The fallout from Xbox's showcase has left us with many tantalizing topics to tackle. Obsidian's upcoming epic, Avowed, received a deep dive from game director Carrie Patel where she reveals more story and gameplay details on the 2024 RPG. From a confirmation that this is a full single player game all the way to its in-depth melee combat, the Dukes have it completely covered. Furthermore, Xbox is feeling bullish about Starfield and it is showing. Someone pointed out to me that the Fable character looks like Shrek and now I can’t unsee it. Why do American devs always want to make female characters ugly as sin? They don’t do that bullshit in Japan.

We cant have attractive women in western games anymore, because then everyone screams "sexism, women aren't just objects too drool over, etc etc" Seriously, thats the actual reason, and i dont blame devs for not wanting to deal with it. In japan they dont care, give characters massive balloon boobs, no one bats an eye about it in japan lmao. Europe doesnt seem to care that much either, tons of good looking women in witcher 3 and 2077, but western devs dont even want to deal with the twitter mob, and who can blame them. "Blue hair in the writers room" as they say.

It's strange but in regards to Avowed what I saw was exactly what I expected. When I hear Obsidian Skyrim I immediately thought fantasy version of Outerworld. Also I am playing through Outerworld right now and the color style of both Avowed and Outerworlds look very similar. I just cannot place why so many are suprised by this. Maybe I am missing something but based on their previous work with Outerworlds it's unsurprising to see that this is their take on fantasy.

Do you think Starfield will eventually get a 60fps? I’ve owned every Xbox besides this current generation, as their games have been absent, and I was waiting for a “show Me” moment. Starfield looks fucking amazing but the 30fps news was a bummer. Feels like i should just hold off on a Series X for now

It might if they do a mid-generation refresh, but honestly you should just play it, if you wait to play Starfield, I feel like spoilers will be unavoidable. It’s like waiting for Game of Thrones to be available on Blu-Ray. Big risk

Matty! I can't believe you recognized Hugo's voice actor in FF16, but not Amicia's actress as Jill Warrick. Hugo does have a particularly unique sounding voice I suppose. Hearing them in scenes together again was both jarring and heartening.

I don't really think it matters or affects the quality of the game. I'm a straight guy but I don't need the female characters in the games I play to be hot to have a good time. It's just not what I'm looking for. There are so many other ways to look at attractive women. But maybe I'm the odd man out and the market cares more than I do.

I'm with you, and I almost like the fact that she's more average-looking, as sometimes the "everyone's beautiful" approach to character design gets a little reductive imo. I think the few other recognisable characters featured in the showcase (Senua, Kay Vess, Ichiban, V) are all conventionally attractive in any case. Also if any game fits an average -> "unique" looking marketing character, it would be Fable haha - that fits right in with the tone from what I can tell, especially if previous games are anything to go by. In theory, there should be an increased relatability to the world as well... can't imagine *too* many of us are 10s here 😂
