Is Zelda Nintendo's Next Movie? | Punching Up: A Nintendo Podcast, Episode 3

Nintendo is riding high on the massive success of the Super Mario Bros. Movie. Who wouldn't be thrilled after making billions of dollars? But, as with any triumph, the next question on everyone's mind is, what's next? The rumors are already swirling about a potential Legend of Zelda film. Unfortunately, these rumors suggest another collaboration with Illumination, the same team behind the Mario Movie and other popular animated children's films like Despicable Me and The Secret Life of Pets. Will they be able to handle the serious tone of Zelda, or are we in for a predictable children's film with cheesy jokes and slow-motion gags? The Punching Up team dives into these thoughts, along with a bunch of other Nintendo news and questions from the audience. How excited are we for the upcoming release of Pikmin 4? Why is Nintendo quietly releasing Everybody 1-2 Switch? And what are our fondest memories of Nintendo? It's all here, so hit play and enjoy! Weirdly enough they just had ET and JAWS remastered in IMAX as a double feature, and they were awesome. Dustin be sleepin on the good stuff. We are the same age and you never saw it on tv as a kid? It was always on when i was young lmao.

I'm so excited that you guys created a Nintendo podcast. I'm a Nintendo gamer at heart and while I love to watch other people play PlayStation and Xbox games, and hear them talked about, this new podcast really is what I've been looking for!

Traditional fighting games have a very limited set of ways that you can move. With smash you have a lot more control and my character feels much more like an extension of myself rather than something like MK or Street fighter which has a much higher skill floor and steeper learning curve. I think traditional fighters are much more button mashy

I would also like to say, I respect Micah's opinion but I much prefer puzzles that might make me feel dumb but are much more gratifying to solve than resident evil-style puzzle design "WhOaA!!!!! a square peg, square hole, circle peg, circle hole, triangle peg and triangle hole!!! wonder what the solution is to this glorified fisher price toy!!!!!!!!!!!"

Punching Up is the best podcast on LSM

Totally agree with Dustin regarding Metroid Prime. I too finished the Remaster this year (I'd tried on the Wii back in the day) and it felt every day as old as it is. I have a huge amount of respect for it, but coming in basically fresh in 2023, this stuck out like a sore thumb.

To be fair Dustin I am a huge Metroid fan and while I do like and enjoy Metroid Prime, I definitely don't hold it as high as others. That said, Dread for me is pinnacle of the series as the gameplay is sublime and really showcases how badass Samus is (among many other things I love about the game; suit redesign is gorgeous). I am really looking forward to the next side scrolling game in the series and hope we don't have to wait terrible long for it.

Enough people have been lukewarm to sour on Metroid Prime that I’m going to skip it. Sounds like one that needed to be played during its time.

Degen, I feel the same way about Smash, I just can't. I come from the old school fighting games. PS: Put Chris on the Zelda spoiler cast.

Regarding the segment about 1-2 Switch and party games, I feel like I have to plug a recent sleeper game... Dokapon Kingdom. It was originally a PS2 and Wii game that was recently remastered with online play. If you guys have not checked it out, particularly Dustin, you really should give it a look. On paper, it's a mix of jrpgs and Mario Party. In practice, it's a friendship destroyer. Not only does the game make players turn on each other, the CPU gets in on the action as well. The hatred it shows to players is nothing short of comical! I know this doesn't sound like a great pitch, but it really is a special party game that deserves more attention. I would pay to see you guys do a let's play of Dokapon Kingdom.

First two episodes were a lot of fun, but this one was SO smooth. Great banter, really natural, everyone involved, hilarious. Keep it up!! Every member has already hit his/her stride.

Xenoblade Chronicles is so good. I played it on the 3ds and grabbed it on the Wi U as well.

I genuinely love this podcast. Everyone does such a great job.

Dustin - I am curious if you all have thought about doing supplemental Punching Up episodes for any spoilercasts/review discussions or other special coverage? A monthly “Punching Up Lite”? Excited to hear what you all thought of the TOTK ending and overall story!
