Hot takes ahoy! Matty and Cog have played a lot in a year that has often been referred to as a “down year for video games.” As always there are lists of games to sift through, but the Dukes shed their lists down to the top five of the very best and worst this year had to offer us. We promise these lists will shock, amaze, stun, and disappoint.

Metroid Dread has my personal GOTY. The critical path very much flowed naturally and interestingly like Super Metroid. The only downside was that certain bosses in the second half of the game are used over and over again.

I still strongly disagree that this was a "down year for games." The diversity in genes and creativity was astounding. There was no "God of war" or "Witcher 3"but a year doesn't need one of those to be a good gaming year.

My favorite games this year were probably little nightmares 2, Inscryption and Returnal. Also enjoyed Re8, Ratchet and Clank and Deathloop

Fantastic episode, gents! As someone who joined the Last Stand Media crew this year, I’ve thoroughly enjoyed Defining Duke, along with Cog’s input — such a fantastic addition to the team. It made me tear up hearing you both show love to each other, it’s the sign of a solid duo. Thanks for a great year of content — onto 2022!

How we not gonna shout out Rick Hoeg for the 0/10 12minutes review!

Yeah for sure. We didn't have those crazy home runs, but I thought the release cadence for good games this year was brilliant. I never felt like I didn't have something new to play

I have no history with xbox so don't follow week to week but love the wider episodes- you are both very knowledgeable and entertaining - keep up the great work. Though for a moment I thought Cog was going to choose Habroxia 2 when talked about 'not being invited onto Sacred Symbols' during his initial worse game of the year choice which would've been bold!

I don’t know what’s crazier: Cog putting a game he hasn’t played in his Top 5, or Matty calling Deathloop the worst game he played this year. You guys be bugging. lol

Just finished the episode. You guys kill it together. This show and DDU gave me hours of entertainment this year. Thanks guys and Happy New Year! It’s total nonsense that the NPD guy and others have you blocked for being a part of LSM but (selfishly) I’m glad you’re willing to endure the BS to be a part of this team. It sounds like it’s worth it for you both as well, thankfully.

Cog telling it like it is with Returnal! Happy New Year boys.

I think Deathloop is trash. It's hard to take Cog's opinion on it seriously without playing it, would like to listen to what he thinks of it after he plays it.

Since Matty said no one has called him out, I’ll call out how exhausting it is for Matty to over and over and over dump on Deathloop and Far Cry 6. Granted this was a best/worst of 2021. But the way he does it might be entertaining for some but it’s a huge turn off if you actually enjoyed these games. Basically, he comes across “you are stupid for liking this game.” He says that’s not his intent over and over. But it’s a big reason I’ve taken a big step away from his other content. At this point it’s an instant turn off or fast forward. I want meaningful and insightful criticism. But, in my opinion, the constant hyperbole is less mature than Matty thinks it is. I am thankful for the flannel discussion and Cog’s interpretation efforts really helped. Hoping Matty enjoys 2022 much more. I like happy and positive Matty better!

Far cry 6 is my goat. I disrespect Mattys opinion so much right now. Truth or lies? You chose lies. But that’s ok, still a great episode
