Hello sacred fuckers, Long time, first time. Along with you three, I have been absolutely loving getting back to Final Fantasy VI on the pixel remaster collection, am particularly hung up on how great the music is in that game and series. I even had an awesome music history professor break down the music for the final boss fight of that game, as well as taking a long look at its composer, Nobuo Uematsu, who basically wrote a classical sonata for a jrpg. This brings me to my question: what game do you guys think has the best soundtrack in recent memory (perhaps the last 5 years)? My pick might have to be God of War Ragnarok recently, with a huuuuge shoutout to Elden Ring.

G'day CDC, Next week I'm off on an adventure, crossing the great Australian Nullarbor from Perth to Adelaide. I'm planning on listening to a big chunk of sacred symbols content, but also some of my favourite video game soundtracks. With a whopping 28hrs+ of driving I'm surely to run out. So I'm wondering what are some of your favourite video game soundtracks? Thanks for all you do, Alit

Chris brought up Kenny vs Spenny last episode, these guys are Canadian treasures. Spencer Rice from Kenny vs Spenny came to my hometown bar in Olds, Alberta, for a comedy show about 3 years ago. He was depressed because he hadn't been home for like 2 months travelling around to all the little shitty towns like Olds. He sat with us at our booth for the better part of an hour and had some beers. The hockey game was on, so he couldn't start until that finished, which was probably annoying. The dude truly does not like Kenny. I think they were friends when the show started but he was going on and on about how annoying he is - it didn't seem like it was for show either - I think he was really just venting. Anyways, the show is hilarious, and I highly recommend a watch!

Hey CDC, Minor Spoilers I just finished playing Burning Shores and got to the part that others are complaining about. After all the controversy I was surprised to find out that that particular scene is a dialogue choice. Isn't complaining about the outcome basically telling on yourself because the other two options play out differently.

Hey all! After their back-to-back L's on the Activision deal and Redfall reviews, Microsoft is having a tough 2023 but with the showcase coming do you think that Microsoft could pull off a Hail Mary and announce a super-secret unknown exclusive for this fall? Also, can we name this episode "The Gang goes HAM on Microsoft"? An obvious homage to Always Sunny in Philadelphia. Thanks all something, something, something that chicken!

Michael

Have any of you three ever paused a game and rubbed one out to a video game character? I came close during Nier Automata.

Hey guys, While none of us care about Kotaku, a senior editor there ranted about being blacklisted by Nintendo and proceeded to publish an article basically spoiling Tears of the Kingdom based on leaks that have surfaced. I would ask whatever happened to integrity in journalism, but it’s well established that doesn’t exist at Kotaku. How long until we witness the fall of one of the worst gaming sites?

Hey Gentleman, I want to write in in regards to a comment Dustin made saying the Elite 2 controller is better than the Dual Sense Edge. As someone who works for an electronics retailer and sells these controllers pretty frequently I have to say this is not true. The Elite 2 controllers constantly brake down and are having to be exchanged out. I replace at least 10-12 a month most months. I can also say after owning both the built in software for the Dual Sense Edge is much better than the Elite 2. Just wanted to give another viewpoint on the premium controllers. Keep making the amazing content and give the poor chicken a brake!

Greetings you Sacred and Symbolic gents. Patreon virgin here and I’ve chosen you as my first. Now with that disturbing image in mind, I will press on… Celebrating my 51 years tomorrow (being Star Wars day) I have reached a point in my life where looking back at memories is now a daily occurrence. I have many fond ones when it comes to gaming, and as a new PS5 owner, it occurred to me that a certain magic has been lost. This is pure nostalgia obviously, but I miss the days of midnight launches for new consoles. The lack of online social media to ruin pretty much everything. Gleaning gaming info from magazines only, and waiting with great excitement for new releases, with little knowledge of most of the content. Making the game itself more of a joy (or a crushing disappointment) when you finally got your hands on it. Not having to wait for games to be fucking patched because they’ve been released half baked at full price. No micro transactions. No dlc bullshit. Just a full game, warts and all. No fuss no foul. It was a simpler time back then. Well it seems so to me anyway. My question is if you could bring back one thing from the gaming world of that era, and get rid of one thing from today, what would it be? Love the show, and would really be stoked if you guys could do a show in the UK. All the best.

Hello the true Playstation All Stars, Just wanted to support Dustin on the disc vs download debate. My best friend John who is also a listener is currently trying RE4. John would likely have never played it if i did not have the disc for him to borrow. In addition i would have never played Elden Ring without his disc purchase because i knew i would hate that game and would have never bought it myself. There are many more examples of this in just our friendship alone including the DS Fire Emblem games, Breath of the Wild, Ghostwire Tokyo, Ghost of Tsushima and Deathloop to name a few. Also these nerds aren’t complaining about lesbians when they frequent that category on the Hub so keep putting them in their place.

Hey Sacred Dudes, With you all talking about the sacred symbols sandwich, it got me thinking... What if Sony had a small PlayStation themed Cafe? What kind of food would they serve and based on what franchises? And no, we are not doing Nathan Drake's Papa John's Pizza.

Hello C, C and the big D, Holly and Micah's answered this question on their Sacred Symbols Plus episode but I think it would be fun for you all to answer the same. What is the worst game you forced yourselves to finish? Why did you do it and how did you feel when it was over? Colin, please exclude anything you were forced to play for IGN. Can't wait to your entertaining responses. Thank you for all the great content. PS - If you need or want to know mine. I am embarrassed to say it was the Wii version of Sonic Unleashed. I swear I am not one of those crazy Sonic fans but it was one of the few games my roommate and I had in college in a shared collection and with very little cash to your name, you played what you had. That experience really made realize the value of a dollar, now like you all I play only what I want when I want!

Hey CDC, I just thought I'd chime in on last week's speculation about the popularity of Funko Pops given I'm in a bit of a unique position to give a perspective. Until recently I worked for Australia's largest collectables distributor, and at a conservative estimate I'd say at least 60-70% of the warehouse was dedicated to those soulless little pieces of vinyl. And the customers themselves are ravenous for them, often with bizarre requests for the packing room, so I have no doubt they'd leap on a console Pop game in droves despite how late it is. As much as Chris has friends that collect, I promise they're nothing like the collectors we had to deal with on a daily basis. I could go on, but I'll spare you this grizzled veteran's old war stories. Anyway, the show is great company as I'm on the road a lot with my current job, and for that I'm very grateful. Cheers, gents.

Hey CDC, With the disappointing reception to Redfall, do you think heads are going to roll at Xbox? Do you think if Starfield is well received Phil Spencer and Matt Booty may be able to buy themselves some time? Thanks, love the show.

Beau!

Hey Boys, With all of Playstation's upcoming live service games should Sony create one PlayStation battle pass that works for all live games? Maybe merge PlayStation stars in so I am unlocking items or credits for a live game just by playing and buying games. Simple is better IMO.

Anonymous

Hey boys, just wanted to shout out Dustin for his physical media support. Since high school, my friend group has had a syndicate where we work out who buys what and then swap. It means all of us get to enjoy more games overall, but of course if we want to support something or don't want to wait, we'll buy it day one. Cheers from "down here in the south" of Australia

Hey CDC, With the new venture into live service games that Playstation is going towards, they have reassured us that their focus on high quality, narrative-focused single player games will not be forgotten. However it seems that many of their single player focused studios have been putting their efforts towards making sequels in the last few years rather than new IP. Examples of course include The Last of Us, Horizon, God of War, Spiderman, and also the rumored Ghost of Tsushima sequel. My question is this: Which Sony first party studio do you think will be the first to put out a single player AAA new IP this generation? Personally I would like to see a new single player open world game from Sony Bend that grows upon what they learned from Days Gone. Hope you all are well, Steve

Anonymous

What do you guys think about the current state of variable game prices? It's kind of funny that a critical darling like Hi-Fi Rush was only $30, and Redfall was $70. Hi-Fi Rush could have gotten away with a premium price tag, and expectations for Redfall would have been way lower if it was a $30 game. Are smaller games undervalued? It seems like the determining factor in a game's price is marketing and not quality. Should publishers be more granular with how they price their AAA games?

Hello all natural gentleman, Do you fine gentleman have a dream game from an older/neglected PS IP? Colin would you like a VR jumping flash? Dustin a hyper realistic pig spanking remake of Tomba? Mr.Gun a new Resistance w/ a grappling hook?? I would like a new Wild Arms w/ the FF7 Remake battle system. Thanks for all you do and before you go…We have a saying down here friend….

Bryce Mccloskey

What's up two C's one D. I've dipped my toes into Jedi Survivor over the past few days and i've bounced off of it for the most part. The framerate and screen tearing are pretty awful and need to be patched but my greatest problem lies elseware. After some exploring in the open world, I opened a chest and recieved a Mullet cosmetic for my effort. Way too much of the loot in this game is cosmetic garbage not enough of it is meaningful items that effect gameplay. I'll leave you with this question. What is the most dissapointing thing you've pulled out of a chest and why? Peace and love!

HEY CDC, Do y'all have "gamer's sight" and if so how can you tell? I for one am not sure what's the difference between 4K and 1080p or whatever it's called. I'm still gaming on a PS4 and it's not a pro. I know when I upgrade to PS5 you are supposed to upgrade your TV to 4K to get the most out of the system then maybe I can tell the difference. What say you who are gifted with the sight of a gamer... Was the difference between PS4 and PS5 that dramatic? And as always STAND DOWN from F'n that chicken my boys 😉

Jacob

Hey, guys! Do you think there is a correlation to recent games with bad performance and Unreal Engine? Jedi Survivor, Redfall, Gotham Knights, and Hogwarts Legacy are all running on Unreal and had rocky launches. Thanks, Jacob

Aric Peña (@AricJP)

Guys! I’ll get right to it: My best friend’s wife leaves her PS5 on for DAYS at a time, sometimes a week or more, and it hurts my soul; makes me want to shake a baby. So, I gotta know: what do each of you think about leaving your consoles on for an indefinite amount of time? I personally have always turned off my electronics or put them into rest mode when they’re not in use. I’ll leave my computer on throughout the day but it’s off by the time I go to sleep. Can ya’ll please weigh in on this? Electronics have a life-span! They’re not just going to work in perpetuity! You gotta let them rest! And, remember: the soul you have is electricity.

Hey Colin, I’ve been revisiting Mass Effect with the Legendary Edition and I’ve finally made it to the third game. I remember playing through this when it released in 2012 and I’ve always thought it was the best in the series. Playing through it again just reinforces to me how truly special this game is and also reminds me of the controversies surrounding it, particularly the ending. My question is how do you think ME3 holds up today? I personally always thought the fan uproar over the ending was a little extreme. Thank you for all you do!

Hey Guys, I was shocked listening to your guys's conversation last week about how you get rid of grass clippings. I'm not from the US and we have out compost bin taken out every couple of weeks to be given to local community gardens. As a person who has gardened in the past I bet your local gardens would love your class clippings, banana peels and coffee grounds Also, I'm aware of the show's anti-recycling stance but if you do that too you'll only take out the trash once every couple of months, just saying. Cheers

Hey CDC, What's your go-to drink with food? And what if you could only have one drink? For me it was previously cold glass pepsi, but recently I've been drinking only water with food and it got to the point where it feels like any other drink taints the taste of the dish. You taste your food so much more with just water, especially pizza. Wanted to see what you think

Colin (specifically) - just a post about combining your love of drums and Dracula - a drum play through of Dracul Gras (https://youtu.be/FUk72MwuWrs). Wanted to share this band with you for years. Misha the guitarist actually produced a lot of Halo 2 music for the MCC. You had some of my original metal music on PS ILY back in the day when you had music at the end of episodes too. Hope all is well! I’m a friend of Brian Duphily’s (he was dating Erin’s sister), just popping my head up again. Long time listener, I appreciate all you guys do! Also think it would be cool to see more bands in modern games, outside of the sports realm.

Hey CDC You guys were talking last week about how nice a shorter game like Dead island 2 is compared to playing live service games that you have to constantly keep up with. As an Old school COD fan this had me thinking. I loathed the era where COD had Supply drops and I loathe the current era where we now have a battle pass. And it’s not just cod, it’s every multiplayer game. Will there EVER be an era again where all the content for a PVP multiplayer game will just be on the disc? Or are we stuck with constant weekly or Monthly content updates? Maybe I’m in the minority but I HATE the need for constant “content updates” in a game. You used to be able to level up and get to 10th prestige and be done. Now with “content updates” your never done. I’d gladly spend $14.99 on just a map pack every 3 months like it used to be, rather than Activision piling on useless skins and DLC weapons. As someone who doesn’t buy the skins, seeing someone else with anime skins or a Santa Claus skin in a supposed military game takes away from the theme and direction of the game for me. What are your guys thoughts? Love the show keep up the good work.

I feel like this has probably been answered before but if you're in the middle of a gaming sesh and needed to eat something real quick, what is your go-to meal? For me, nothing beats a grilled cheese sandwich. 1 and a half slices of quality tasty cheese, a couple of thinly sliced tomatoes, salt and pepper nestled in between two slices of white bread with a generous slab of mayo on the outsides. I think this has to be the goat when you consider its effort to enjoyment ratio.

Hey guys, do you think Sony will ever have a 1st party RPG studio? Microsoft pretty much owns the majority of AAA WRPG studios. Even Nintendo has a JRPG studio with Monolith Soft. Sony's last RPG was Bloodborne 8 years ago. Made by a 3rd party studio. White Knight Chronicles was 13 years ago. Made by another 3rd party studio. Pretty much all Sony is doing these days is adding some RPG-lite elements to their action-adventure games like Horizon and God of War. Is there hope for us RPG fans? Or do we have to keep praying for more 3rd party Square-Enix AAA RPGs while looking jealously at Microsoft (Obsidian, Bethesda, Playground Games and Inxile Entertainment) and Nintendo (Monolith Soft)? It's just sad that Sony completely abandoned the RPG genre. Where are the Sony blockbuster AAA RPGs?

Hey Sacred Boiz, Later this year Death Stranding will be 4 years old, which will be over a year longer than it’s total development time. I didn’t play the game until late 2022, when my daughter was a newborn. I played much of the game while she napped and laid on my chest and I found the game profoundly moving. I now consider it one of my all time favorite games. My question is this: what do you want to see from the sequel? We haven’t heard anything since it’s announcement, and I personally have a hard time envisioning a continuation of that story. More combat? The removal of combat entirely? A new location? I’m curious your thoughts as I know you all hold the game in high regards as well. Appreciate all that you do, and I hope my daughter hearing your podcasts on a near daily basis doesn’t mess her up too bad.

Greetings Gents, Last week it was announced that Angie Smets is being promoted out of Guerilla to head of development strategy at SIE. This of course now makes her the second major executive to come from the studio (the first obviously being Hulst). Pair this with the slew of Horizon games rumored to be in development and it’s becoming clear that PlayStation considers Guerilla to be its most important studio. My question is how much of this is simply due to the fact that they are PlayStation’s biggest studio in Europe? It was heavily rumored that Jim Ryan took over after a power struggle between SIE America and SIE Europe. Jim obviously consolidated some power in Europe when promoting Hulst almost immediately. Should we consider PlayStation a European brand? Are they more likely to acquire say Ubisoft than Square because of proximity to the power center? I’m interested in everyone’s thoughts on this. Sorry for the long write-in. Love all the content, it gets me through the work week.

Hey Sacred Lads, This question is mainly for Colin; I can't help but notice that you changed your PlayStation Network ID! I've contemplated doing this since the rollout, but all of the rumoured issues put me off. So have you had any issues? Or has it all been plain sailing? Have you played any older games since the name change, mainly on Vita, PS3 or PS4? Thanks for all you do! Can't wait for you to come to England! Aleisha

Hi Sacred Crew I wondered if you had seen this story resurface this past week about Cryin Jim being a PS Vita Pets fan? I totally missed this at the time but he did an interview with the Metro newspapaer in the UK where he said "My seven-year-old loves it, please don’t be disrespectful about PlayStation Pets." I just wanted to share this with you and the audience, maybe PlayStation Pets will be the next new hit exclusive for the PSVR2! Cheers. Hey CDC, While listening to last weeks sacred symbols Colin said something which sparked an idea in my head. When talking very briefly about GTA6 Colin said “Imagine how big that’s gonna be when it officially announced” This made me think could Sony have already put out a showcase but have made an agreement with Rockstar to announce GTA 6 with them so are waiting until they’re ready? I feel this could be possible because Sony pretty much opened the PS5 showcase with GTA5. Does this make any sense to you guys or is the only response I deserve a risky fart. Stay Sacred Dave from cloudy old England

Hello Lads. I just wanted to write in to give a shout out to Dead Island 2. With Jedi: Survivor and Redfall both launching with a number of horrendous performance issues, I think Dead Island deserves some praise for how well it runs when compared to some of it's contemporaries. This is made even more impressive when you consider the games long and tortured development. My fiancé and I have been playing it co-op, and aside from some janky animations, and minor bugs, we've been having an absolute blast. Colin, I know you've shown some interest towards it in the past. Do any of you plan on checking it out? Much love from bonnie Scotland <3

Hey crew, Just wondering if you saw Kotaku's senior editor Luke Plunkett post a picture of a WW2 bomber in response to being blacklisted from covering Tears of the Kingdom, if anyone had done that at IGN would they have been fired back in the day? Also wondering on your thoughts of them doubling down on covering the leaks from the game in response to not being given proper access? Have a good one from ireland!

Hello CDC, With all of the recent discussion on cold cuts, Boars Head's high-quality meat, and our Sacred Symbols Mecca: Deli On The Circle. I wanted to inquire if any has tried getting any of the poultry products shaved vs. the standard sliced. I would almost say it's a revolutionary experience with a change in texture and taste. The deli employees at Publix that have a far-away look in their eyes probably curse me under my breath when ordering 1 lb of the Ovengold Boars Head every week. Additionally, I needed to compliment everyone at Last Stand Media on their contributions to keep thousands of fans like myself entertained and happily distracted with Constellation, Knockback, Defining Duke, and Sacred Symbols. I can only hope an occasional Nintendo show is a potential in the future. Thank You

Anonymous

Hey C’s and D’s (heyo!) Colin you’ve often mentioned the quality standard or “seal of a approval” that Nintendo used to employ back in the early days. Whether or not that really stood for anything can be debated, however, do we think Sony should lift their standard for games publishing on the PSN? Rewind back to December 2020 and anyone with two eyeballs and a thumb could have snuffed out that Cyberpunk was not ready to launch, so why did they agree to let it loose on their network? Fast forward to last week when Jedi Survivor launched to massive performance issues, screen tearing, crashes… This is certainly no doubt an indictment of EA and Respawn, but should we start pointing the finger at the platform holder? After all, this is a closed system and I believe part of the agreement for buying into a subsidized ecosystem is a certain level of quality that is blatantly being ignored and obfuscated. Should it REALLY be up to me to go out of my way to know a game performs to a certain level? Thanks for all that you do and keep caressing that sweet cock to sleep. Chicken of course, you weirdos.

Real Radec

Hey CDC, hope you three are doing well. Are we underestimating the overall casual/public interest in the Gran Turismo movie? As of writing this, the trailer has over 8.5 million views on YouTube and was actually #1 on Trending at a point. Does this say more about the appeal about Gran Turismo as a franchise, which is the best selling PlayStation series ever? Or does this prove that there is a huge casual audience that is just into cars? With the Uncharted movie making more than $400 million Worldwide do you think Gran Turismo can match that? With Twisted Metal and Gran Turismo coming soon it looks like this will be the summer of PlayStation Productions! I'm very excited to see what they do next come 2024. Thanks and take care boys.

What's the scoop on Bob Barker? Does he really give a damn about what all those things cost or is he just acting?

Hello CDC, The Game Awards are holding a concert celebrating 10 years of gaming and Hogwarts Legacy’s music is part of the lineup. Now that the dust has settled and we are approaching the mid point of the year, is Hogwarts Legacy still a capable Game of the Year contender? Thank you for a consistently amazing show!

Hello, boys. Skill Up has just called Red Fall "an absolute catastrophe of a videogame", while IGN described it as a "bafflingly bad time across the board". The triple-A release now sits at 62 on Metacritic, with a user score of 2.7. So, I guess the question is: what the hell is happening over at Xbox? The games are not being delivered in both quantity and quality, the whole Game Pass narrative is starting to crumble and console sales are mediocre when compared to PlayStation. With the real possibility of the ABK deal being blocked, what is the way forward for Microsoft?

Anonymous

Hey Big Boys, Can we just talk about the new standard being set for major third party AAA releases coming in half baked and unfinished? Jedi Survivor is almost completely unplayable for some and it seems EA/Respawn knew this and still released the game. And you can’t blame people for buying at day one after reviewers put out 9s and 10s the day before release. Something’s gotta change. As always, never stop fucking that chicken.

Dear Colin, Dustin and Chris, Xbox can't seem to catch a break... What do you think would happen to the games industry if Microsoft decided it's had enough and packs up the whole kit and caboodle? Love x

Anonymous

Hey CDC, Redfall is bad. Or at best is mid. A lot of hyperbole is going around "is this the end of Microsoft" "game over for Xbox", while I agree that this was a needed success for them and only one game on the horizon that can "save Xbox"(that being starfield obviously), we all know Microsoft isn't going anywhere and giving up a multi-million dollar foothold in a now billion dollar industry. However something clearly has to be done. Colin you have said multiple times a strong Xbox is only good for the industry and as we can see when Xbox constantly fucks up then Sony gets to rest on their laurels and we are stuck waiting for announcements. What must Xbox do to right the ship? The answer can't always be "let the game have more time", letting creatives have all the time in the world the games would never ship which is why a push from the business side is a good thing in gaming that nobody ever talks about. New leadership? Major investments in first parties? What is Sony doing so much better? Thanks for everything you all do

Anonymous

Hey gents, Do you ever see Xbox going the way of Sega and abandoning their hardware business? If the goal is to grow Game Pass, so much so that sales isn't even an important KPI for them anymore, then why bother with the costly manufacturing and distribution of Xbox's? Would removing themselves from the console environment make it easier to put Game Pass on Nintendo and Playstation platforms? I think a software-only Xbox is, not only an interesting hypothetical, but one that I think we're not too far from. Thanks and let that chicken be on top every once in a while. T. Rigatoni

Hey CDC! I want to preface this question by saying that the “console war” between Xbox and PlayStation drives me crazy, I loved my Xbox 360, and I want Xbox to do well to spur on better competition with Sony. That being said, do you think it’s possible for Xbox to get a point where Microsoft stops giving them all the money they want. After this apparent disastrous Redfall release, what happens if Starfield ends up being mediocre as well? I still have hope Starfield will be amazing, but Xbox isn’t giving many reasons to be confident in their new games these days. Is it fair to consider a world where Xbox goes away or diminishes significantly, or is that overreacting? Thanks for making the best podcast out there! - Cody

Antonio Salviano

Hello CDC, Thank you for supplying your fanbase with an abundance of content for us to ravage through whilst dithering in our mundane jobs- in my case, that of being a 36 year old Medical Student, late night delivery driver, and father of 3- and the humor and congeniality is much appreciated while I am out gallivanting the night street . I certainly love many genres of games, but I would like to discuss one much maligned yet popular genre- sports games. To me, sports games are often a mix of simulation and an extended avenue into RPG's. Sacred Sales saga has brought to bear the sheer importance of these titles in our industry, and perhaps they could be addressed in a Sacred Symbols+ episode. I don’t claim this as an original idea, but many outlets and podcasts almost completely ignore this integral part of our industry. I could imagine an annual conversation about the state of sports games. It could include new multiplayer modes, player careers, trading card systems, and even user sliders and rosters for enhancing the Franchise and gameplay experience. For example, NBA 2k23 may have earned my title of GOAT sports game due to ERAs, which breaks down possible franchises in the 80's, 90's and 00's. This includes realistic presentations of each era and and is levied by custom user rosters and gameplay sliders to further differentiate each distinct era. Much love to the entire Sacred family, and thank you for your consideration.

Greetings Sacred Hosts, How the fuck does Phil Spencer still have this job? Thank you,

Hey CDC, On last week's episode, Chris said that the Nintendo Switch's controllers feel terrible. And while the Joy-Cons are truly a blight upon mankind, have you used the Switch Pro controller? It's shaped similar to an Xbox controller with offset sticks, and the face buttons are so big and chunky. The shoulder buttons are comfortable and soft to the touch. If it weren't for the digital triggers I'd consider using it as my main controller for PC, but I look forward to using it for Tears of the Kingdom. Speaking of which, can we expect to hear discussions of Tears of the Kingdom on Sacred Symbols?

Hello boys, Is Jim Ryan playing 4-D chess? We often talk about the absence of news hurting playstation, but in reality, it has just amplified all the missteps xbox has taken. Why talk if you don't need to.

Hey CDC, With the absolute shit show that is Redfall and the complete and total failure of studios to think they can churn out live service games seems like it spells disaster for our gaming future. It's a relic of 5 years ago when live service games were starting to make money and all these projects were greenlit. Are you as worried as I am that the majority of the output of Sony first party is going to be throwaway crap? Is there time for them to see that this forcing of everything to be looter gearscore coop garbage is being rejected by gamers and go a different direction? I'm worried and sad that we will not be getting as many great single player games because of it. Thanks, Mike

Ryan Guldner

Greetings boys, With the release of redfall and gloom and doom for xbox, many xbox podcast have called for xbox to buy up big exclusives third party. My question is if xbox is even able to do that in their current state hence the acquisitions desperately. With between xbox/PS overwhelming sales 85/15 most times come from the PS side and any deal with xbox will have to be on gamepass. With lack of sales on xbox and missed on ps as well as an increase in players at a lower cost, my thought is it would be much to massive a cost for xbox to do as a game like hogwarts would probably cost them a billion and more to do or more than 1/3rd of gamepass’s revenue annually. Even a lessor big game could be hundreds of millions of dollars which i can not see possible. My question is what is even xbox’s current power in the third party market these days and what do you think they will do moving forward, as another example shows they struggle to make content themselves

Bill The Brick

Dear CDC, Long time, first time! This is a question more aimed at games media as a whole, but I've just finished watching the Kinda Funny interview with Phil Spencer about the Redfall fallout. I've seen various media types praise Phil and Kinda Funny for not holding anything back on either side, but from my personal view, the entire thing was filled with softball questions, and the very small amount that could be considered remotely "difficult" were immediately met with blatant corporate speak from Phil. I'm only using Phil, Kinda Funny, and Redfall as an example as it's the most recent instance, but this sort of thing is happening more and more where so-called journalists are patting each other on the back for doing absolutely nothing other than the bare minimum. In my mind, this interview would've been booked in for weeks, but if not, why would Phil (and by extension Microsoft) even have it go ahead without the questions being "vetted"? It leaves me with two main questions. Firstly, how does a game like Redfall get past the management sign-off? There's nothing that can convince me that Xbox management looked at the game and said, "Yeah sure, looks good, ship it!". Secondly, does the games industry need to be more transparent about its failings? All publishers are so quick to advertise their successes (and often try to make failing look like a success by speaking about meaningless numbers such as total player counts rather than MAUs), but if the industry wants to mature the way that people across the board are suggesting it should, surely genuine transparency is a key factor? Thanks for all of the great content you push out.
