Following a major network outage for Xbox, the rumors of Xbox Everywhere hit a little different. While an all digital future has much promise, as spotlighted in our last DDU, knowing how easily all of that could vanish calls us back to the table for an incidental part two to this discussion. Is a smart TV app or streaming puck worth this dive to an all or nothing approach to Game Pass and its boons?

Been waiting on this episode! Listening now!

DRM is never going away…..obviously every gamepass game will need DMR. The pros far outweigh the cons of one outage every year or two. If it’s a dealbreaker for anyone they should probably go back to Atari or Nintendo

If you own a digital copy of the Metal Gear 2+3 collection, can you not uninstall it and install it again? I know it got listed off of the store for sale. Does that stop downloads of purchased copies?

Michael

This is such a complacent answer. It’s not wrong to expect better, especially when a company is pushing its audience in a certain direction.

That’s my point this is the first tech issue Xbox has had in 2 years and it actually did not effect me at all tech issues are unfortunate hopefully they happen even less….. but the benefits I get from Xbox are just on another level for me that I don’t care

Kind of disappointed to see a rehashed topic this week. Your guys's digital concerns while valid have already been well documented. It just feels like a cross of having nothing to talk about and fear-mongering. Digital is and has been the future for almost all mediums. An outtage occured, it sucks, but cell towers have gone down before too. It doesn't mean we should demand we stick to using landlines. Love ya both! Sorry to come off negative, but you guys have interesting minds and there are certainly more enjoyable/fun topics to be discussed!

Talks like this make me miss the times when consoles were just boxes you put discs in and it worked. Listening to people complain for years about no netflix on switch was just hilarious for me. Like Netflix is on literally everything. I haven't turned a console on for streaming in years. Consoles should go back to just playing games and that's it. No drm no other bullshit. Just gaming

Hey Maddie the Sony 900h updated to have VRR. Just make sure you turn it on.

Just configured my Xbox as my "home xbox" today -- allows me to play digital games offline. I didn't realize this was something you had to go find on your own. That should be the default when you first setup the console. Certain things like quick resume don't work offline, but at least I can still boot up most of my installed games (unless there is some drm shenanigans like with hitman).
