In September of 2018, one of the biggest PlayStation games of all-time -- Insomniac's Spider-Man -- came to PlayStation 4. Along with its '1.5-style' follow-up Miles Morales, the fledgling franchise has sold somewhere in the neighborhood of 40 million copies, and it seems like the original's direct sequel will launch five years to the month of its street date, in September of 2023. Word comes by way of the loose-lipped voice actor playing Venom, who would absolutely and obviously know these details in preparation for his press tour, so we believe what he says to be true, and it all begs the singular question: When will we see more? I’m super happy to hear Colin enjoying Octopath 2. I finished all 8 stories on Wednesday at the 72 hour mark. Ochette was my favorite character. It’s my GOTY so far. What an incredible game. Combat, characters, stories and the fucking music is just beautiful.

I don't really know about Destiny, but I feels like Lance Reddick is way harder to replace in Horizon. The character was his face, his voice. He was integral to the whole thing, the plot and everything. And Sylens was almost written out by the end of Horizon Forbidden West, so I guess they could say he had a change of mind, but still it sucks.

If Sony hadnt said they couldnt develop a COD competitor months ago (while their making zero efforts to), then Microsoft wouldnt have said 10 years is long enough to do it. I feel like this show is taking what Microsoft is saying too seriously considering both sides are just saying whatever will benefit them, and we all know it.

The AAA discussion is interesting. I still think it boils down to how you define "AAA". Does AAA status rely on budget and cost of marketing? In that case it's hard to definitively say which games are and aren't as we very rarely get the numbers spent. It's often estimations. Does AAA statue require a minimum run time? Would a 4 hour slice of God of War Ragnarok still be considered AAA? Does AAA mean that we have full production values, voice acting, top tier animations etc. That would certainly rule out Zelda and a lot of Nintendo games in general. Is AAA just a game released by a Major Publisher at 60/70 bucks? I don't know the answers to any of this but I think a lot of clashing comes from people having a different idea of what exactly AAA is. Interesting to ponder though. Great episode 👏

It felt so good to hear Dustin validate my feelings about the Hitman episodic releases. I was actually disappointed when they announced that all the Locations for Hitman 2 would be released all at the same time. The episodic releases allowed me to really savor and master each location.

As far as a Sony shooter, anyone remember all those new studios formed about a year or two ago that mentioned they were working with Sony? many didn't have much to show outside of to say "we are making a shooter". Think it's about time we saw a trailer or two for some of them at the next big playstation show. I think there were at least 2 or 3 devs/games announced. I'm excited to see what they've got

Colin, I've only played a few JRPGs. I started Chained Echoes but didn't absolutely love it (story seemed cool though). Do you think I would like Octopath more? Which one do you prefer? I was pissed I let the first one slip off gamepass before I could play it

You're correct. Deviation Games (ex-Treyarch devs) and Firewalk (ex-Bungie and Guerrilla Games) announced partnerships with Sony. Both studios are working on shooters.

i'm *super* stoked for the horizon dlc, and i'll be in on day 1. i ran through the campaign of forbidden west in 4 days because i wanted to be completely done with it for elden ring, so i'm wanting to actually take my time with this and savor it and enjoy it. i think horizon is the best ip sony has at the moment, so i'm very excited.

re: immersive gaming and distractions, for years my phone has been set to all social notifications off. full stop. the only notifications i get on my phone are for texts, phone calls, and email. email is set to only show me the badge notifications. banners are disabled. and much like colin my phone is usually on so not disturb anyway, which is a bad habit i got into with ios 12 because on that os you would still get banner and badge notifications if your phone screen was on while in do not disturb, so if i opened my phone i could still see text badges on dnd. but now dnd is the same as sleep mode. 🫤

No ps 5 version of starfield and redfall cool then something was up and the delays were due to Xbox knowing that these games have so much more pressure because if the games bomb what else do they have. I feel Arkane is stuck.

Similar to the "no pause" during cutscenes ridiculousness is "no skip" to songs in games. The new need for speed came out and there was no way to skip songs which drove me crazy. It got patched 4 or 5 months later I believe.
