For PlayStation 5's launch, Sony did something cool and unexpected: They gave away 20 of some of their most-acclaimed PS4 games for free to PlayStation Plus subscribers. Indeed, as long as you're playing on PS5, you can still mark-for-download and play these 20 same games right now. And they're some of the console's very best, from both the first and third party. In fact, it could be argued (as we often do on the show) that this anthology's value rivals GamePass merely on the question of quality (though certainly not quantity). With that, we thought we'd sit down and go over these 20 games, many of them iconic in their own right, ordering them from 'worst' to 'best' while trying to keep to a rather nebulous set of parameters, like said game's importance to PlayStation as a brand, or its overall quality and critical consensus. The result, we think, is an interesting conversation you're likely to enjoy a great deal. So please do.

Gotta tell ya, these Sacred Symbols + and the main show are nothing but absolute bangers. Always makes my week when a new one drops.

The collection is amazing for people new to the ecosystem. If you've already been gaming on PlayStation, you probably already played most of these games, and since the ps plus collection never updates, it's considered less useful than GamePass by a mile for core gamers.

Playing through Arkham Knight for the first time since I got a PS5 via the PS Plus Collection. Can confirm the bat tank is a total fun suck from start to where I am at, ~8 hours in. It feels like a goofy arcade thing and takes me away from what I loved about the on foot exploration, combat and stealth of Arkham Asylum, a game in my top 50 all time. I want to be Batman not a batmobile. And I also agree with Dustin, this game does not look so stunning today. Good character models but the environment is already dated.

Only about 17 or so minutes in and loving the conversation. I personally am a Call of Duty fan, especially when it comes to Treyarch’s games. The Black Ops 3 chat never noted that it includes the Zombies Chronicles DLC which was for months the best selling DLC on PSN and for good reason. It includes many remastered Zombies maps from previous Treyarch games and are still excellent maps to this day. With that being said I would have ranked it higher on the list, but of course to each his own! Thanks always for the great content.

As someone who hadn't owned a PlayStation since the PS1 until I got a PS5 last Spring, the inclusion of this collection was immensely valuable to me, specifically for the exclusives that I never had the opportunity to play previously. I often hear people downplay its value, but I feel they are only looking at it from their own personal perspective of a veteran PS gamer, and not of those new to PS or others who missed out on a lot of these games. I just started TLOU1 for the first time last night, and I'm excited to continue playing.

The PS collection rules! This episode was a really neat idea! As much as I love the interviews (truly, they’re excellent), it’s nice to break up the flow every so often.

Fun talk, really enjoyed it! A couple of my takes: - I think Mortal Kombat might make more sense than SFV because it has a much more robust single player experiences. SFV has an abysmal single player experience, and I can't imagine jumping into the multiplayer at this point (you would get destroyed most certainly). (I say this as somebody who does not play Mortal Kombat) - I agree 100% with Dustin on Persona 5. As a lover of JRPGs that has not gotten around to it, I was so excited when I saw it was part of the collection, and then super bummed when I saw it was not the Royal version. Felt like a total slap in the face. No way I am playing a 100 hour game twice, and I am not going to play the inferior version. - I am very disappointed that Sony has not spent the time/money to make sure some of these games are updated to take advantage of PS5 hardware. Thanks for keeping me entertained!

Great episode! The collection was a nice addition for PS5 owners and gave a lot of people an entryway to a new franchise. FFXV and Persona 5 were my first times playing either series and made a new fan out of me. Also digging the shirt Colin! Love me a Guinness Extra Stout from time to time.

Colin, I have one plat. Bloodborne. It’s SUCH an easy, fun, straightforward plat. We’re in a lull until horizon. Play through Bloodborne. You’ll fly through it since you got so far the first time.

Haven't finished yet, so I don't know if Dustin made the point. The PlayStation Plus collection is amazing for newcomers. No denying it. It might also be better than Gamepass for some. But for myself (and possibly the majority), I already owned all the games I would have been interested in. So there is zero value to me. On the flip side Gamepass is adding new games (some great) all the time. Games that I wanted that I don't have to buy now, games that I wouldn't have tried, but gave a shot anyway (some end up good!). Gamepass is the winner for me.

Last Guardian > Shadow? Holy shit, this guy fucks :D You're right Dustin, I think there are people who either love it or hate it. And I really hate it. That being said, it's incredible how much interesting and valuable content you guys do. I always look forward to the podcast or these Plus episodes.

I came here in hopes to raise awareness to Colin about a game called “Infernax”, I just watched the trailer on PlayStation’s YouTube channel and it looks like something very much in your wheelhouse. That’s it, cheers.

Playstation Plus collection is awesome and definitely has some games i wanna play/undeniably good. But gamepass right now has: Back 4 Blood, Mass Effect Trilogy, Halo, Aliens: FIreteam Elite, etc. PS plus may have 7 or 8 of the top 10 games lets say, but I think they're too many solid-rather good titles on gamepass to give it the edge.

Ah yea you're right about the Arkham franchise being tied to PlayStation Colin, it goes back to Asylum having exclusive Joker DLC. Thanks for a great episode.

Ryan Zimm

Just finished. And yup. Dustin's last comment made my same point. Lol. I agree with your #1. God of War and Uncharted 4 would round out my top 3

As fan of Persona 5 I absolutely love the idea of people playing both games. But I will say Royal is hands down the better experience, so ifColin only has time to play one it should be Royal. As far as trophies, I have both and don’t regret it, but Persona 5 requires two playthroughs and you have to max everything in tight timeline. Whereas for Persona Royal the platinum is achieved in one playthrough and the trophies are much easier. For instance, you don’t have to max out all confidants (although with the additional days this is easy to accomplish). Trophies is the #1 reason to play Royal instead.

The PS+ Collection is amazing and showcases for the most part, Sony's commitment to quality. As a competitor to Gamepass I'm a bit hesitant only because many of the third party titles have at some point been in Xbox's service, on top of the fact that Gamepass is constantly getting more drops. Honestly, the PS+ Collection just makes me more excited for PlayStation's equivalent to gamepass in Spartacus

Mario Villelli

I think one of main reason's for Black ops 3 being on the list is because its the definitive zombies game with it having nearly all the zombie maps in the past. And as well is the peak of the zombies series and the end of the storyline.

LastStandMedia

This is why I think they need to cycle their games a little bit, keep things fresh and interesting, particularly from the third party front. They may not want to fight on the new game front, and I don't blame them... but having those evergreen titles available for free is a nice buttress to PS+.

Levelupbrady

Okay, from what I understand the original Persona 5 is harder to platinum than P5 Royal. So I think Colin would appreciate the platinum from P5 more than Royal. But yes Royal is a better game. Friends of mine don't hold the Royal platinum in high regard, unlike the original.

Playstation described in this video as the 'home of call of duty' - a lot changes in a week!
