Mark Your Calendars | Sacred Symbols: A PlayStation Podcast Episode 165

It's true: Things have been pretty slow in the world of PlayStation. Returnal and Ratchet have kept us busy enough, and we're looking forward to Deathloop, but what we really crave are some announcements, a tease of what's to come. Thankfully, some more announcements have finally arrived. For starters, Horizon: Forbidden West has a firm launch date, a new Saints Row is launching on both PS4 and PS5, Destiny 2 is getting its fresh expansion, and that long-rumored XCOM Marvel game is en route, too. The bad news? They all come out within weeks of each other. Go figure. We also discuss yet more rumors of the cancellation of PS4-exclusive vaporware Wild, the six-month delay of the next WWE game, a fresh release window for the oft-delayed LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga, and more, before taking listener inquiries on our game of the year (so far), sticking lootboxes behind an M rating, et cetera, before diving deep into the ideal ambient temperature for our respective homes, which is itself a vital topic. PRETENTIEUX

White people are featured in media made by white people for white people to buy and that's ok. Make whatever games you want. Imagine if you did a beautiful painting and someone asked you "ok nice but why is he black?" There's no right answer just ignore it. This is probably the same case for why video games are targeted at men: they have historically been made by mostly men and there's nothing wrong with that! Would you expect a group of black women to get together and write a story about a bunch of white boys and then try to sell it in India?

Been itching for an episode...

Frank G.

Eeeew European style date formats.

As soon as the show wraps Chris is oscar-mike to link back up with bravo company 😂

Rage.Quit_Richard

Love the peek behind the curtain with the double take on horizon news!

Dustin Furman

This is getting fixed! Waiting for the YouTube edit to go through :( -Dustin

Eight Days was the game you are thinking of. The trailer also had the most fake HUD during shooting I've ever seen. https://youtu.be/RDOZvKWXDP4

Max Payne 3 hid the loading with cutscenes and that game released back in 2012

Julian Zhu

Absolute banger to follow up the concern about length last week with a 3hr+ show this week. Great episode as always guys!

Chris don't think it's intentional that a graphically unimpressive and linear game like COD is hundreds of gigs bigger than Red Dead Redemption 2? I don't buy it. I don't think there's a conspiratorial reason for it, I just think Activision don't care.

The Rift Apart PS3 video misses one key component the SSD. It allows the PS5 to have the speed for the load times to be hidden behind the linear Rift while giving 4K 60fps. The PS4 at 1080p 30fps, then maybe the Hard Drive will be able to do it, the PS3 with that Hard Drive and ram will literally better at 720p with a 20-30 FPS. If you want it to be instantaneous like the PS5, with the rifts popping in less than a second. That’s why I actually agree with the Devs this is only capable with the SSD’s speed. It would be taxing on any HD.

2014 was one of the worse years for games in recent memory besides this one. Unless I’m misremembering, GOTY contenders were like Middle Earth: Shadow of Mordor and Dragon Age: Inquisition. Still more games than this year though, I think.

Colin your better watch your mouth with that reboot Beyond Good & Evil talk 👁👁

This. Lots of games released in awful states, big titles that didn't match up, and microwaved remasters from the previous generation.

I think the video notes that the resolution and framerate would need to drop substantially.

Andrew Gambill

Big wrestling fan and wrestling game fan. Not sure how much it has bled into the games, but WWE management is a bit of a mess with massive layoffs despite record profits and terrible creative, most of the issues are attributed to Vince Mcmahon. There have been rumors in the wrestling industry that there is some serious tension and conflict between the WWE and 2K. AEW is absolutely on the come up and is dong so many of the things well that WWE is doing wrong.

Brian Lau

Big wrestling fan and game fan as well. Kenny Omega (one of the AEW stars) was the one who reached out to the guy who created the old No Mercy games to help make this game that we all use to love on the N64. Also love the video game debates at the AEW shows with signs such as "Tales of Cold Steel > FF7" or "Kefka > Sephiroth".

Shane Boyle

I don't think the show is too long at all. Is it long? sure, but it's segmented in a really logical way that enables listening to it in shorter chunks if needs be. In any event, since subbing, I love the balance of longer form/shorter form content that's available; if my kid is out of the house for the afternoon, I can grind some Destiny and put on a 3 hour Sacred Symbols. Alternatively if I've got a an hour or two spare, I can put on a shorter form SS+ or DDU. Something for every occasion :)

LastStandMedia

Indeed! I don't understand why so many people don't understand that there's choice, here. =)
