One of PlayStation Portable's very best games came in the form of a 2008 Final Fantasy VII spin-off called Crisis Core. While it wasn't the first new product spawned from FFVII, it was certainly the strongest, telling the story of Zack Fair, a character we don't know a whole lot about in the main game, but someone who's intimately involved in the early portions of VII' lore. Thankfully, the once-stranded title has migrated to PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 -- basically remade from the ground-up -- in the form of Crisis Core Reunion, and we're eager to talk about it. Because it's really awesome! To help, I (Colin) enlisted the help of our EP, Dustin, but also of The Washington Post's Gene Park, who was kind enough to take some time out of his schedule to join us and chat. So sharpen that Buster Sword, friends, and prepare to prove your honor, flip phone in-hand.

Wonderful game, and a breath of fresh air from the deluge of open world games. Can't wait for FF7 Rebirth after finishing this.

O

I remember getting to the door before you fight genesis and I had no idea how to find 2 of the 9ish materia to open the door on the psp version but I was finally able to finish this yesterday because of the rerelease and man while I knew what happened to Zack it still hit me like a ton of bricks yesterday. Once again awesome job with this spoilercast.

Loved the show and love hearing Gene on these. I found the discussion around where Reunion fits into the overall FF7 canon interesting. I was also surprised that they didn’t include some scene alluding to the events at the end of Remake.
