Hey All!

Hey Duke's, A year ago there were rumours that WB were looking to sell the games division to recoup some of it's debt, since then they've released moderate successes in Gotham knights and Lego Star wars, had huge buzz and player counts with multiverses (although that has dropped lately) and now a critical and commercial hit with hogwarts legacy. Also this year they will release suicide squad kills the justice league and we already know there is a wonder woman game in development at Monolith and a rumoured new mortal Kombat. With it's recent success do you think WB will now be reinvigorated and see the value in its game studios/IP and really push it's gaming division as a core part of their plans going forward? Safe travels to cog, and Matty sometimes it's ok to turn it down to 10.

Hey Dukes no question this week, just wanted to wish Cog the best for the live show. Good luck with your Elden Ring presentation 🤣 and wish Matty a speedy recovery and hope you get your health where it needs to be in 2023. I won't make it to the show either. Unfortunately I'm on the wrong side of the Atlantic! Looking forward to the VOD. Thanks as always fellas. Peace! Lee

Hey Dukes, Analysis from outlets like Digital Foundry have shown that many recent AAA titles have better technical performance on PS5 than Xbox Series X. For example, Xbox Series versions of Hogwarts Legacy, Calisto Protocol, and Monster Hunter Rise have all lagged behind the PS5 versions in terms of image quality or framerate stability. With the Xbox being the more powerful console on paper, do you think this is more of an issue of amount of resources developers are putting into Xbox ports, or do you think there is a more systematic issue with the Xbox architecture that makes these problems more difficult to resolve on Xbox? Should Microsoft being providing developers more technical assistance to make sure games run best on Xbox, especially when they are featured on Game Pass? Thanks and hope you have a “There’s so many games releasing that even my business decisions need business decisions” kind of day.

Hey Dukes, I just noticed Xbox raised their prices for the series consoles. Do you guys think this will keep happening in other regions? It's been odd to see price increases instead of discounts this late into a generation. Have a awesome day gentlemen!

My fine dukes! Hope you’re both doing well! This week my write in is about Fallout 4. Last year Bethesda announced a free next gen update coming for consoles and pc. To my knowledge we haven’t heard much regarding details or a release date. I’ve written in before about my dad and his journey through various RPG bangers since his retirement. He had a blast in the Mass Effect Legendary edition as well as Fallout 3. He’s been holding off on starting fallout 4 as I told him he should maybe wait for this update. Can y’all shed any light on it? Any industry secrets about it you could spill? Come on, do it for dad! :) Best Regards, Andrew M

Greetings Dukes! VGC just dropped news that Microsoft will be raising Series X costs in Sweden to $599 putting their flagship consoles price above the PS5 in the region. I previously attempted to justify their increase in Japan due to currency exchange rates but am now left with the feeling that Microsoft is trying to rip the bandaid off slowly. Do you think we'll see the broader EU see increases? Let me know

Howdy Gentlemen! Hope all is well and hope y’all get to try some great Texas barbecue when y’all are in town. Steam reviews used to be a place I could trust for honest and accurate feedback on any game. But I’ve noticed a trend lately where it feels like most triple A or better known titles are often flooded with negative reviews based on the performance of the game. While some can be justified due to a bad PC port, I’m starting to think most of these are a case of dudes trying to run the game on ultra/high with inadequate hardware. Games like Marvels Midnight Suns, Returnal, and Hogwarts Legacy had a lot of negative reviews due to performance but I bought all of these games day 1 and had no issues. Reviews based solely on performance should not hold as much weight as they do unless it’s something game breaking that all who buy the game can replicate. I think it’s time to implement a review system that can be broken up into Gameplay and Performance. Or maybe just make it a requirement to list your PC specs if you want to leave a review. What do y’all think about a review system that would function like that? Take care y’all and don’t drink that purple stuff when y’all are down here!

Hey Dukes, Long time listener and new patreon member here. Even after all the recent Redfall coverage lately I still don't find myself interested in the game. I've enjoyed all of Arkane's previous games, so why wouldn't I enjoy this one as well? I then remembered that I've never actually been hyped for any of their games prerelease. All those games that I ended up loving, I went into only because everyone else kept saying they was good, not because of of my own excitement. So my question is is there any games/genres/studios etc. that never appeal to you, but when you actually play you always end up enjoying it. Have a "My microwave accidentally turned my oreos into a pornhub scene" kind of day. PS: I was a new light in Destiny this time last year right before Witch Queen dropped. 600 in-game hrs later I gotta say this is now in my top 5 franchises of all time.

Afternoon, Dukes. I know the Game Pass discussion has been endless, but the developers I'd be more interested in hearing from are those unable to get their games on the service. Sure, if a dev can get their costs covered by Microsoft that's awesome, but does the existence of services like Game Pass make smaller games harder to sell a-la-cart? Even larger titles like Death's Door had people on the fence, wishing it was in Game Pass. Can a $15-$25 game survive if people think they can get a similar experience "for free"? Certainly not within the Xbox ecosystem, so what percentage of market-share does Game Pass need to stay below for small indies, whose games don't make the service, to survive? This is the angle I'm more interested in. Thanks, and have a "I just beat God of War Ragnarok and Plague Tale Requim in the same week, and am appalled that Charlotte McBurney didn't win Best Performance" kind of day.

Good Day Duke Duo! I have a game to gut check you gents on, but first. Matty, I keep your health in my thoughts daily and hope your recovery is on an upswing, while we get closer to the live show here in my city I think it’s appropriate to say you will definitely be sorely missed. I personally wanted to attend because your entry seemed to be quite divisive when you'd hint at it, and it effectively sold the tickets for me. Hope you do have a small PowerPoint for us. That said, I’d like both of you to chime in about Scars Above! It’s style is Returnal at a glance, and while it is multi platform (PC, PlayStation and Xbox thus far) does it appeal to either of you? Should Xbox grab it as a push for their own Third Person Space Shooter? It’s slated for release this year and Xbox still has time to throw the GP bag! Let us know, and have a “Wo Long” kind of day ;)

Mr. Scott If You're Nasty

Dukes! Love the show, keep it up. A recent Tom's Guide article raved about the PSVR2 and urged Microsoft to make a competing product. I'd love to hear your thoughts on the idea, but I will give you my take. I would rather see a Last Stand Swimsuit Calendar production than have Microsoft waste their time on a VR product, given the current state of the tech. Have a I'm going to blowtorch an oreo because why the hell not kind of day

Hey dukes have you ever put a splash of water on the toilet paper before wiping? A more clutch wipe I cannot ask for. Sounds crazy I know. But think of washing your arm. Are ya just gunna go at it with nothing but dry paper? Thanks #Misko1023

Hello Dukes, 2023 has had an outstanding start in terms of game quality with hits like Hi-Fi Rush, Hogwarts Legacy, and Dead Space. Add in all the announced games for the rest of 2023 and you have an absolutely stacked year for games. What are the games you think will end up get forgotten at year end with game of the year discussions? Thanks and have an outstanding day.

Hey dukes! With the Lightfall expansion for destiny quickly approaching, are we gonna finally see Matty take a dive into Cogs world? And Matty if you do play lightfall, could we see some content on the main channel with a guest appearance of our lovely Cog? Love the show guys and I hope you have a “ hoeg showed up on the BitCast for a surprise appearance” kind of day.

Captain Bon Clay

Howdy dukes! Matty congrats on yet another viral review in atomic heart! I’ve heard a lot of opinions on the game but one thing I haven’t heard anyone’s opinion on was mick Gordon’s sound track! How did you like it? Also any chance at a spoiler cast?

Hey Dukes, With Xbox making it official that they will be bringing Call of Duty and select Xbox titles to Nintendo Platforms it got me thinking about what games would fit perfectly on the Switch. Surely a game like Pentiment would feel right at home, but imagine being able play the Master Chief Collection at anywhere any time natively on a handheld. What games would you like to see Xbox bring to the Switch? Best, Sean M.

Hey Dukes, Kazuya. Mishima. … that’s it that the comment. Have a “call of duty struggling to get 30 frames on Nintendos old ass hardware” kind of day.

Hey Dukes! Just a comment on this Nintendo/Call of Duty Xbox deal. I’ve seen lots of people online saying we need a new switch now because there’s no way the switch could run COD. Do these people forget every new Call of Duty entry runs on day one PS4’s and Xbox Ones? With this in mind I think the switch will run COD fine, not saying I don’t want a new switch but if these nearly decade old consoles can run MW2, I’m sure the 6 year old switch can run it too. With this in mind when do you think COD (and hopefully all 1st and 3rd party games) will go only current gen (XSX and PS5)? Does this shift back a bit as the Switch is likely the new lowest common denominator? Nearly three years into this console generation one has to imagine the time for the ps4 and xbone has past. I’d love to hear your thoughts on this, have A “I just told Colin The Last of Us 2 is the most overrated game of all time, and now I fear for my life” kind of day.

Hey Double Dukes, I just picked up Atomic Heart and am personally having a fun time with it, but while talking about it with some friends we got talking about the dialogue, which is when I revealed that I actually decided to play the game with the original Russian audio rather than the English dub, which surprised everyone in the group who decided to play in English. This makes me wonder, when you’re playing a game with multiple audio options do you guys usually go with English or stick to the original language? I’ve always stuck with the original audio personally, but I understand when others say they would rather play in their native language. Thanks and have a “friend refusing to try Yakuza because there’s no dub” kind of day.

Dookie Boys! With the Call of Duty to Switch announcement once again said by President of Microsoft, Brad Smith, is this basically confirming that they expect the deal to go through? In addition, his post reads “We’ve now signed a binding 10-year contract to bring Xbox games to Nintendo’s gamers.” Could we really see more than just COD on Nintendo? Will we finally see Master Chief on a different platform? 👀 Thanks and have a “Mundfish, why you making these feminine robots kinda sexy type of day”

Hey, Dukes! My girlfriend is a huge Halo fan and while I was playing Dead Space remake, she said that the necromorphs reminded her of the Flood. This got me thinking, do you think the designers of the original Dead Space took inspiration from Halo? I had never played Halo before, but she showed gameplay of the Flood and I understood what she was talking about. Anyways, have a great day!

Hey Dukes. Loving the podcast. Keep em coming. Whilst I appreciate you are both tired of the Activision Blizzard acquisition discussion, I think there is one 'newish' topic that's not been discussed that much. We've all heard about the culture challenges within the Activision business. We've also seen that Microsoft has had issues shipping games in a consistent fashion this generation. I don't agree with the charges of 'mismanagement' claims that some throw around about how Microsoft manages its studios - but would like to see more consistency of delivery. One of my concerns (if the acquisition goes through) is that Microsoft becomes so consumed with fixing Activision that it becomes distracted from other opportunities - whether those are other (smaller) acquisitions, securing much needed pop culture IP (looking at you Star Wars, DC and Marvel), shipping core first party games. Another huge opportunity is making the most out of struggling or forgotten XBOX IP - a revitalized Halo, Halo Wars 3, Killer Instinct sequel, Wolfenstein 3 etc. Whilst the revenue boost of acquiring Activision is undeniable, the Xbox leadership team is taking on a big project with this acquisition. Executive bandwidth and ability to retain oversight are finite resources for any company, even Microsoft. Successfully onboarding Activision will take up time and focus from the Xbox leadership team (even if they can delegate some things to HR, ops teams etc). Is there a danger that Xbox acquires Activision and becomes distracted from the many other areas that need laser focus in these critical years for Xbox? Given the acquisition doesn't do much for XBox exclusivity, does the revenue and IP haul get outweighed by the opportunity cost in other areas? Is this a meal that's too big to digest fast enough? Whilst Xbox has tons of great games coming in 2023 and beyond, it's looking like Sony's approach of marketing games as if they are exclusive to PS5, and securing big massmarket IPs like Spiderman and Wolverine continues to keep it safely in that no 1 leadership position. I'm a big fan of Microsoft and Sony, so am sharing this question as someone who sees pros and cons to both companies' strategies. Thanks and have a 'wouldn't it be amazing if Microsoft and Sega co-produced a remake of Panzer Dragoon Saga' kind of day. Best wishes, Captain Hero

Hey Hi-Fi Dukes, With how high quality the past few weeks in gaming has been, which game has stood out the most for you two? Between Hi-Fi Rush, Dead Space Remake, Metroid Prime Remastered and HogLeg, it's genuinely hard to pick between them. Have a 'Cog's gotta get those joysticks cleaned' kinda day.

Michael Limauro

Hey dukes, With Last Case of Ben Fox and redfall slated for late April and early may respectively, what are your expectations for game pass after wo long? Do you think Silksong has a shot to hit in April, or is there another game you think will keep game pass hot in that timeframe? Thanks boys.

Hey Dukes, Please answer yes or no on which kinds of Xbox games will make it on Nintendo platforms: - Cloud versions of the latest Call of Duty games - Call of Duty Mobile - Random mobile games from King - All Minecraft games - Smaller Xbox games that weren't huge commerical hits like As Dusk Falls or Pentiment well after their PC/Xbox launch - Smaller Xbox games that were smash hits like HiFi Rush well after their PC/Xbox launch - Age of Empires 2 Definitive Edition - Ports of old flagship Xbox games that like Halo CE, Fable, or Gears of War - More Bethesda ports like Skyrim for Elder Scrolls and Fallout - Cloud versions of the newest Xbox games like Starfield, Hellblade and the new Fable

DarkRod99

Hey Dukes It looks like Doom Guy is coming to mobile devices with a "new game". Didn't Mighty Doom was released before, or am I mistaken? What do you make of this game, is this a good step for Microsoft into entering to the mobile market? And what other franchises from Xbox could benefit Microsoft having it on Mobile? Have a "I wish I could have enough time to play all these games coming out" kind of day.

Well with Microsoft pinning Sony into a corner & humiliating them in Brussels this week, the deal is basically done & obviously going through. With that all said what do you guys expect to see from ABK+Xbox say in the fall next year? Please have a “Please bring back Guitar Hero kind of day”

Howdy there Duke boys! And greetings from Sapporo! Im originally from Osaka (currently reside in the states) and I visited my girlfriend in Sapporo last week, The weather was a whopping -18 in Sapporo and -23 to -25 Celsius in Otaru when I visited. It was so cold my eyebrows and eyelashes froze over. Though the citizens here (including my girlfriend) are so used to the cold that they walk around with long skirts or tights in this weather. Including the school students. As someone who’s from a warmer climate in general (both Osaka and LA), my body and mind couldn’t even fathom the extreme cold to the point where I just stopped feeling “cold” because my brain couldn’t even process it. And when I came back to LA it feels a lot colder here despite being a lot warmer. Has this ever happened to you guys? What is the coldest weather you’ve been in and what were your first reactions and how did you handle it? Thanks as always and Have a “Sneaky Ron’s” kinda day!

Hey Dukes did you see the meme the President of Activision posted after the Brussels talks, she totally dragged Cryin Ryan through the dirt. She’s so savage, I think it’s safe to say PlayStation isn’t getting COD anymore, that bridge has officially been burned
