Good day gents. Apologies if you've already answered this, but will you two be playing Starfield on PC or Xbox and why?

Hey dukes With the announcement of Neptunia Sisters vs Sisters being announced to be coming to Xbox in 2024 which is Idea Factory Internationals first release on Xbox. A year later after its original release on PlayStation and steam and even getting a physical edition for North America and Europe is kinda crazy. Being a niche jrpg series and idea factory’s last game on Xbox consoles was the 360 in 2007, it seems Phil trips to Japan are really showing some results after all this time. What other jrpg series would you guys like to see come to Xbox next? The legend of hero’s series maybe? Have a “you’ve been told to stay indoors at night because a person is going around chopping homeless people’s hands off with a sword” type of day

We’ve talked about it before but I’m curious about people who have an Xbox and NOT GamePass? Let’s assume ABK happens and price remains same or similar - then for sure why would you possibly not have it right? A couple game a year and you are at break even let alone the rest. Now - if they just add Midnight Suns :) :) love the show :) - IowaBirdman

Hey Matty and Cog, I’m wondering what your thoughts are about Microsoft potentially having the Xbox console itself take a backseat to the rest of their gaming initiative. It’s quite obvious that Microsoft is perfectly fine to have people play their games where ever the consumer so chooses, and I wonder if we’ll see Microsoft bill the console as less of a centerpiece of their ecosystem, but more as one component of it. With Microsoft really wanting to get into mobile, I think we’ll see them shift away from the traditional “console first (or only)” approach that Sony has had, and continues to have. I don’t think they’ll stop manufacturing consoles, however, if according to Phil, they don’t see any possible way to beat Sony in the console war, then where does that put Xbox as a console? Thanks for your time.

Hey Dukes! I was watching the newest episode of Constellation where they asked “why Xbox?” And it got me thinking. I consider myself a video game fan, I happen to have an Xbox because right now it is the best economic sense for me as I prepare to sell my home and move into a school bus… but that’s a whole other story. I like Sony, I like Xbox, I like Nintendo, and I love different aspects of all of these companies. For me the reason I want the ABK to go through is because I feel that Sony has become really good at making only a couple types of games, and I feel that the ABK deal pushes Sony to compete more, and when mega corporations fight, we win. I feel like that is a side that people who are ingrained with Sony don’t see that, but it’s clear as day Game Pass is a great example of that. If Xbox didn’t make a huge push in Game Pass do you honestly think PlayStation+ would have evolved into a better deal? I don’t think so personally. So for me, “why Xbox?” Is answered simply with one word, competition. Thanks for your time and have a “you think that Xbox did a good job in court, but you just hopped on twitter for a few minutes and are now doubting your thoughts” kinda day.

Hey Dukes! Matty, are you planning on buying the ROG Ally? I'm jumping on the train and purchasing one later this week. I've always wanted a device that could play my Xbox games natively and just the idea of being able to continue my Starfield save on the go seems like a dream. Lastly, Cog do you have any basic tips/advice for someone who just bought theirs? Have a great weekend and thanks for all the great content!

Hey, gentlemen. Does it feel like we're living in a world where a new Halo title exists? I know that Infinite is there, it's available to play at any time, but it has failed to occupy a meaningful slice of the free-to-play, first-person shooter space. Frankly, it feels like it never happened. What does Infinite need to compete with the likes of Warzone 2.0 and Apex Legends? Thanks, and have a "milk went bad on the final serving of Apple Jacks in the box" kind of day

Greetings, long dong Dukes. Fellas I'm kinda puzzled by your faith in Ninja Theory. This is not a fanboy thing; if anything, I kinda hate Sony lately. $117M for Ninja doesn't sound like "a steal" to me as Matty said. I’m not saying it’s overpriced either, but I don't see how it's a steal. It's basically $100M less than Sony paid for Insomniac. Do you think the difference in value between those two studios is less than $100M (since you think Ninja should've cost more than $117M)? Hellblade was a really cool concept, but it wasn't a GREAT game IMO. I enjoyed it as an experience, but that's it. The only thing we've seen from them so far regarding HB2 is that they can do graphics and animations well. But those things weren't bad in the first game to begin with. It was the gameplay and mechanics that were seriously lacking, and thus far we have ZERO evidence that those things have been substantially improved. Unless y'all know something we don't. The comparisons to Naughty Dog baffle me. I'm not a giant ND fan like Colin, but I appreciate them (and TLOU2) enough to know that IF their only claim to fame was graphics and animations — which is where Ninja is currently — they would NOT be as prestigious as they are. ND is more than just that. TLOU2 gameplay was excellent. They know how to design satisfying gameplay and solid mechanics, and obviously they're second-to-none with storytelling. I just don't understand where you've seen ANY of that with Hellblade. I get that you're *hoping* it's gonna be a blockbuster -- I'm hoping that too. I would probably like it more than ND games if the gameplay and combat was as good as TLOU2. But I just don't understand what all this faith you have is based on. We have seen zero evidence to merit it. Maybe you're overhyping yourselves? Maybe you know something we don't? Or maybe I'm just an idiot? If you guys really pause to reflect on all the factual evidence we have about Ninja & HB2, do you truly believe that your faith in this game is objectively justified, or is it perhaps actually based more on what you HOPE will be true? Is this message long enough? Thanks Dukes!

Ben

Annnnd idk if the post got cut off cuz it’s too long, or if it just doesn’t show the entire thing on mobile when it’s too long. 🤷‍♂️

Good day Dukes, this question is more of a general gaming question but Matty, after watching your review on Trails of Reverie, I wanted to pose the question, which do you both recommend from your experiences to play as a new player in the jRPG space? So far, I've finished Persona 5 Royal (which I loved) and recently started FF 7 remake, but I don't really know where next to go after this with a lot of games feeling overwhelming?

Hello Mr.Matty & hopefully Messy Cog, I knew Starfield was going to be good when Mrs.Davis turned to me and said”You better buy that special edition.” But what I want to see the most is the rarely sighted Messy Cog. What is the official metacritic # Starfield needs to hit for Messy Cog to come out and play? 88? 89? or only 90+? Don’t worry me and Lil’ Timmy have been holding the line this whole time. Oohwhee!

Dick Justice

Greetings Dukes, What does success look like for Starfield? The game has been in development for so long that it has no doubt costing upwards of 300 mill to make. Normally a BGS game would have the sales to make it profitable but what is probably their most expensive project to date will be coming only on the same platforms Morrowind was on. With it being on gamepass the odds of it hitting the sales it needs to make back its money is doubtful. So in a case like this, and I imagine we'll see more in the future, what will it need to be considered successful? What sort of player count will they be shooting for? When will they finally enable console mods for oblivion and fallout 3? Have a, do you know where I got this username from?! Kind of day!

DarkRod99

Good day Dukes, Question: How do you prefer your RPG's turn based or action based? Personally, I prefer action based since I come from many years of playing turn-based games since Pokemon to Final Fantasy and I see the take (Action Based) as a interesting and fun method of gameplay. I still play turn-based games here and there, but I enjoy action-based more, I would love to hear your thoughts. Have a "Looking disappointing at people, saying that FF16 is not a real Final Fantasy game" kind of day...

Hey dukes! This one is more for matty but cog feel free to comment. You said the side quests in ff16 are bland and add nothing to story. Now for the most part in the first half they don’t but towards the end they have actually good story lines that tie up quite a bit of things. Just wanted to give my two cents I hope you guys have a great day and thanks for the best Xbox podcast around.

Hey Dukers, Why do people spell "Xbox" in weird ways? The regular "Xbox" with a capital "X" and the all caps "XBOX" make perfect sense to me, but why are people slapping a hypen in "X-box" or capitalizing the "B" in "XBox"? These aren't typos. I read posts all the time that consistently use these weird spellings.

Hey boys, longtime PlayStation player but love how the Dukes break down the industry and this is a long one. My question is about the Outer Worlds: I know it was Matty’s Game Pass pick of the week two weeks ago but as a PlayStation player, I’d love to play it and buy it. But when does it end? I’m highly skeptical of the sequel being on Playstation, same goes for Doom. I have limited time to play and don’t want to go into these games if there’s no chance of the sequels being on my platform of choice. I think this is a huge issue that differentiates what Microsoft does vs Sony: ripping sequels of existing IP off of other platforms. Have a Mets spend like the Yankees but are still the Mets, kind of day.

towtansua

What would you want Doublefine to do next? (Probably a Halo game, right?)

Nicholas Brilhart

Greetings Dukes. On this week's episode of Defining Duke Ultimate Matty talked about the process of putting together a squad for spoiler casts. So that got me thinking about the inevitable Starfield spoilercast. While with most game's there is a simple start to finish story to cover, a large part of what makes a Bethesda RPG special is the side content and simply getting lost in the world. Even if you don't account for who's getting what early and other games they'll be juggling, how long it takes to finish the game is likely going to be all over the place for everyone who wants to be involved. Then you have to account for who did what missions and it just seems like a monstrous task. So I guess my question is what's the current game plan for the Starfield spoilercast at the moment?

Hello Dukes, I am a huge fan. I am listening to your podcast since more than a year and I am from India (Pune). My question is as such - I own both PS5 and Xbox series X. Sony is doing far better job than Microsoft when it comes to exclusives. Insomniac, Naughty Dog, Sucker Punch...Just one banger after another. Do you think Microsoft will ever be able to compete when it comes to quality? Game Pass is one of the amazing service however when it comes to quality, I am still waiting. They definitely have done it before with Halo, Gears of War and Forza but what else and with latest mismanagement with Perfect Dark, 343 Industries, even Microsoft owns so many studios now....I still think they can't manage things well, whereas Sony has nailed the formula. What are your thoughts on this? Why Microsoft cannot manage their studios like Sony is doing it? If this thing is new for them to create amazing titles and they are still learning, it will take another decade for Microsoft to actually compete with Sony in terms of quality. And, one more question - Why Microsoft is not going for studios like Remedy or something in India. I myself works in gaming industry here. Started my career in Ubisoft Pune and then moved to Sumo Pune and now working for Lakshya Digital. I must say there is a huge potential and gaming studios here have a lot of talent and maybe can do wonders for Microsoft? - Ayush (Huge fan) of all of you...Colin, Chris, Dustin, Cog and ofcourse you Matty.

Hey Dukes, Random question, but what are your thoughts on the immersive sim as a genre/category? Attempting to play Prey for the 5th time and it has captured me in a way the previous attempts failed to - which is funny considering the game’s subject matter. This playthrough got me wondering what an immersive sim actually is. Of course Prey, Dishonored, Systemshock and Deus Ex fit perfectly. Then there are edge cases like Bioshock, which to me is firmly NOT an immersive sim. Then, maybe something like Kingdom Come Deliverance (the monastery quest in particular) is, but then that opens a whole can of worms relating to freedom and choice in open world games. Curious what you guys think of the genre and where you think it might be going. In light of the watered down immersive sim elements in Arkane’s latest releases and the exodus of the majority of their talent, I’m a little worried as an enjoyer of these types of games. Thanks and have a great day.

Hey Dukes, Do either of you play video games with your significant other? If so, any recommendations? As I've gotten older, (32 this week), the pressures of every day responsibilities takes more and more time away from when I would normally be playing games. I've found a great way to get my fix is to play games the wife and I can enjoy together. We love playing through the Telltale, Supermassive and Quantic Dream titles. She never played games before meeting me, so it's been a pleasure introducing her to so many new stories and a great way for us to spend time together. Thanks, as always, for the weekly entertainment! Have a "my ex didn't play games so there's the door" kinda day

Hello fellas In an interview between VGC and former Rare devs, Chris Sutherland, Grant Kirkhope, and Steve Mayles, they all think that Banjo Kozooie 3 would be very unlikely. The composer of many Rare games, Grant Krikhope stated that there isn't an audience for a third game. I'm not the biggest Banjo guy, but I always believed if anything, the original Banjo Kazooie needs a remake, and then you can go from there. Your guy's thoughts, and have yourselves an A1 day.

Captain Bon Clay

Howdy boys! Gamepass recently added Bramble:The mountain king, it’s a game I played a few weeks ago that I definitely recommend, it’s set in a world of dark Nordic fairytales where you play as a young boy who must travel the land to save your big sister, it has some pretty interesting boss encounters that aren’t your typical boss fights and my only complaint about the game is there is no voice acting

Anonymous

Hey Dukes, Ever take a chance on a game, something outside your wheelhouse, and just get sucked into it immediately? I just started Dave the Diver and I’ve been hooked! Have a “Happy Independence Day” kind of day!

Hows the afternoon duke boys, have a personal question. This one has to do with collecting things matty I know you go hard with retro rebound. But do you guys collect figures or cds other types of collectibles? Myself I’m into tcgs Pokémon, video games, and vinyl figures. I recently ordered the starfield collectors edition super excited. Have a I bought to many things and have no space kinda day.

Okay Dukes, enough of the nonsense. I'm sure I'm like many in that I'm so tired and bored of the ABK maybe, maybe-not acquisition: let's talk about actual VIDEO GAMES. What under-the-radar day 1 game pass games are you looking forward to? For me, Sea Of Stars, from Sabotage Studio the developers of The Messenger, is coming to Game Pass in August and this is such a damn good get for the service. I played the demo and it exceeded my already high expectations, so much so that I'll be supporting the devs and buying it despite it being there on game pass. For JRPG fans, it has Chrono Trigger written all over it, down to the damned coup of getting that game's composer in one of the goats Yasunori Mitsuda. Hope y'all have a "we're 19 games back on America's Team the Atlanta By God Braves" kind of day.

Anonymous

Yeah that Sea of Stars demo was great. Love when JRPGs have timed hits and blocks/dodges in combat like Mario RPG

G’day Matty and Cog, I wish to bend your corporate ears for a hypothetical. With all the hubbub around the abk case calling into question the long term sustainability of game pass I was wondering. If you guys were in the boardroom and had the chance to reinvent or repurpose gamepass how would you change it? Would you at all? Think purely from a business standpoint and not a consumer one since I doubt any of us are complaining about the value of gamepass. Much love from down under & long live the dukes!

Greetings and Salutations Dukes. I've really enjoyed the recent discourse on LSM around the benefits, but also drawbacks that come with a service like Gamepass. One such drawback that concerns me is whether Xbox in the future, will be able to economically justify the funding behind development of games on a similar technical, cinematic and narrative level as some of the first party Sony games. Games like Avowed, Hellblade, Clockwork Revolution and Fable are good visions into what the future of first party holds, but I wanted to know your thoughts on this. I know there was a bit of a negative reaction to Avowed (in my opinion overblown), but I guess, based on the limited footage we have seen, at least graphically, Avowed and Clockwork didnt look as great. Is there a realistic possibility that the value proposition Gamepass offers diminishes the "quality" of the suite of first party games, or in your opinion, is this a moot point? Have a I disdain your services but want your billions of dollars kinda day.

Greetings Dukes, Tim Schafer's recent statements about Psychonauts 3 not being in development have sparked my anticipation for Double Fine's next project. With their proven creativity and innovation, I am truly exciting to see what they have in store for us. Personally, I am captivated by the idea of a brand new 3D platformer. As much as I would like them to create a new IP, there's a certain charm in the notion of a revival of Banjo- Kazooie. Imagine Double Fine breathing new life into the the franchise, infusing it with their own imaginative ideas while staying faithful to its nostalgic roots. A game such as this would undoubtedly capture the hearts of both new and old fans of the series. What do you want to see from Double Fine's next game? Best, Sean M.

Hey guys, hope all is well. So it’s been about 3 weeks since the Starfield direct, I’ve recently been looking at a bunch of reactions to it on YouTube and stumbled across a certain Youtuber who is in my opinion unfairly judging a game they haven’t even played yet. I’m paraphrasing here but his words were “1000 empty worlds, the next redfall, I’ve already played fallout 4” this type of reaction felt extremely performative so my question is why is it okay for this type of reaction but if you’re genuinely excited for the game or any game in fact then you’re a “company shill” is this not the same thing on the complete opposite end? I keep being told remember Fallout 76 but I can’t tell them remember Skyrim, Oblivion, Fallout 3 and 4? All game of the year contenders. Why do we use 1 game as a prime example of what the company is and not the whole catalog of genre defining games they’ve built over the years? Don’t get me wrong FO76 was a disaster but they have proven to me through their track record over the last decade or so that they deliver these types of experiences. I guess in this industry you’re only as good as your last product. Anyway thanks guys and take care of yourselves.

Hello Dukes and Happy 4th! With the FTC case coming to a close this week, what's your gut checks on the end result? If the FTC somehow wins, what moves do you think MS will make next? Have a 'I don't care that both Matty and one of the Lords isn't hot on FF16, it's a real FF to me' kind of day.

Hi Dukes, how can you like GamePass, when it decreases the quality of games? Do you actually know, that Microsoft pays less for their developers compared to others? What do you think of Microsoft clearly dropping consoles and going for cloud and cellphones only? (Phil said this in the abk-trial) Have a let’s all cancel GamePass day!

Hey Dukes, Easel here. Back for more "Timely Trails Talk"! I listened to DD this morning and I noticed you mentioned a certain JRPG you couldn't talk about. Checking your channels, I can't but help notice this was Trails Into Reverie. So I have to ask, how is it? (this is a lead up question for you to tee off the subject on) And more importantly, how has the cumulation of all these other Trails games been? How does the series' "finale" handle this, and if so, describe what it's been like across your journey up to this point. (Noting of course that Trails is one of those rare game series' that has this level of continuality, without relying on choice based dialogue sequels. Thinking of Mass Effect as an example of those). I've personally only finished Sky trilogy, so I know better then to watch your review (yes I know..), so you may have clarified this already. Lastly, I wanna go out on a "Spotify pick of the week" type suggestion. Just a song, not an album or game. It's the super eery pick of, "The Enforcers" from Sky:SC. Glad to hear from you as always, and have a "long franchises are super intimidating, but the pay off between each game you finish is awesome" type of day! Salute to you and Cog, even though I know he's not into these style of games.

Anonymous

Dukes , Once again I'm here asking the same question. Will there be a Lightfallspoilercast? Thanks and have a great day

Anonymous

Heya Dukes, Matty as someone whose favorite series is Trails, and their favorite game is Trails into Reverie I was glad to see that you enjoyed it. As someone who played the game a couple of years ago, I thought I would ask a few questions about the game 1- Did you know who C was before the reveal either by getting spoiled or picking up on clues? And do you think this person works as a main character? 2- What were some of your favorite Daydreams? In my opinion, obviously, the three visual novel ones were great but the Osborne one had me bawling my eyes out. 3- Do you think other JRPGs or games, in general, should look at introducing some of the interesting mechanics from this game? I personally think many games would benefit from switching to multiple perspectives. Thanks, and have a "the next game in the series is also peak fiction" kinda day.

Greetings Aromantic Matty and Smooth Operator Cog! I have been a long time worker on both the Defining Duke and MrMatty plays. I've been content to just stay in the background and support with subs and listen in on the conversation and topics that you guys bring up. But no more! I have to congratulate you Matty, your commentating on romance in video games in the last episode has driven me to become a patron so that I can have the opportunity to rebuttal. I am a fan of yours due to about 90% of our RPG taste being similar. But this is one major point of contention that truly boggles me whenever it's brought up. I'm of the same mind as Cog. A bit of romance truly adds a good deal of spice to RPGs for me. And one of my main contracting points from Outer Worlds what's the fact that there was no romance and I had to live vicariously through Parvati. It was nowhere near enough, even if she is a precious cinnamon roll. While some have their background in more Eastern RPGs like the Final Fantasy or Chrono series or Western influences like the elder scrolls series. My love for this particular genre comes from BioWare. Things like choice and consequences, alignments and storytelling are important to me. But, as in a majority of the greater works of BioWare romance is practically an essential part of the greatest story. Having those astounding moments with Bastille, forming bonds that surpassed death and Jade empire and the slew of romantic opportunities in both Mass Effect and Dragon Age have truly been a key feature for me. And, while you may find the bit towards the end of those romance sequences a bit much I think it adds to the overall rising and falling action of it all with a payment, story wise, for all the work you put into the relationship in the end of it all. Regardless, I'm still a big fan of you all but I just wanted to get the word out as someone who finds romance and RPGs an important cornerstone and who hopes that it's integrated more and more and a future. Have a, hopefully there's romance options in Outer Worlds 2 and satisfying ones in Starfield, kind of day!

Greetings Merger Matty and Consolidating Cog, Let me start by saying I’m fortunate enough to own all 3 consoles and consider myself to be pretty unbiased on the console war. However, I will admit I favor 3rd person action/adventure games so I suppose I play my PS5 most. With that out of the way, I just wanted to ask you guys what exactly you think Jim Ryan is supposed to be doing right now? I feel as if you guys are being a bit fanboyish and taking cryin Jim Ryan to task over doing his job. Don’t you kind of feel like attempting to block or slow down the biggest video game merger in history is the kind of thing a CEO gets paid the big bucks for? Do you expect him to just sit back and do nothing? Is that what you think Phil would do if the shoe were on the other foot? He answers to the shareholders and no matter how you cut it, the ABK merger is NOT good for Sony’s bottom line. The guy is finally doing what executives get paid to do….deal with “big” problems that affect the companies overall value. Just something to consider in the coming weeks when this all goes down one way or the other that I personally don’t care about either way. Have a “one of these companies stock values is about to plummet and people are gonna be out of jobs so we shouldn’t be rooting for this” kinda day.

Hey Dukes- Not sure if this was already asked, but I wanted to follow up on Matty’s appearance on Constellations this week. How do you guys feel about the concept that Jaffe brought up regarding the Xbox executives being fake and fans falling for it. I definitely see where Jaffe is coming from because it is a little odd to idolize executives from any corporation. However, I know it is also about being excited for Xbox as a brand. I am a little torn on the subject and would love to hear Cog’s thoughts since his pictures with Sarah Bond were specifically referenced. I’m sorry if it sounds like I’m trying to create a conflict. It didn’t seem like Jaffe was being personally critical of you guys. I just thought this might a good discussion for the show. Thanks for all you do and have a simply nice day.

SpectreBull

Greetings, Dukes! AI has gotten scary good at replicating the voices of our favorite characters, but hearing Sonic embrace his inner MJ and sing Billie Jean is too damn funny. My question is this - what inner music artist (band or solo) do you think your favorite video game characters would let out? For me, I cannot wait to hear Banjo and Kazooie sing Charlie Daniels or Dragonforce. Have an "I for one welcome our robot overlords" kind of day.

Hello Matty and Cog, There is so much to say these days with the FTC trial, Game Pass in general and how MS is managing their studios. As an owner of all three consoles I sadly mostly use my Series X in Dev Mode as an emulation device (and its a damn good one at that) but with MS having so many studios and such high costs and let's be real failing to deliver recently I have to wonder if they need to more radically change course. If they need to publish games on other platforms then why not just go third party and software only like Sega did? The extra revenue from being everywhere can help off set the development costs and fits more in line with the supposed vision of giving players more choice. Also they need may need to let go of some of their studios to keep Game Pass profitable and the keep the asking price low. I can't help but feel that MS went hard into day 1 first party releases and Game Pass and there is simply no going back. This business model makes more sense as a software only approach. Would love to hear your takes. Have a "my kids keep interrupting me while I try to play a game" kind of day. PS, Cog I heard about your diverticulitis incident on Constellation. I had an bout of it years ago and it was uniquely terrible and had me down for a few days in terrible stomach pain. Sounds like your on the mend, hope you are keeping well man!

NeO JD

Fellas, I know this an Xbox show but I gotta know, which are we playing first on 10/20: Spider-Man 2 or Super Mario Bros Wonder? Thanks and have a what do you mean there’s not a lord named Cognito in Final Fantasy XVI kind of day.

The Great Santini

What's up Dukes! I don't think I've ever written into THIS show in particular but here goes nothing: I'm curious as to why either of you/both of you would "root" for publishers getting taken off table in terms of their ability to remain multi-platform. For example: an acquisition of SEGA by Microsoft seems to be something you both have encouraged over the past year or so. There have been other publishers mentioned as well. As an Xbox/PS5/Switch owner, I totally understand arguing the benefits of such acquisitions in terms of BUSINESS, but I can't understand wanting entire subsections of gamers losing access to the games these publishers make. I think in an ideal world, the remaining third-party publishers would remain independent and all three platform holders would be required to build on what they currently have. Alas, we do not live in an ideal world =P. Anyway, I LOVE listening to you guys and the rest of Last Stand so thanks for all that you do!

OTTAPPS

My Dukes, On the latest Constellation, Jaffe referenced Cog’s picture with Sarah Bond in a wider point about Xbox Executives buddying up to influencers/media and the executives being somewhat idolized by some people in this space. Perhaps Matty should paraphrase the point further as he was on Constellation and offered a response, but I would like to hear from our man Cog on how it feels about this point or whether he wants to offer a retort. Have a “Is Unconscious Bias slipping into my Dukes” kinda day

Hi Dukes, With Avowed due to release next year I thought it was finally time to get into Pillars of Eternity and immerse myself in the world of Eora. I tried it last year but gave up after a couple hours as I’m a CRPG novice and found it overwhelming. However, this time around it clicked for me and I’m hooked. The world is fascinating and the lore is some of the deepest I’ve encountered in a game. The companions are well written and have interesting backstories, and the choice and consequence system makes nearly every quest feel worthwhile. My question for you guys is have you ever given this game a try, or do you intend to before Avowed releases? I can say my personal excitement for Avowed has shot up because of this playthrough and I think many who give it a try would feel the same. Thanks for making the best Xbox podcast out there!

Hello mighty dukes First off I want to get something off my chest. why does everyone say game pass is bad or not good for the industry? People will bring up quotes from the big publishers saying they don’t like game pass, when those same publishers have said there is no place for AAA single player games and that their Gaas fund there #just1 games. sounds like to me people are just picking and choosing what suits their case. I don’t think game pass was ever meant to be the money maker but rather the attention seeker to get people to play and spend money on the ecosystem which is what so many people forget also some of the biggest money makers in the industry are free Gaas and no one is concern those games are free, I guess that’s because it doesn’t have Xbox behind it. Apologies dukes I don’t mean to waste your time even having to look at this. On positive note I got a swapped it or keep Xbox and PlayStation show edition Starfield-marathon Avowed - Spiderman 2 Fable - dragons dogma 2 South of midnight - concord Clockwork - hell divers 2 Hellblade 2 - Alan wake 2 Towerborne - fairgames Star Wars outlaws - phantom blade 0 Have a great week dominating dukes

NeO JD

DUKES, I had to scrap my last question and change it to this after going through the latest Stelly with Jaffe. Point blank: What do we gotta do to get you guys to try Marvel Snap? Just try it. 1 game. It’s free. If you don’t want to stick with it, it’s cool, but I won’t stand for the “it’s a mobile game” slander. 😄 Thanks and have a what do you mean there’s not a lord named Cognito in Final Fantasy XVI kind of day.

Dukes of controllers, Is now the time to get an Elite controller? I was hoping to hear about an Elite 3, but I'm not sure that is happening anymore. Thoughts?

Sup dukes, I recently just finished Wasteland 3 after years of putting it off and boy is it great. The level of choice and consequence in the game is amazing and the tactical x-com style combat truly highlights the crpg genre. Now we know that Inxile is working on Clockwork Revolution & Obsidian is working on Avowed and evolving pillars from its crpg roots. With that said, I see a growing trend of developers moving on from the genre into the more action rpg focus. Although I love my big open rpg’s and am beyond excited for both of these games. I see a void starting to form in this crpg genre and wonder what your thoughts are about this. Will we ever see a future where we see a big budget Wasteland 4, Fallout tactics style rpg, Divinity 3, Pillars 3, etc? Thankfully Larian studios is still cooking with Baldur’s Gate 3 around the corner. This seems to be exactly the game I’m asking for above with a big budget but at the rate we’re going I wouldn’t be surprised if they evolved into an action rpg dev as well. Look forward to hearing your thoughts. #keepthegenrealive

Dear Dukes, Quick question, what are your thoughts on Apple’s renewed efforts for Gaming on Mac with Death Stranding and Resident Evil 8 on Mac? With an install base in the millions it might be a great opportunity for Microsoft to bring Xbox games to Mac, now with the power of Apple Silicon. Especially with Apple’s new Porting Tool Kit it is easier than ever to bring games to the Mac. Hope to see Matty’s game and future/past Lillymo Games on Mac. Sincerely, Nik

Hey boys, I got an Xbox as a gift a year ago and finally felt as if there was enough I was interested in on gamepass to get it out of the box. I am a PlayStation gamer for my whole life so I thought I’d offer my first impressions as a newcomer to the platform. -AA Batteries? Is this a wiimote? -Green -the Home Screen is loading? - The controller isn’t connecting? -*downloads 400$ worth of content for 10$*

Lord Matnito and Mr. Coggy Plays, Obsidian, Bethesda, and inXile have made some of my favorite games. Even as a PlayStation boi, the Xbox showcase had me excited (much more so than PlayStation’s) and I’m more likely than ever to finally buy one. With that in mind, Obsidian and inXile games are great but they’ve always had a double-A feel to them. These trailers for their upcoming games have me wondering if Microsoft’s backing will help push them into the triple-A tier. If not with their current projects, maybe their future ones. What say you?

Dear DD crew, Like everyone in lsm I have played a lot of games in my life but lately I’ve been obsessed with the idea of the gameplay loop and how stagnant it’s become for triple a games. the loop for most triple a games nowadays is narrative/exposition, combat, traversal, and maybe throw in some puzzles here and there. My question is what are ways that these triple a devs can deviate or evolve the gameplay loop? Thanks gentlemen and have a been subbed to lsm/cls since 2018 but been too shy to write in until now kind of day

Hey Dukes, Speaking first party games I’m curious what your ideal next 2-3 years would look like? What do you want to see? What would it take for Xbox to really pop off past the upcoming starfield & Forza releases Cheers from Canada

Hello Dukes, Remnant 2 comes out July 21st and I haven't heard either of you mention it. This is a coop, third person, looter shooter with some souls like elements. It’s basically dark souls with guns and the first was an absolute blast and very underrated. It's not brutally hard, but it is still definitely challenging. The build diversity is awesome and the second game looks to improve on these RPG elements even more. Interested to hear if this game speaks to looter shooter COG or if Matty plans to review this game as July seems like a pretty slow month and this game could easily sneak up on people. Love what you both do and I hope you have a “Is Starfield out yet?” kind of day.

Hey Dukes Do any of you have a non-fanboy stance on certain franchises to you feeling more at home on certain hardware (i.e. Final Fantasy with PlayStation, Bethesda proper with Xbox, Persona and PlayStation). While I know you both seem indifferent to the M&A environment, would it bother you if a third party franchise started going exclusive to another platform it wasn’t known for, even if you could technically still play it? Thanks!

Matty and Cog, PS5 / PC gamer here. Do you guys think we will eventually get a gears collection on PC? This is one of xbox and microsofts best series or so I’ve heard and I would love to try it out without buying another console. Also, what are some games on PC game pass that are not on Playstation that are worth checking out? I like everything single player with good combat and/or good narrative. Thanks, and have a “I bought a ps5 and then a few days later xbox bought Bethesda” kind of day!
