along these lines next.

Owen

Love the openness of answering this, and I like how you make it clear on each question that this is your opinion, and you expect people to disagree (and agree) with you. Like the difference between this and the third amendment video, just for a nice contrast in content. Also like that this one doesn't have the background music that the scripted one did. Think your voice carries itself, doesn't need background music while speaking.

Marc Boggio

Awesome episode! I liked the longer casual format; it was like a podcast and a nice contrast to the more produced history episode.

Jeremy Meyer

It felt Full Colin. Loved the inserts. Follow your balls. Go balls deep.

Really great video Colin. I think it was an excellent choice for your second video. Gives us viewers a chance to see where you land on a range of issues and compare with our own opinions. This is really a unique forum that you are creating so thanks! In some future show I would really love you to address an issue which I think may be the most important issue of our time but doesn't get nearly enough discussion. I think that free market capitalism is the best system out of all the alternatives. However, how can it survive as mechanisation, robotics and AI replace the vast vast majority of jobs? Effectively capital is crowding out labour such that to quote a famous article title 'The future doesn't need us'. The net result will be that to make money and run a business you will not need labour to any large extent. All the means of production and hence wealth will be held in very few hands resulting in some form of extreme corporatism. If nothing is done to address this, all democracy will end up being a sham and we end up in some third rate dystopian sci fi movie starring Matt Damon. Can free-market capitalism survive? What is the solution? Would love to hear your take. By the way on this subject, watch the excellent 'Humans need not apply' by CGPGrey on youtube.

Jordan Durrant

Fucking brilliant. Ep 1 was great as well. Love some traditional Colin. This is gonna work out just fine. Thanks for including your followers from England and overseas in your discussion.

Anonymous

This was a cool idea, thanks Colin. I ended up a little more on the left-libertarian than I thought I would. I definitely misunderstood some questions though. I took it prior to watching with your explanations.

Anonymous

i love this. long and casual&gt; keep it up bro

Anonymous

I loved this, thanks. I'm about where you are on the grid, but flipped left instead of right. <a href="http://i.imgur.com/AH2GMrn.png" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">http://i.imgur.com/AH2GMrn.png</a>

Anonymous

Great video. I prefer the more casual format. It lets your personality shine through more than the scripted/teleprompter video.

Anonymous

Yep really liked that also, felt like I was just chillin with you for a quick minute. Very good Colin, keep it up brother ✌

Anonymous

Great episode and quite enjoyed participating. This was my first time taking this test despite being interested in it prior to now (some of the questions I didn't understand until you explained them). I ended up with, Economic Left Right: 2.25 Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -4.97 Basically right below your own score. My views, for the most part, lined with yours, with a slight variety to how strongly I agreed or disagreed, the main one that stood out was the question of luck. I do feel that for the most part, luck is what you make it, but your childhood is mainly not up to you. Someone born into a stable middle-class family will go through totally different experiences and thusly become a different person than someone who had to grow up in a lower class family with a drug addict mom and an abusive dad for example. So luck would play a part in how well that person can do for the rest of their lives. Their credit score for one may be forever ruined by the debt they take on just to get by where somoene with a more stable life might have been able to build a decent score during their young adult years.

Anonymous

Great stuff! Gave me the opportunity to explore and challenge my views. Keep the casualness up Colin!

Anonymous

I have to disagree with you on people being born gay. I don't think that's accurate at all. I don't think you can be born gay, nor straight. When you are born you don't know what attraction is. You don't know what a girl, or a boy is essentially. I had a friend in high school who was straight, and only been with girls. Until one day he wanted to see what being gay was like. He was very open about it to me, he told me he loved girls, but wanted to explore more. Long story short he is now a gay man. So him being born gay doesn't make sense at all. I just can't believe when you are being born--you automatically know what sexuality is. That's my take on the matter, but to each his own.

Anonymous

I really enjoyed the more casual format of this video. I had never heard of this website, so it was a great experience delving deeper into your political affiliation, while also learning something about myself. I've always appreciated your opinion and personal views over the years I've followed your work. Giving your viewers ways to discover and expand their knowledge is a fantastic thing. This video was all in all really fun. I can't wait to see how CLS develops as it goes on. If this is the content in store, then I'll gladly continue to support this Patreon. Thank you Colin.

Anonymous

If he enjoys women but prefers men, that would make him bi-sexual.

Tristan

I like the 2 differing styles of the videos, no fusion needed in my opinion. As an Aussie that has lived in London the last 3 years I fully understand that the content is going to be US centric and wouldn't expect it any other way. Keep it up!

Anonymous

This was such an education, yet entertaining, video. I took the test and didn't fully understand the meaning or intention of every question, so this was a great view to see your interpretation. Great job, you have a fan for life in me.

Anonymous

Loved this Colin. As a history buff, I really enjoyed the 3rd amendment episode, but I think this more free form content is great also. Keep up the great work!

Anonymous

I preferred this format. I'd like to see you aim for the 30-minute length, but if I'm digging the content, I'll typically stick with it regardless of the runtime. Adding the images provided a bit of extra levity that I appreciated. I'm pickin' up what Unscripted Colin is puttin' down.

Anonymous

i really enjoyed this Colin! it was a great example of that one question about the intersection of information and entertainment, and how they don't have to be mutually exclusive. do you foresee keeping this format of one scripted and one non-scripted video each week?

Rick Rodriguez

Have greatly enjoyed both episodes now. But seeing you go through these questions, I can't help but think it will be great to see you go through a question/answer style podcast and/or get into doing some interviews In the future. Keep up the great work, looking forward to more.

Nick Griffiths

Really enjoyed this video - took the test before which helped enjoy it more. So to the the hard part - how can we get some interesting (and rational!) debates on areas we disagree. How about a video where you collect and go through some patreon responses ? I know that would be time consuming on your side but be an interesting way of getting the community together (not that it matters but 1.8, -1.2 :-) )

Josh in Tampa

Love that on the grid Lola, head of Vita Island secret police, is in the proper square denoting her far right, fascist dictatorial leanings. lol

Anonymous

That was good! Did it just before then watched along. It was a neat idea for an interactive video!

Dan Phillips

Another great video Colin. I love the more free form of this. I think some of your best work is when you just go off on a topic and show how passionate you are about these things. Your knowledge really shines thru. I've taken this test before and I'm not too far off from where you are. I'm sure if I took it again I might move a bit on a few questions after hearing you talk it out. Keep up the great work.

Josiah Lambert

Did the test as an exercise before watching the video: Libertarian: -5 Left: -4 i.e. mid-lower left quadrant Majority of responses were exactly the same, a minority were within one response, and small minority were further apart (all relating to Hammurabi, notions of deterrence and criminal justice), and only one was exactly opposite (death penalty). Totally agree on this sort of exercise to identify unexpected common understandings for policy. Thanks for the exercise!

Anonymous

I LOVED this video. I didn't realize that having different formats to your videos was your intention from the outset and I think it's a great idea! I was Libertarian Left, right in the middle of that green square with Gandhi. I did the test before watching the episode and I think that was the best way to go. As I was watching, I found myself swayed by some of your arguments, which I think is okay and any person with an open mind to other opinions would find that as well. I think this video was a great way to start the conversation. 👌🏻

Anonymous

Also, the pic of Larry David. 😂

Stephen J Seidler

Very mind-blowing answer to the "savage vs. civilized" question. I agreed with the premise of the question but, as Colin pointed out, it's based on an assumption many of us in western culture make about what constitutes civility vs. savagery. I suspect many will read this question as I did; as a commentary on how we view non-western cultures in contemporary context, with a current emphasis on Muslim societies. What Colin pointed out is that "savagery" is always about how a society behaves, regardless of whether that society is widely considered, or considers itself, "civilized". This debunks the myths of "manifest destiny", and example of which would be the belief that Africans, being "obviously" less civilized than Europeans, mostly benefitted from compulsory slavery because it brought them to "providence". It didn't change my answer, but it did force me to examine the underlying premise of the questions more carefully.

Anonymous

Great video. Enjoyed the content but please don't move away from the other format completely. I enjoy that just as much and find it to be unique on youtube. Hopefully you can figure out the audio and lighting stuff in due course!

Stigma

One of the things I miss most about you leaving KF is your rants or ramblings. Just listening to you talk about things is intriguing. Maybe you'll do a podcast again someday in the future! This definitely hit the spot. Nice job!

Anonymous

Genuinely believe that this format is the best for me. Maybe it was just the first topic that didn't grab me as much, but still can't wait for next week's episodes!

Anonymous

Really good video, I like the relaxed approach, you speak really well without a script.

Anonymous

I cant wait to take this test with my fiance and not only know where we stand, but also why we think the way we do. In addition to that, I feel good having something I can throw on and just listen to as audio while I'm at work that's intellectually nutritious and generally civic in nature. That being said I hope at some point down the road we get more games related content from Colin(obviously not via Last Stand).

Anonymous

I've watched the video twice and will probably watch it a third time. Not only to give you the views, but also to extract as much information as I can. I've done this with first video as well. You provide such interesting insight into everything political.

Anonymous

I fell into the libertarian left but what I found very interesting is that I interpreted many of these questions differently. I'm really enjoying the content though.

Anonymous

I LOVE THE FREE FORM!!!! I really enjoyed Episode 1 of CTS but I must say that your on your game when you can just talk with us!! Love what your doing my man, love your views!! Keep'em coming!!

Anonymous

I'm confused... is Lola a fascist?

Anonymous

The only thing I'm not a fan of at this point is the music which comes across as a dated made-for-television movie theme to me. Every time I hear it, I cringe a little. No disrespect intended to the artist. I like the mix of scripted material with the conversational that is more in line with how we're accustomed to hearing you speak to us.

Anonymous

Great episode. Loved the laid back feel and hearing your insight on these questions.

Joey Andrzejczyk

Great episode Colin!! #istandwithcolin

Phil Crone

Well done sir! Great political introduction. My own results... Econ L/R: 2.13 Social Lib/Auth: -5.28 Libertarian Right

Cory Fowler

Great video. I think you work well both off the cuff and on script.

BruceWayneBrady

This is fascinating. I like the 2 different video styles, but I really like that you found something in this that's interactive and has many talking points. I'm taking this test as I watch the video, and I didn't know this test existed. It's also fascinating to hear you discuss each point in detail. CLS is already the video series that I'd always hoped you would do. My results: Economic Left/Right: -2.5 Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -3.44

Anonymous

Great episode Collin! Really enjoyed the different format of this one. Felt much more natural, and even though unscripted, you delivered your thoughts very clearly. Definately having me thinking about a couple things in a different way now Keep up the great content!

R Bamb

Constructive criticism: seriously, great episode. I spoke on the last episode saying it was maybe too dry with its facts. This was a much improved delivery, and with almost as much historical fact thrown in the mix. The editing was great, and even very humorous at times. It had a personal, conversational approach, good stuff. Great job, man!

BruceWayneBrady

Honestly - how many other people looked up "Don't Give Up The Inlet?" Even your wardrobe is inspiring me to learn!

Anonymous

Loved this episode Colin for its format and topic. Thanks

Anonymous

His best friend provided the original song and Colin had it changed to his liking so I doubt he's going to change it anytime soon. I personally don't mind it but I get where you're coming from.

Hose A Contra Razz

Great episode, I know your moving soon but to minimize eco look into this <a href="http://www.auralex.com/product/propanel-prokits/" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">http://www.auralex.com/product/propanel-prokits/</a> I used it in my editing room and band room eliminate eco and absorbs sounds perfect, they also make the room look professional and warm they cost about $400 not a bad investment.

Anonymous

I enjoyed both styles equally. I like the smoothness of the scripted but also liked the naturally more personal feel of non scripted. I can't believe that last video was 40 minutes because it went by so fast. The only criticism I could even think to give is that the exiting music is really loud compared to the rest of the audio. Keep up the amazing work!

Anonymous

This video was great, love the way it was edited and put together

Eric Wilson

Hey Colin! This is way better than the traditional scripted reading off the teleprompter nonsense which is very old hat and off-putting. I've always liked when you would speak about a subject on A Conversation with Colin, it was more organic and more personable than the previous video and the Colin was Right series. If you were a teacher, would you be more personally engaged with your students or would you just rattle off info from your desk like a news anchor? I'm not saying that in the other video you were not as engaged or as interested but there is a difference in terms how you come off and one is better than the other. It's not my place to tell you how you want to do your business. It is your choice ultimately but this kind of vibe is more appealing and normal. You're the best history teacher i've have thus far. Keep fuckin that chicken. Eric

Justis Salazar

Episode 2 was awesome! Really enjoyed playing along and getting your opinion on a wide variety of issues along the way.

LastStandMedia

Thanks! I'll do other tests in the future. There are way deeper ones, but they will also take way longer to do.

LastStandMedia

I wouldn't have been able to do the video in less time. Indeed, I felt like it could have been longer! That said, I didn't want to split it into two, especially because I'm doing a two-part episode of the "other" type of show coming up.

LastStandMedia

Thank you! The next episode will be of the other variety, but political... Lots and lots of sources in that one for you to jump into.

LastStandMedia

The music is there, actually, it's just super low. Like -40db from the core audio. It does a nice job of masking some (though not all) of the audio's imperfections.

LastStandMedia

Hey Alex, Thank you for the kind words. I've been mulling over that overarching issue for some time. I Tweeted out the other day, in a brief conversation with Jared Petty, that I think we're standing on the precipice of the single biggest and most significant inflection point in human history. It's worth delving into, and I'd like to, when there is time. Because it's an issue that deserves a whole lot of attention.

LastStandMedia

I will always do my best to include my foreign friends. I want this channel to be a useful tool for all, ultimately. And, yes, I will get to covering your country. Brexit is high on my list of topics. &lt;3

LastStandMedia

You will get one of these looser types of videos once a week, on average, so hopefully folks will find something to like with both.

LastStandMedia

I will be doing the other type of video, still, but I will keep "Casual Colin" going as well. =)

Caleb Greer

I liked the interactivity of the episode, but I like the format of the history videos as well. I believe they each serve different purposes.

Anonymous

Great episode Colin!! I love both formats. Keep it up man.

LastStandMedia

That's the idea. Some weeks, maybe there will be two of one style or the other, but generally, I'd like to do both. I think people will continue to dig the scripted style more when there are things they want to hear about more, too. Just like with Colin Was Right.

LastStandMedia

Well, if you're at the $10+/month level on Patreon, you can partake in the monthly video Q&amp;A I'll record. So there's that. I'm not really striving to do interviews here, but there will be exceptions to the rule there, too.

LastStandMedia

I'm actually planning a follow-up to this video in particular, since people pointed out some inconsistencies or contradictions that I'd like to discuss. It will be fun! But I don't want to necessarily make a video based on another video too often, because that will be contingent on people having watched one to really get the other. And I don't want to assume I command anyone's time to that degree.

LastStandMedia

Yeah, I want to do both types of videos! It's good for my sanity, and it's good for the variety of content all of you out there get to watch. Thanks for watching!

BettyAnn Moriarty

Wow! Great work - while being both educational and entertaining -which is exactly what I needed! My chart pinpointed 'just' left of yours. Keep 'em coming! Can't wait for more. ❤️

LastStandMedia

I'm glad you dug that, simply because I think it's not all that nuanced if folks merely take the time to think it through. The victors write history, right? Of course you're going to always portray your enemy as the "savage" entity. And sometimes, that's probably true. But certainly not always. Without the Europeans' actions centuries ago, we wouldn't be here. I'm not here crying crocodile tears or anything. But what was done to Native peoples is nonetheless disgusting, even if they were often fighting among themselves, too. Who hasn't been fighting among themselves in the last 10,000 years? So, it's all about perspective, that's all. I'm not saying the Aztec were good people. They sacrificed innocent people, held slaves, remained in perpetual warfare with remaining peoples, et cetera. But they were all but wiped out by a few hundred people. It's worth keeping that in mind.

LastStandMedia

I'd love to get a podcast into the mix one day. I gotta just put one foot in front of the other for now.

LastStandMedia

On Monday, another scripted one will go up. Give this one a chance; I'll be interested to see if it's simply the subject matter.

LastStandMedia

I may return to games in some way, at some time in the future, but that won't be here. (Though I may do a gaming one every blue moon if the subject matter, specifically, calls for it, e.g. the upcoming Call of Duty game that's reportedly set back in World War II.)

Bryan Finck

Really enjoying this video so far, my favorite parts of your previous endeavour were when you would go off the cuff and riff on any topic, but particularly the political/history stuff. This is that same stuff writ large, and I think it is where your greatest strengths lie. Both formats are immensely enjoyable, keep up the great work!

LastStandMedia

I'm so glad to hear it! I'll endeavor to supply folks with both types of videos moving forward.

LastStandMedia

She was in the lore we built around PS I Love You XOXO back in the day, hence her placement. =)

LastStandMedia

Thank you! I'll be interested to see what you (and others) think of Monday's scripted episode. It's far more political and less historical, and I think that may catch some more people in a positive light.

LastStandMedia

It's a wildly obscure Long Island thing based on an equally obscure historical thing. =D

LastStandMedia

Thank you! I have much to investigate once I move, 'cause I wasn't pleased with the sound.

LastStandMedia

Thank you, Eric! I'll be doing both video styles moving forward, but I will continue to try to make the other type of video better and better. Hopefully, the product will convince you to come around!

Anonymous

Colin, the only thing I got out of this video after thorough explanations is - you're racist.

Anonymous

Another great video Colin! I have to say I like both formats. I think the more structured one works great for the historical discussions and the off-the-cuff works great for political commentary type things. My only real feedback is this video was very long, and that's not bad, but it was harder to carve out the time to dive in and digest it all. I know we're all different so I'm sure lots of people have the exact opposite opinion =) Either way I'm going to watch no matter what, so keep doing what you're doing!

Anonymous

don't forget he is sexist as well xD. Ah, peace and quiet....

Joseph Ady

I am also from Long Island and what makes me most proud of it are the pizza, bagels and chinese food... hands down. The deli's are also great.

Anonymous

At first, I was not thrilled with the first format. However, after it was explained that it was only how you wanted to do a certain type video, it made me go back and give it a 2nd listen. I enjoy the fact that some videos will be purely educational and then some videos will be more relaxed and discussional! Keep up the good work! I'm incredibly glad to be supporting someone that I consider an inspiration!

Seth Eden

Loved the video and the juxtaposition to the historical video and it provides a nice balance. The video and audio obviously could be improved but I agree with you in that the content is most important and I think the content was spot on. Appreciate your openness of your answers and your defense of them and while I may not agree with all of them I can respect the reasoning and hey we can disagree! Crazy thought!

Anonymous

This was an awesome episode and an incredibly smart topic as the 2nd video. It really lets the viewers know where you stand on issues going forward. Sure, I may disagree with a few things here and there but, a different point of view is exactly why I'm here. I'm more surprised by how much we agree on a things. Definitely solidifies you as my favorite political voice and source of knowledge. Can't wait for what's next!!

Josh Squires

I agree with most of the earlier comments. The combination of the scripted historical episodes and conversational political videos creates a good balance.

Nic Lucero

Colin, fucking awesome so far. Love the balance between the two vid. Unfortunately ive got no criticism so far (i know how important that can be) but keep it up man.

Anonymous

Colin, I know you are only doing two videos per week but we would love a video on tonight's events! I'd love to know your stance and what you think this means for the geopolitical chess game of the world!

Eric Iverson

I loved this episode. I love that you are more conversational and less rigid than the first episode. I will also say, I loved the lighting here. Weird, I know. Way more natural... maybe throw a reflector on your left to bounce some of that sunlight back to remove the shadow on you and you have a very nice natural light box there :) I'd also like to say, I appreciate that you are helping people discover their own thoughts and opinions and this was a great starting point to have those who aren't fully aware of where they fall on the spectrum learn a bit about themselves. Well done and I hope you keep with your stated goal of having everyone learn and grow with you. BTW... I am -2.38 economic (left) and -5.64 social (libertarian). :D

Anonymous

Enjoyed this video and the time flew by. Can't say I like this test as much as some others such as isidewith, the questions are just vague and sometimes poorly worded. I think it puts me generally in the area that reflects my views Economic Left/Right: 3.25 Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -4.05

Anonymous

Just found that if you want to save your political compass test, you can click the 'get certificate link' . It will create a pdf with your political compass position, as well those of well known political figures. <a href="https://www.politicalcompass.org/certificate?ec=-3.25&amp;soc=-6.31" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">https://www.politicalcompass.org/certificate?ec=-3.25&amp;soc=-6.31</a> I'm sandwiched between Bernie Sanders and Nelson Mandela :-)

Timothy Monnig

I enjoyed the alternate format. It pleases me to know that your "off-the-cuff" exercises will be a little less strenuous for you to produce (edit notwithstanding; as a former editor it always takes longer than you think it should). Your productivity is admirable, but I hope it is sustainable without taking over your life (it's early in the project, I realize, and balance will come). That said, I thought it was a great and informative piece of content, and a brilliant stroke to dissect your political anatomy in the service of a more informed discourse with your community. I'm curious about the deeper political compass that you hinted at, since, while I found this one accurate, but a bit broad and uneven (multiple questions about sexuality and religion, but only one or two for similar zeitgeist issues). Nonetheless, I'm glad to know about it now; both my wife and myself did the test, and we plan to share it with others. It was fun to compare our scores with other elected officials past and present. I, like you, am a centrist, but I mirror you on the left side of the spectrum (I'm a bit harder on corporations, but I find your perspective fair). Left/Right: -2.13 Libertarian: - 3.95.

Anonymous

Great video! I enjoyed the humor accentuated by the editing. As far as the political compass, I knew we agreed on many things, but it was interesting to find out about our differences and to hear you explain your logic for your positions. I am fairly moderate, like you, and also place in the libertarian capitalist field. I agreed with the majority of your responses, but I had dissenting opinions on a few topics like education. It would have been strange if we agreed on everything. I hope to see more content like this!

Anonymous

I love how clear and vibrant the image is. Good camera choice and use of it. I I like the somewhat frequent use of images that relate to what you are speaking about. The audio is a bit messed up. It cuts between channels

Anonymous

Working in the Middle East with a terrible connection I could not open the political compass page. I decided to watch the video anyway; luckily all of my answers except one matched Colin's and that one was just a "agree/strongly agree" difference. Great episode, although the wording on some of the questions on the test were a bit vague, having everyone take the test and create a more clear picture of where people are on the spectrum is a nice way to have people relate their similarities to each other, vs arguing about differences. Also, shout out to Basil Hayden's.

Anonymous

I really like the format of this version compared to the scripted version from the first episode. I felt like in the episode I was able to hang out with you and be in the room with you answering these questions( Be part of the conversion). I would love your input on Trumps actions on Syria with his order of 59 missiles being launched on bases that deployed the chemical attacks.

Hi Colin, quick note - I'm a videographer &amp; photographer based in London. You probably have plenty of people to help you right where you are, but if you need video/production related help or tips, I'm happy to provide some... Keep at it mate!

Aaron Myers

Great video, I actually changed my mind on a few questions after hearing you explain your answers, made me look at things from a different angle.

The card for the H4N just needs to be put in a PC and reformatted and blank.

Loved this video. Maybe it's just because I'm not too into history but I enjoyed this one way more than the first. I appreciated how this one was more loose and Colin seems in his element more when it's off the cuff and not scripted.

Honestly don't think I can say I enjoyed one more than the other. I like the different style and I'd encourage you to keep both formats. I think it will keep it fresh and entertaining

I get a little frustrated with these tests. I find myself thinking about the questions maybe a bit too deeply and being confused by their meaning. It doesn't help that I'm not well versed in economics among other things, but that's why i'm here. To learn. Great video!

I loved watching this video. So far I'm enjoying the mix of polished, scripted video essays with more personal and authentic off-the-cuff discussions like this one. Keep up the great work. Thank you for clearly explaining your responses and the reasons for them. You're really doing good in the world. I can't wait to see what you have for us next week!

On another note, please create some kind of content covering the historical significance of the recent U.S. attack on a Syrian military base. How have similar events in the past played out? Will this lead to another directionless and costly war, and possibly even another recession? I know a lot of people are very anxious about this seemingly reckless behavior, and you are already a trusted and ethical source of information and context that I think might help us all to get a clearer understanding of what is happening here. Thank you.

Loved it. Long video, but it flew by to me. I like long content too. I think something personal and engaging like this is gonna be standout. Keep up the good work. I like the history episode too but felt that I needed more info/focus on your take on that topic. Like when you first heard about it, how your view changed, and so on.

That was great! I enjoyed it and will probably watch it again.

Can you do a video on carbon tax?

Chad Lewis

the two different formats are both perfect for what you used them for. i loved feeling like i was getting a history lesson and also really appreciated the off the cuff cheekiness of taking a test with you. very very fin stuff worth every penny. - chad

Loved both videos so far, it was great hearing your thoughts on the questions and how you arrived at your answers (also learned a lot from the first - as a UK citizen I've only really heard about the first, second and fifth). -Roy (somewhere in left-libertarian territory)

Loved the video and the format. Surprised at your reasoning for abortion as you specify that there is no debate that the cells will grow into a baby. Seems like a lack of personal responsibility to say that a hypothetical 16 year old will "ruin their life" if they had the child. If I get a credit card and recklessly use it to buy a bunch of things I can't very well go and kill the bank owners because the debt is ruining my life. As an adopted child myself there are many options out there that don't involve killing the child. This is one of the great things about this movement and channel specifically is that it encourages differing ideas and points of view. I'm very happy to be a part of it. Keep up the good work!

Epic, epic, content! After all the years of listening to your predominately right/conservative viewpoints and assuming, as I'm sure much of the Video Game industry does, that we were quite far apart on our world views, it was eye opening to see we really aren't that far apart. Same vertical alignment, just slightly more left than you based on abortion and death penalty. I would venture to say the Game Industry pundits assuming they are diametrically opposed to you would also be shocked to know you share much more in common with their viewpoints than they expect. Disagree with Colin's stance on luck and I don't mean in a superstitious sense. Some people just happen to be on the negative side of the coin toss. To disagree is to ignore the existence of statistical outliers; to ignore the individual perception of the human experience. I don't believe that every single person's overall collection of experiences just averages out in a lifetime. Someone who has a lot of negative experiences which are entirely out of their control such as illness, accidents, redundancy, etc could certainly be considered unlucky. I'm not saying that people don't triumph over adversity, or even become stronger, but I think it's naive to believe that some people don't face more adversity than others.

I noticed The World is Flat and The Terror Dream on the bookshelf, great books. May I recommend to my fellow patrons and Colin, Thomas P.M. Barnett's The Pentagon's New Map to start with. Oh, and both videos were great. Keep up the great work!

Finally watched the video today and took the test. Ended up pretty much where I figured. Slightly to the Left (-2.5) and slightly Libertarian (-1.33). Always interesting to hear reasoning from others.

Love the balance of video styles and love the detailed explanation in this one! I always enjoy taking this test again. I usually get almost all the way at the bottom and slightly to the right. Although I've also gotten slightly to the left. Current score is -7.44 social libertarian and 3.5 economic right. Almost identically placed alongside good ol' Milton Friedman!

I absolutely love this and your latest video, you just letting loose on politics is brilliant. I think we are very similar people in many ways but with almost polar opposite viewpoints on many things at the same time, honestly my enjoyment of listening to you Colon is what has stopped me from becoming a left winger that refuses to listen to anyone. I am left wing however your approach to politics and ability to make an argument for the libertarian side has awoken me to limitation ideas and made me realise that conservatives can be socially progressive too! In short I was worried that I would just miss you talking games, but I'm starting to think you will actually re-light my flame for the love of history and politics too! (As someone who studied History &amp; Poltics at University but has lost much of my love for them thanks to current events) Keep it up man! Can't wait to see you on top of the world!

Simon Winstanley

Oh and I was way left (sorry Colin) -8.25 and libertarian (which isn't something I would have thought a few years ago) -6.77 So I guess I'm still a man of extremes :')

Your Political Compass Economic Left/Right: -0.63 Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -3.18 I'm sure it'll fluctuate as I think will probably answer questions different each time I get them.
