What happened to Electronic Arts-owned studio BioWare? Once the crown jewel of EA's family of devs, BioWare has experienced nearly a decade of consistent struggle, and now it's been hit with yet another punch: The loss of Dragon Age's Creative Director, seemingly on not-great terms, injuring a game that's already been in development for some six years. Needless to say, BioWare is a shadow of its former self with no true identity, begging the question: Is it even worth saving at all? Plus: Other news! Chrono Cross Remastered is apparently on the verge of being announced, while Sony is the newest company to be sued by its own employees, this time a female accusing the corporation of gender bias. Meanwhile, some dedicated and talented fans are in the midst of salvaging the online functionality of some of PlayStation 3's most important exclusives, while Hideo Kojima is finally getting into the movie industry, though we're unsure if that's where he belongs. After all of this (and more), we get into some listener inquiries to wrap things up. What in God's name is going on with Battlefield 2042? Are there rules that determine who's included in the credits of video games? Is scalping consoles really a worthwhile financial endeavor? Should Colin, Chris, and Dustin name their new child Drilin or Crustin (or both)?

Raymond Aludino

Even during the holidays?! Niceee.

Frank G.

Mmmm it's a pretty big 🦃🍗 of an episode. Time to dig in, gobble gobble 😝 mutha fucka

Jacob

ahh crap. as a Canadian, i would have gladly gone the rest of my life without knowing Cruz was an export of ours…

Tonys_Always_Write

According to factcheck.org, but regardless it would absolutely end up in court. Q: Is Sen. Ted Cruz, who was born in Canada, eligible to be the U.S. president? A: Most likely. The legal consensus is that Cruz qualifies because he was born to a U.S. citizen living abroad, making him a U.S. citizen at birth.

Joe McPartlin

If I ever write in it will for sure be addressed to "Drillin"

Andrew Morgan

Big thanks and shoutout to the editing team for getting this done on a holiday.

I believe Dragon age origins is amazing.

Kenneth Oms

Happy belated thanks giving to you, your family, and the last stand crew! Really great what you’re doing for Andy. Such a sad situation.

Episode is going great, minus the blue balls the bioshock tease gave me😂

So much respect lost in that Dragon Age Origins sucks comment. Brilliant storytelling and excellent strategy that took my life for 300+ hours. Curious how many hours Colin played before giving up.

Max Stahl

I can't wait for you to appear on Tim Pool's show, Colin! I presume that it was canceled or rescheduled due to the COVID outbreak amongst their crew.

LastStandMedia

I wrote the official IGN strategy guide for it. It was my life for a month. I played it far more deeply than most, I assure you.

Joaquin Branche

Colin, I listened to the episode before commenting this week! Question, EA shopped Bizarre Creations before shutting them down, that being said wouldn't they try and sell the studio instead of shuttering them? Or are they too far gone? Certainly Xbox would be them given their history..

Colin, I know you're a huge beatles fan, as am I. You planning on watching Peter Jackson's Get Back?

William Holbert

What a pantheon of topics. You guys really work hard. Thank you guys.

Say what you will about Fortnite, but they are pretty good at nailing big events. With each season ending and opening, Epic has found cool ways to create one off experiences for its fans. Their virtual concerts have been some fun, trippy, Disney ride type stuff. Travis Scott and Ariana Grande were the two biggest, with smaller events for a DJ I think. All this to say, having Harmonix to help flesh out these events will be really cool to see. I don't think it'll go to the level of a Rock Band, but having veterans in the music space can't hurt. Most of the audience here probably doesn't care too much about anyone Fornite will have on its internal must have list of musical guests, but having such a big game push forward digital concerts and events could lead to that future we talk about that has special VR experiences for our own favorite bands.

Amplitude was one of those ps2 games that I had on a demo disc as a young kid and I loved it. I was somewhat sheltered back then and had no real taste of secular music. That being said, I think the disc only had a couple songs, but I have really fond memories of playing Cherry Lips by Garbage over and over and thinking I was so cool. I was excited to find out about the remake of amplitude a few years back, but was quickly over it when I saw it didn’t have any licensed music.

Joseph smith

This is legitimately the only proper video game podcast on the planet. Well done gentlemen.

Joseph smith

Defining Duke kicks ass as well.

Domenico Smarto

Glad to see I’m not the only one who really likes Far Cry 6. I’m also a big fan of the franchise played through 5 and new Dawn solo then a second time with a friend in coop. Where I ended up 100% New Dawn.

Joey Burgos

Thoughts and prayers going out to the twin and his family

Harley K

Great episode. On the physical games discussion, in Canada ps store purchases were tax free but that changed earlier this year. I still buy digital because of the convenience, but have friends who switched back.

Travis B

Chrono trigger will not be remade just like ff6 will not. If it isnt broke, do not fix it.

James Good

Hey Gents some clarification on the ted cruz discussion. Ted Cruz was born in Canada to a U.S. mother and a Cuban father. His mother was a naturalized U.S. citizen so he received U.S. citizenship at birth as well as Canadian citizenship. Canada has Jus Soli (birthright citzenship). He renounced his canadian citizenship in 2014. It's a complicated matter but all ballot challenges and courts ruled in his favor.

Chris my friend castlevania is the gold standard for video game adaptation shows. And it’s animated. Much love gents!

Where did this “in the can” phrase originate? Are these future episodes using the bathroom?

Alan Hayden

I offer my condolences to the family affected by the shooting tragedy ❤️🙏. Thanks for bringing this up Colin. We're 'All for one and one for all' in this community.

As a fan of both pods, it was kind of cool to see the XboxEra shout out on SS. I remember XboxEra also mentioning Colin's Bloodborne rumor info too. Idk it's just neat to see this as someone who consumes a ton of podcasts. Also, it's funny that XboxEra leaks more Sony and Nintendo stuff than Xbox stuff. Also, I'm curious whether Colin is interested in the Halo Infinite campaign since he is such a big Far Cry fan. They are both first-person open-world shooters, and Halo definitely has better AI than Far Cry.

Cole Minder

“Man, space is cool. I like games that do the space stuff.” Riveting commentary from Dustin 😂

Andrew McGregor

Got to agree with Colin regarding Far Cry 6, getting towards the end and been loving it. The story missions are varied and the story intriguing. Taking over the outposts and checkpoints feels purposeful as part of the story and enjoyable. Great show as always guys, hope you had a great thanksgiving.

NeO JD

Damn Col, how you gonna tease me with that BioShock info?

Greg Hommel

Battlefield is getting shit on so badly. People, with the caveat that I have had crossplay off since the beginning, there is nothing that wrong with this game. There are plenty of examples of the weapon and load out details don’t show up until I back out and rejoin. In Portal you can’t use the Plus attachment system or go prone. Plenty of little things but widespread network instability does not exist. There is no comparison to Battlefield V or even worse Battlefield 4 and the problems with those launches. Why the hyperbole?

LastStandMedia

Working on corroborating! If I don't hear anything, I'll let you guys know what I heard and place it solely in the rumor category.

LastStandMedia

It's not looking good, but I'm not sure what draws out people's hyperbole. Other than that -- with so many 'free' options -- people are going to be harder and harder on full-paid games.

Greg Hommel

Hey community, I asked the question in this podcast about context sensitive dialogue. I feel like the boys may have missed the point. The example of Aloy in the Horizon preview was relating to describing your actions as you take them. Describing things that are happening that aren’t scripted and didn’t have to happen. Spider-Man was not a good example of what I’m describing. I did not stick with Red Dead 2. I’d like to poll the community; does Red Dead 2 contain the type of advanced conversation I’m describing, or is it just great dialogue describing story beats and scripted moments? The article Colin pointed me to was great and if it is properly realized, you will all understand what my rambling is referring to.

Was thinking about the physical releases… as long PSN prices are so much more expensive because compared to retail that has to be competitive, it’s hard to move all people over… if digital was same price or cheaper like it is on pc, then the physical market would die off way sooner… but retail tends to be usually like 20-40% cheaper very short post launch.

Josh Lucas

From what I understand, the studio that made the GTA remasters is actually not well regarded. Their previous ports to mobile have not been well received, at least from what I’ve seen from GTA fans online.

Colin mentioned the discord again, could someone please tell me how to link the accounts. Is there an invitation or link I need to follow?

Scott

I almost had a heart attack when Colin said Dragon Age: Origins sucks. HOW DARE YOU COLIN MORIARTY. Im glad I blew you up in megaton all those years ago haha. Enjoy your day. Fantastic episode again.

Brannon H

Chris is 100% right about mashed potatoes

Kickstand

I was definitely tricked that back 4 blood was an Xbox exclusive for a couple weeks. No interest in the game though.

Kickstand

It was a very good game. I agree with him it is B-tier offering compared to Mass Effect

Can "Doing space stuff!" be a new merch line please? 🙏

Kevin Cooper

I agree with Colin wholeheartedly on his feelings about Far Cry 6 -- particularly his point about earning the map. The Northern parts of the map actually feel too dangerous to approach from the onset, which makes opening up the map a more rewarding experience as you progress. In many ways, this sense of danger reminds me of the original Mercenaries on PS2 that had a "Cards" system for the targets you had to eliminate... and if you were attempting to go after a high-rank card too soon, the anxiety of sneaking into the territory was palpable. That's how I feel about the higher-ranked areas in FC6.

Sam Lee

I personally find it exciting when a creative wants to expand into different mediums, sure it may not turn out well but Kojima isn't getting any younger and as the kids say these days, YOLO. Even if it doesn't work out he's got a big enough fanbase that will welcome him back with open arms and wallets. Speaking of Kojima, has anyone read his recently released biography, The Creative Gene? Just got my copy yesterday and can't wait to dive in.

Stefan Catinella

So I interpreted your comments about Dragon Age as Origins was good, but Dragon Age 2 and Inquisition were shit. Having read your responses to these comments I see now that you also hate Origins. I am now crestfallen. I love Origins so much!

David Kramme

Yeah agreed, Colin's take on Origins was a shock, I played on GP last year and loved.

Christopher Smith

I’m here to say that Colin’s take on origins is completely wrong.

lazer_josh

Talking about far cry 6, specifically when you enter the capital city and you aren't safe, Colin says "that's not far cry". In Far Cry 2 this was also the case! You get shot up in the main cities if your weapon is out or opposing factions notice you.

LastStandMedia

It's awesome, it slows you down and forces a more methodical approach. That's unusual for Far Cry, and I like the change in formula.

Roman Haljkevic

Hello Papa C and sons C and D, Last episode you imagined not having a PS4 and the incredible game list one might have. I love games (especially from Sony studios) and I am very fascinated with the industry. That is why I love listening to your podcast, so thank you for that. The twist? I don't own a ps5 or a ps4. Do I want? Yes. Am I waiting until I'm financially able and able to give some time toward the hobby? Yes. I do own and occasionally play on a PS3 still (which I got when the ps4 came out) and on a Switch that my 6 and 4 year old boys love to play on too. I imagine my 9 month old boy will be playing that too. So yeah, this type of gamer that you described exists, they are a fan of yours, and thank you for mentioning us. Love Roman Haljkevic, from Niagara Falls Canada

FluffyNeko

Easter eggs in games started because the people who made the old atari games wanted their name in the game because they weren't given any credit by the publishers.

lazer_josh

I like the space games that do the space stuff too Dustin.

Greg Bruce

A bit late but just got to the discussion around physical sales and the seemingly confounding preference. I have to say that I am delighted I decided to pick up the disc version of the PS5; not only do I have an pretty large physical backlog from past sales / gifts, but I also just realized my local library system has video games to borrow. In the past month, I've borrowed and completed Sackboy's Big Adventure and Life is Strange: True Colors, have Doki Doki Literature Club ready for pickup, and on the waitlist for several other games (including newer releases like Hades, Deathloop, Rift Apart, and Alan Wake Remastered). These are games that I have interest in, but would typically get to long after their releases while I waited for a sale as I slowly worked through my backlog, but having these physical games available to rent allows me to jump in more currently and enjoy some of the zeitgeist. This also extends to Switch games which notoriously rarely see sales; I've borrowed Metroid Dread and Pokemon within the past month. Just another +1 reason for physical games to those who are fortunate enough to have libraries that carry games near them.

LastStandMedia

Hey Roman. Use the weekly threads to write in (this sounds like that kind of feedback). <3

LastStandMedia

We did the library PSA months ago! Lots of people were writing in about that. We're stoked that's a resource.
