Over the weekend, we got to lay our hands on arguably Xbox's largest third party investment across Day One Game Pass titles. That game is the highly anticipated Back 4 Blood which aims to carry the Left 4 Dead torch which is sorely missing a third entry. With this void remaining present, Turtle Rock aims to strike at the proper time and capture a hungry audience. The question is, when the nostalgia wipes off and we see it clearly for what it is, is it enough? For that, Matty & Cog team up to analyze all the new mechanics and all of what is very familiar in this new zombie (sorry, Ridden!) horde game.

Not gonna lie after playing it a bit this weekend I wasn't super sold on it, but after listening to this episode and their excitement and viewpoints it made me take another look and realize I might like it more than I originally thought. Still going to depend on if I've got friends to play with. Great episode guys!

L4D never grabbed me but I’m willing to give B4B a shot. Good coverage boys.

Game was completely broken for me. Would launch for 2-5 seconds and then disconnect me from the server. Seriously disappointed

Lord Cognito

Definitely a must with friends in my opinion. I hear you and thanks! - Cog

Terrible gunplay, really shoddy game. Felt dated. But, good episode.

Context Should Matter

This game doesn’t feel like L4D. It feels like a COD zombie mode. It’s unfortunate that it just lacks the L4D soul. It makes me actually just want to go back and play L4D which isn’t a bad thing.

I enjoyed it. I’m definitely gonna play it on game pass but I feel like once I play through each section once, I’m putting it down for good.

2021-09-09 14:05:16 I have to wonder if modding is a reality for this Game. The first thing you see (on PC) is an anti-cheat software used in a lot of other online Games that also don't support mods, not to mention the always online requirement and lean towards monetization. Also the push for it as a multiplatform, cross-play release could cause conflicts if PC's users have feature disparity with console users. Finally in Q&A the Devs said there wasn't going to be mod support, with a tepid "at launch" fixture at the end. Which I personally think was just an attempt to curve off a rough edge and get through the interview; rather than any sort confirmation. I kinda question the Game's legs considering, not only the modding situation, but also fact that this is launching a week before Battlefield! As someone who didn't enjoy the beta so much, I'm interested in seeing how Turtle Rock handle the Game post launch, because I have a tonne of questions about this Game's future. Enjoyed your perspective though guys. It may not be the Game for me but I'm glad you came out with some good impressions. Makes me wanna keep an eye on it for a potential return down the road.
