Hey All,

I hope you’re doing very well today! As I posted earlier, I recorded Episode 1 and Episode 3 of Colin’s Last Stand last night. I even did an assemble edit on the first episode, which I sent out to a few people for content feedback as I begin the proper edit tonight/tomorrow.

I’ve been going pretty much full steam ahead since the day I resigned from Kinda Funny, and I’m in need of some rest and relaxation (my mind feels like it’s been a little slow the last couple of days), so I may actually just lay low tonight, and then really bust ass tomorrow and through the weekend. I haven't slept all the way through the night in weeks. I basically get 4-5 hours, and then I'm effectively up. Stomach is in knots, and I'm nervous. Hopefully, it'll go away once the show rolls out. =D

If you’re curious, the art Dagan is making for the show is really cool. A brief intro, lower-thirds, background images, and the credit sequence all look up to snuff. Likewise, I just got the final song from Ramon, and it’s fantastic. Really excited for you guys to see the final product.

But enough of all that. Let’s get into the news. -Colin

Michael Flynn Offers to Testify in Exchange For Testimony: https://www.wsj.com/articles/mike-flynn-offers-to-testify-in-exchange-for-immunity-1490912959

My Take: This just broke as I was writing this News Burst. All we know right now is that Flynn has offered testimony to the FBI in exchange for immunity.

I’m not one for hyperbole, but there’s no other way to put it: This could be a massive bombshell. The smoking gun. It could also be nothing. But why would Flynn offer testimony up in exchange for criminal immunity if the FBI wasn’t already getting close to the story? Innocent people don’t do anything for immunity. They don't offer testimony if nothing happened. He's trying to lessen his own criminal burden and complicity, or so it appears.

The only question now is… how far up the ladder does this go?

We officially have a story, folks.

Democrats Start Getting on Board the Gorsuch Train: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/entry/joe-manchin-neil-gorsuch_us_58dd68a0e4b08194e3b88089?u3v&

My Take: I think Gorsuch is getting through, and I think it’s a bad political idea for the Democrats to die on this hill, especially because Trump is floundering in so many other areas. Having a battle here is going to take attention off of all of the ways Trump isn’t succeeding; it’s just not worth the political risk.

With Manchin and Heitkamp -- both moderate Democrats from deeply red states -- on board, that brings the number to 54. The Republicans have already said they will dismantle the filibuster rules if they don’t get to 60, but I think they’ll get there. They just need six more votes.

Neil Gorsuch is qualified, well-respected, well-regarded, and moderate. Let’s get him on the bench so we can all move on with our lives.

Trump vs. Freedom Caucus: http://thehill.com/homenews/administration/326623-trump-calls-out-freedom-caucus-leaders

My Take: Donald Trump is at all times both a shrewd political maneuverer and a complete political lightweight. He’s an enigma, and this time around, with this particular decision, he’s much more lightweight than shrewd.

What this basically comes down to is that Trump is now attacking the House Freedom Caucus, the heavily conservative House group of perhaps 40 members that killed the Trumpcare bill. They are as conservative as it gets, and, for the most part, didn’t think the bill went far enough.

Nunes More-Than-Safe in Home District: http://www.politico.com/story/2017/03/devin-nunes-russia-california-236666

My Take: A month ago, no one was talking about Devin Nunes. Today, lots of people are talking about Devin Nunes. I won’t reiterate all of the shit going on surrounding him, Trump, and the House Intelligence Committee, because that’s not the point of this story, really. Instead, what’s interesting here is that he’s still well-liked back in his Central California district.

An interesting read that further signifies the complete detachment from reality Washington D.C. suffers, on both ends of the political spectrum. You’d think Nunes was finished if all you did was listen to MSNBC; seems Nunes will easily win reelection in 2018 where it actually matters, though.

Ann Coulter Headed to Berkeley: http://sanfrancisco.cbslocal.com/2017/03/29/planned-ann-coulter-visit-to-uc-berkeley-has-organizers-fearing-another-backlash/

My Take: Looks like “firebrand” Ann Coulter is headed to Berkeley, invited by a college group there, and there’s fear -- or perhaps even an expectation -- that what happened to/with Milo will happen to her, too. Should be an interesting, and no doubt inflammatory speech.

It’s possible, if not likely, that another scene will play out there, which wouldn’t be surprising, since Berkeley has gone completely through the looking glass. I personally find Coulter as a provocative -- but somewhat reasonable and entirely intelligent -- woman, which contrasts her with Milo, who was a provocateur first and foremost. It will just feed the anti-progressive narrative if there’s another riot, and I hope the far left knows that they’re only hurting themselves and their cause if they react predictably.

EU Leader Threatens US With EU-Like Breakup: http://www.express.co.uk/news/politics/785813/European-Union-EU-boss-threatens-break-up-US-retaliation-Trump-Brexit-support

My Take: LOL.

See you tomorrow! -Colin

I hope you are able to get some much needed R&R. You've been right out straight for sure!

Any word on episode 2? Looking forward to the political episodes! Seems like they are taking a back seat to the history based installments? Can't wait.

Drew Packard

You're awesome Colin, keep it up!

Drew Packard

He wants to comment on current events, so he would prefer to wait until the last minute

Really enjoying getting to see your take on the daily news, Colin. Thanks for doing it. With that said, you really should stop referring to Gorsuch as a moderate. He aligns with the far right of the Court. He is very qualified and respected, but he's much more a Scalia than a Kennedy. Good luck with the edits on the first batch of CLS!

Alex Perkins

Get some rest! I'm stoked for April 3rd!

Anonymous

Any thoughts on Farkas seemingly admitting illegal surveillance against the trump transition team?

Anonymous

Leeeeeet's get riiiiiiight into the news

As a part of the democratic base I don't see the bad side to blocking the vote on goursich. Yes it would hurt the democrats in red states and they should vote the way their constituents demand. Though in politically blue states those constituents want to obstruct the GOP just as they obstructed the Obama administration.

Jordan

Was anybody actually able to read that WSJ post? I signed in, but it seems like they want me to pay to read it. Am I doing it wrong?

John Barton

That last article about the EU leader made my day. Almost brought me to tears making me laugh so hard. Guy is a nut job and definitely needs to resign lol.

Anonymous

Ann Coulter getting roasted was one of the funniest things I've ever seen

Phil Crone

Couldn't access the WSJ article either. This one from The Hill has some details... http://thehill.com/blogs/blog-briefing-room/news/326639-flynn-offers-to-testify-on-russia-ties-in-exchange-for-immunity Flynn's lawyer is spinning it that it's more protocol than anything else, but wow what a story. I tend to agree that guilty people don't ask for immunity, but there's a fair question of how much influence Russia could have had.

Anonymous

Until something happens with Flynn, Russia, et. al. I think it's not worth spending too much time thinking about. These things could take years to develop and meanwhile Democrats have much bigger issues to worry about. If Trump or Pence (or someone high up) is dirty the FBI will get there.

Anonymous

Agree with this wholeheartedly. He's pretty conservative though more than qualified. I disagree with Gorsuch ideologically, but that doesn't make him a bad person and it certainly doesn't make him unqualified.

Anonymous

Well, there may be a lot to talk about in the next few weeks if Flynn turns out to have some damning testimony.

Nicholas

Well I mean in general everyone hates congress but loves their congressman, but I do feel like Nunes is going down a dangerous path. With more details coming out from the Washington Post about how he received information/collaborated with the White House, and trying to state the otherwise. Look forward to what you think of this article/continuing story and what your take is as more info comes out. Thanks for these News roundups and look forward for your video series in April!

So excited to see the first episode Colin! I'm sure it's going to be great. I hope you get the rest you need. So my question is, what happens if Trump's ties to Russia turn out to be the worst case scenario? It would be bigger than Watergate. What if most, if not all, of his administration were in the middle of it? Would impeachment get us Pence or would we have to wipe the slate clean and get Ryan as our President until 2020. I'm not trying to be a doomsayer, I'm genuinely curious. Thanks in advance!

Eric Iverson

Michael Flynn offering to testify in exchange for immunity is extremely interesting. Curious to see how this plays out.

GrisWold Diablo

So the GOP blocked Obama from having a serious nomination for judge. I guess now the Democrats are growing some balls and are doing the same until there's a compromised. Feels like democracy to me.

Misty

I and from the town Devin Nunes is from and I can vouch, he is loved here. He will definitely be re-elected. Without a doubt.

Tristan

It is going to be interesting to see how the Brexit negotiation form . Especially if Juncker is saying that due to "supporting comments"... Imagine what he would want from a country that actually voted for it!

Anonymous

Really interested to see what will come of the whole Flynn situation.

R Bamb

Hard to say, I just hope it gets over as quickly as possible. It could be embarrassing as hell, but if we have to yank the President, so be it. There's also the very real possibly that there's a huge behind the scenes agenda, with the POTUS having more enemies than friends, im sure. This is also coming from a man who has also lied under oath. Like I daid, whatever the outcome, I just hope it comes sooner than later.

Anonymous

I was telling my wife that Trump is so out there, I could see him asking Flynn to ask for immunity basically to tell the FBI nothing happened. We'll have to wait to see what happens.

Anonymous

The Flynn situation is scary man. I have been laughing at these accusations and sharing memes about it, but now it seems more real than ever. No matter how crazy something seems at times, I guess anything is possible in politics. Yikes!

Mike Smith

It's incorrect to say that innocent people don't offer testimony for immunity. All this means is that Flynn has a good lawyer.

Brent Lindquist

It should be very interesting to see where the Flynn stuff goes. I just want to know, man!

David Kramme

Hey Colin, joined Twitter just to follow you lol, curious if you listen to any of the Crooked media podcasts? They definitely have a left wing slant but are also intelligent and they having worked in Washington gives then some interesting insight. You've pushed me to seek out viewpoints that challenge my views and I'm a better informed person for it, just curious.

Mike Smith

Here is a portion of a statement made by Flynn's lawyer: "Notwithstanding his life of national service, the media are awash with unfounded allegations, outrageous claims of treason, and vicious innuendo directed against him. He is now the target of unsubstantiated public demands by Members of Congress and other political critics that he be criminally investigated. No reasonable person, who has the benefit of advice from counsel, would submit to questioning in such a highly politicized, witch hunt environment without assurances against unfair prosecution." This is sound legal advice. Nothing should be read into this request for immunity.

Nice reads. As for Ann Coulter you are giving the kids of Berkely waaaay to much credit that they know a riot “will just feed the anti-progressive narrative”. They will riot because 70% of the kids think it's "cool" and may get the lucky chance to punch someone in the face or be on TV. I'm a Dem in Boston but don’t feel comfortable in the democratic party anymore. My views are too moderate now and kinda feel like my verbal lynching will come any day.

Anonymous

Pod Save America! They're doing a good job there, too.

Ryan Berry

Can't read the WSJ article without a subscription :(

All of their podcasts are really informative and entertaining. I agree with much of their politics, but they definitely present their message in a more honest and genuine way than many others on the left. It's really a fantastic few hours of content every week. I'm especially thankful for them with PSILY now out of my life

jucker = joker if he thinks Texas would give anything he says the time of day, let's not forget Texas has more privately owned firearms than germany has at all...

I ran into the same issue, but I also found this article that I'm assuming gives the same information: https://www.nytimes.com/2017/03/30/us/politics/michael-flynn-congress-immunity-russia.html

Jeremy Meyer

Yeah the obama boys are pretty great, it's cool to get the pov from young speechwriters who have been in the trenches since '04. It's a fun cast, especially when Lovett's on a rant.

Jeremy Meyer

EU will get interesting when germany gets in bed with russia.

James Galos

Biden pulled the move originally if I'm recalling correctly. He will get through with little push back in the end.

Ryan Berry

Thank you sir! I think I came by similar articles; I was posting more for the feedback.

You can usually read WSJ articles by searching google using the title :)

Codename Trigger Thumb

I don't buy into anything involving Russia from the fake news. Clearly, this is all some sort of deep, disturbing denial the Democrats are going through. Here is the real story, Hilary Clinton lost because she was a very bad candidate. No need to dig any deeper than that.
