Capcom's Monster Hunter is a years-long smash hit, but it really hit its stride on PS4 with Monster Hunter World, Capcom's best-selling game ever. So it was mysterious when Monster Hunter Rise was launched on Switch (and later PC), but never on PlayStation. Rumor has it that's all about to change. Rise is apparently due for PS4 and PS5 very soon -- in perhaps a month and a half -- and with it comes the promise of high-quality hunting not yet seen on PS5, a genre gap Capcom rival Electronic Arts was hoping to fill with its Omega Force-developed Wild Hearts (which it had no doubt hoped would go uncontested, but no longer will). Thus, we've much to discuss. PlayStation also released interesting new updates for its tournament structure, as well as Stars, new PS+ games have been revealed, scant details about Peacock's Twisted Metal TV series have been unearthed, and more. Then: Listener inquiries! Why doesn't Sony include New Game+ at launch with all first and second party titles? What game has the saddest opening ever? Which character is the current 'Face of PlayStation'? Is alliteration the most powerful determinant of a good name?

The Great Santini

Dude I’m so HAPPY RISE is coming to PS5! I enjoyed World so much as my first hunting game.

Marc Cairney

Hey guys! Great episode. Where do you fart had me in stitches. Also re new games. I still don’t understand why people buy games day 1. You play the worst version of these new games. These days I’d rather just wait for a GOTY edition or something resembling a complete game.

Mark Whittington

Spoiler culture is terrible these days, if you haven't absorbed a new bit of media within 12 hours of it coming out, you're dodging spoilers everywhere from twitter posts to newspaper headlines.

I really likes one of the concepts emphasized by Hoeg re: The Activision acquisition- Sony is in a difficult in that they currently have and have maintained for many years a significant lead position in the console market space. They seem to be arguing that their competition owning the most popular annual game will irrevocably affect and/or compromise THEIR position as #1 in that space. It is not material to this case that PlayStation might slip into position #2 in the console market space. Playstation must essentially prove to regulators that CoD being sold to their competitor will inevitably lead to the PlayStation brand's dissolution. Sony being led into 2nd place in the market is not a valid argument against a willing transaction between two companies.

If Sony was smart, they would have released the original God of War games on its premium service during the release of Ragnarok. I would also include the Psp games due to their story relevance.

Great music choices from y’all, especially Tool and Deftones! Colin if you like The Pot by Tool, check out Maynard’s other band Puscifer. They have a song called The Remedy. I think you’ll fall in love with it. They’re amazing in concert too. My favorite band to see live. I recommend taking acid or coke to enhance the experience 🤘🏻

LastStandMedia

The argument is salient, though, because what Sony is saying is that they earned the position without economic might. And they're right.

Jack Sibert

But that's only true if you frame it favorably to Sony. An investment is an investment. Sonys invests in smaller studios in hopes that they can flip a profit. Microsoft invests in larger studios in hopes to make a profit.

Great episode as always. Don’t think Dustin seemed too pleased about being chased up on getting his thumb sorted. I guess he’ll do it when he really needs to! Looking forward to next couple of weeks and hearing what you guys think of Callisto Protocol once you’ve had chance to play it.

LastStandMedia

I don't care what Dustin thinks, he should get that shit sorted out or he will regret it later.

Sam Lee

I'm very proud of my monkey brain for not visualizing Donald Duck getting fucked by a man in a duck suit.

Mason Kent

Joking about the drugs by the way. Don’t want to lose any Last Stand hosts from my poor attempt at humor lol cocaine is horrible for you.

Mason Kent

Your brain is better than mine wish I never heard that scenario

Lou & Rei Loper

Signed in PURELY to tell Chris...any past transgressions are immediately forgotten, Deftones forever. My favorite band without QUESTION since '96.

Greg Hommel

I don’t think you guys are too negative, but I don’t think you represent PlayStation as much as you should. Colin seems to hold back and earnestly avoid excitement, Dustin seems truly indifferent, and Chris seems to lean negative regarding the brand. The Duke boys have fun, represent, throw shots, and cheerlead sometimes. Never hitting “fanboy” levels. You can be positive about PlayStation whilst also being honest and discerning. Sometimes exposition is stifled because nobody is excited enough to delve any deeper, which is the only actual detriment to the listeners.
