Dream Jobs, Concerts, Listening to Music, Advertising | Constellation, Episode 20

Welcome back to Constellation! This time around, the Brothers Moriarty welcome executive producer Dustin Furman and Punching Up co-host Gene Park. Gene waxes poetic about his concert-going experiences, and inquires about which live acts are best (and worst). Dustin keeps the music theme going with a deep-dive into our listening habits over the years, with a particular eye paid to the format we were using, whether tape, CD, MP3, or something else entirely. Dagan wants to know where our heads are at with advertising. Do we ever fall prey? What's some of our favorite advertising ever? Is the old-school era of advertising truly over? Finally, Colin gets into dream jobs, the employment we'd seek if we had complete control over our lives in every facet. Sure, our gigs now are awesome, but they can be even better...

Cornerstone was the jam! I went in 06. Dustin, what band was your dad in?

New Stelly thank you! Keep up the phenomenal work! 💙

I saw Blue October live at First Ave. in Minneapolis. It was kind of cool how they handled things, they played their entire new album front to back, but then and went on to play an entire albums worth of other music from previous album. (In terms of energy it was one of the best concerts I've ever seen) Another great one was Linkin Park at the MN State Fair in... 2014 it was spectacular! That was my second time seeing them, and it was a million times better than the first time. 30 seconds to Mars open to them and until that day I did not know Jared Leto was the singer 😂

I definitely jive with the Christian rock side of Dustin’s music tastes. Always wanted to go to cornerstone but lived too far away. Some of my favorite Christian rock/hardcore bands growing up: Underoath, TDWP, ABR, Relient K, Pillar, Red, For Today. And many many others.

I understand it’s all relative and by normal standards he is correct but as someone who came to Butler for the live show and is from the sticks, it’s comical to hear Dustin refer to it as a “small town”

Colin, I fully respect your use of Youtube premium, but I'm a bit confused, do you not run ad-block on your browser? I haven't seen an ad / gotten my videos interrupted in years so whenever this comes up in conversation I'm a bit confused.

Maybe they want to support the creators they watch. That's why I have YouTube Premium.

Derek Williams

I use YouTube almost exclusively on my phone, so using the YouTube app while having premium is just super convenient. No issue paying for it, as I’ve been going on it for about 5 plus years now.

Gene should be the new face of Dos Equis 🍺

I was on my way to work randomly listening to NPR and the segment with Gene. Hearing his voice I immediately went, “Oh shit it’s Gene Park!” Followed by the sound of a fire alarm and, “Oh shit not Gene Park!”. The NPR host sounded optimistic in her sign-off but glad to hear, and see, that you’re okay.

Also, look up “Fiorentina Nintendo” or “Dreamcast Arsenal” for some interesting advertising jerseys.

Hey Colin, I've been listening to you for years and have noticed your music preferences. I'm a Juilliard grad and have been in the music business for almost a decade and not to push, but I'm surprised you never mention Queens of the stone age. Like Clockwork seems like an album you would absolutely love along with everyone of their albums (minus Villains). Thanks for the great content and always wishing you well.

Dustin, Walking Dead is a million times better than One Piece lol sorry not sorry

TL

I'm a huge The Walking Dead fan, but a warning with no spoilers, season 8 is the worst one IMO. It kind of drags out. The show gets back to normal after that.

I have also not seen an ad on YT thanks to YT Premium or on any website at all in many, many years due to an ad block plug-in. I used a work browser once and I have never seen so many ads in my life on YT and Chrome. It was unbearable and I cannot fathom how anyone can surf without an ad blocker.
