Last week saw the PC savvy Valve announce their entrance into the console market in the form of a handheld that aims to bring the PC experience in Switch-like form factor. As Team Handheld, Matty and Lord Cognito immediately love what they see, but the potential in Steam Deck goes beyond that of Valve. Indeed, it is the potential Xbox has to grow through this device like many others as we continue to wonder if Xbox will finally enter the handheld market. Beyond that, Xbox saw a record month in hardware sales likely thanks to their strong E3 2021 showcase. Together, we analyze the numbers and if they represent the future of Xbox's success? That success is due to a commitment of exclusives! One of which has now been delayed in the name of Fatshark's Warhammer 40,000: Darktide. It has slipped into 2022, so the team discusses. More importantly, your Patron questions such as Cog's commitment to the New York Mets and Matty's broken heart over Mega Man. It's a fire episode, so get cozy!

Big titty drinker

Do you guys think xbox and playstation are even competing anymore? What I mean by this is that they dont seem to have the same goals. Playstation wants to sell the most consoles they can where xbox wants to put thier ecosystem as many places as they can. Even in terms of what they offer in terms of games they are very different. What appeals to playstation fans doesnt seem to appeal to xbox fans and vice versa. So they can both sell well without impeding the others growth becuase people go to each for something different. I kinda see it like how Nintendo is, they sell great but they provide an experience so different from others that they are kinda thier own thing. I know becuase of the history this may be hard to believe but ps5 and xbox seem like they might stop competing against each other altogether.

Am I crazy or is there an audio loop from the 11:00 - 13:00 minute mark? Matty repeats the same write in.

With respect, I think Matty might be a bit confused on how the Steam Deck works -- you don't need to wipe the OS to put emulators on it. It comes out of the box with a full Linux operating system, which can install Dolphin, mGBA, basically any emulator you want to throw at it. For all we know, Proton might even be able to handle Game Pass games, but that's a lot more up in the air at the moment, so using it as a Game Pass device might require installing Windows, but you absolutely don't need to wipe it for any emulation, or installing other apps like Discord, the Epic Store, Spotify, web browsers to watch Netflix, whatever.

Thanks for reading my question!

Clay Layne

I asked the same question and now its missing. Either way. Its all good just wondered if I was crazy!

Greg Mocha

100% this. Emulation works day one. I’m surprised they didn’t read up on things given how important this announcement is.

MrMattyPlays

Hey Evan! Appreciate the correction here. I was under the interpretation that the OS wipe was required for reach beyond the Steam OS when watching IGN’s coverage of the Steam Deck. I don’t believe it derails my point on emulation and the system’s potential, but the more knowledge the better, so thank you!

Evan Bederman

Appreciate the reply, Matty! I wholly agree, if anything my correction was meant to strengthen your point that the Deck's emulation potential is a major selling point. I personally have one reserved to mostly be my machine for emulators and indies with mods.

Andrew McGregor

Loved the discussion on older Star Wars games, KOTOR of course is the goat, but surprised no mention of Jedi Knight, JK2 and Jedi academy. Loved the show, keep up the good work.

Andreas Lennartsson

Wow Matty. Here I thought you were one of the good ones being a Rangers fan. But now you telling me you're ALSO an Oilers fan? ALSO?

Andrew Morgan

Matty, it was 100% fire 🔥🔥

Have you heard of the GPD Win, they been doing portable pc gaming for a couple of years? I’m surprised with all the PC gamers no one is talking about that also the Price is about twice as much.

Dano Bass

Ick, the Ubisoft situation makes me afraid they're courting amazon.

Just little heads up that Psychonauts 2 Is also coming to Playstation 4, as a purchasable game. However Psychonaughts 3 might not ever see the light of day. As I understand its was a deal set before the acquisition of DF.
