Sony has finally announced a couple of first party acquisitions (and preemptively leaked a third), and while one target has been a very long time in coming, the other is out of left field, indicating that PlayStation is thinking more broadly about how, when, and in what fashion it gets its products into the world. Naturally, we delve deep, welcome Housemarque and Nixxes to the family... and pretty much do the same for Bluepoint, too, though at the time we're recording, a ring isn't yet on its finger. Plus, more news! A peculiar Konami partnership reignites persistent rumors, Sucker Punch's Ghost of Tsushima is getting a native PS5 port and an expansion, Remedy is going all-in on Control, Falcom and NIS America are giving Trails fans exactly what they want, and more. Then: Listener inquiries! Will Kevin Butler ever make a comeback? When will PlayStation 5 games come to PC? Which video game websites (if any) are worth your time? Did Colin accidentally get a listener disciplined at work?

3 + hours?! Cinema

Stephen Forgione

Man just what I needed to start July 4th weekend: a ten minute intro on death.

PuppiesOnParade

I've been dying waiting for this episode. Let's dive in boys!

Jacob

ahh, its nice to get my weekly dose of existentialism within the first 10 mins of the show. i almost forgot i was locked into a definitive march towards oblivion

Corey Adams

Is it “another call-in show” or “another Colin” show? 🤔

Stephen Forgione

Look at it this way, death is a lot like being stupid: it only sucks for other people!

Kenneth Oms

It seems the Kojima Xbox project has to do with a game he was supposedly working on for Google Stadia that was canceled because Stadia is a shit show as we know. It was reportedly episodic so I can see why Sony wouldn’t want this. But like you said Col, kojima could be working on multiple games. He was scaling his studio up after death stranding

Anonymous

"I'm a gamer not because I have no life, but because I choose to have many" Couldn't help but think of that stupid t-shirt quote with the existential topic 😅

Jake Z

Colin, whatever happened to Ratchet and Clank Into the Nexus, or Disco Elysium, or the VR initiative? You're giving me blue balls.

Jeff Caseres

In regards to the Iain Garner topic, I just want to point out how towards the end of his Twitter thread, he mentions something about him being white and privileged and how it’s hard for him still. I don’t know if anyone else sees it but that’s a perfect example of how MONEY is what gives you privilege, not the color of your damn skin. 😆 just wanted to point that out. Great episode so far! Currently listening to it now as I work.

Retlaw

The reason Charlie keeps referring to Pepe Sylvia is because he is misreading Pennsylvania on all the mail

NukeDukem

I knew Dustin would say something about a Bloodborne remaster by Bluepoint. That’s gotta be a move they make. He read my mind!

Jamie Milligan

This will help me through the purgatory that is work tomorrow. Thanks for picking my question guys. Much love.

The talk about death is always a good reminder of just how great of persona 3. The entire story line is about loss and death and acceptance. It’s why it’s my favorite persona. Gave me panic attacks cause I start thinking about death and the universe lol

P Neal

Front mission was beast mode. Also the story of those games were amazing.

Josh Lucas

Started listening before going out for my birthday and you guys are talking about death 😂 thanks for getting me in the mood to party lmao

ToastIX

I'm enjoying Scarlet Nexus as well, but am feeling little critical that over 90% of the cinematic storytelling is told through still images. Seeing how this is Namco's flagship release this year I would have expected fully animated cutscenes for a game of Tales pedigree. It seems clear that the story's scope of ambition didn't meet the game's budget. Regardless, the game is still fun and is definitely worth a recommendation. It's also worth mentioning that there is simultaneous anime that is currently airing now that is worth watching.

Big titty drinker

Death stranding is better experienced through youtube videos explaining the lore, than actually being played as a game. From a lore perspective it's very interesting but as a game it's a complete chore to play. I'm not surprised it didnt sell well.

Jeremy Seal

Microsoft paid for positive coverage after the Xbox One reveal, so it has happened. I'm not saying it's happening now, but it has.

LastStandMedia

Time. I run two businesses, am writing two games, appear on 3-4 weekly shows, and still play like 30-50 hours of games a week!

LastStandMedia

It's very budget, I agree. Not knowing much about it before going in, that also surprised me. That said, I'd consider Tales their AAA release this year.

Brandon Soto

Really hope we get another Super Stardust or Resogun. Would be a shame if those series are dead. We desperately need Infamous, Killzone, & Resistance off of PS3. I’d take a collection or complete remaster.

Getting a dog is an investment for the worst day of your life True, just lost my girl of 6 years, been a rough 10 weeks. BUT it was the best 6 years of my life, so the pain sucks, but the memories are great

Tanner Lange

How dare Collin recommend the reignited trilogy over the og games! No hate lol

James Pies

I'm surprised Colin didn't express any interest in playing A Plague Tale when going over the July PS Plus lineup . The game has some serious Last of Us parallels in presentation and gameplay. I'm sure he'd dig it.

NeO JD

The Kevin Butler talk just made me miss Jackie T. Nobody will ever go out on top again like he did after that Xbox One presser. I’ll remember his smile until the end of my days.

AllTooEasy_

My god Maldonado, let the Last of Us Part II go. The take on Sony can’t get that Kevin Butler level of fun back was just way off. We get it, you didn’t like the game but at some point you got to move on.

David P

I guess I wouldn't be missing out but I hope they don't buy FromSoft. They make my favorite games and I genuinely want everyone to enjoy them where they want. I'm even cool with second party exclusives, I love Bloodborne. Just don't want that exclusivity for all of them, else we get more situations where Bloodborne never gets fucking touched and can't be played on PC for a better experience. I'm convinced Sony would sooner remake that game than just give us a nice remaster or straight port. That's all I ask. Usually I'm neutral to these buy outs because I have every platform... but FS is my favorite studio.

Josh Lucas

The increase in resolution is what I’ll be buying the PS5 upgrade for in Ghost of Tsushima. The current backwards compatible version on PS5 looks a little soft now compared to other titles. I can’t wait to see it in (dynamic) 4K, although I am with you that it shouldn’t cost an extra $10.

Michael Buffill

I get ppl are upset about the pricing for the Ghost Of Tsushima DLC but hey, they gave us the Legends mode for free which easily was worth at least $20.

Anonymous

Hey guys, I literally never browse the PlayStation Store looking for new games. I occasionally look at the sales but that’s it. I just find it frustrating and a waste of time. I’m curious if there are others like myself?

Peabody

Same here. I’ll occasionally just browse their deals, but I never just peruse. As shaky as the Switch store is, I probably spend more time going through those deals even more so than the PSN.

Anonymous

other than trying to use recognizable characters, i don’t understand these companies trying to retell stories we’ve already seen in video games instead of just telling a unique story within the games universe. it would be so much better and interesting. why do we need to see the story of The Last of Us or Borderlands again? give us something new

Anonymous

I dug the new outro. The call out of Ramon being Colins best friend was great.

Samuel Ashley

I really liked Control but I’d love for them to figure out a way to make more of the lore into audio logs. I love good lore and I found all the documents interesting, but if you’re like me, you have to read everything and there’s so much of it. It got to be pretty distracting when constantly pausing to read, and I felt like the gameplay and atmosphere suffered for it.

The Eclectic Gamer

Concerning the next gen upgrade discussion…this will likely only be an issue for another couple of months (I hope). We have had FF7R, DOOM Eternal, A Plague Tale and soon Ghost of Tsushima, with The Last of Us Part 2 likely arriving natively in some capacity. Once the older titles have settled, it should be a non issue. I personally think it’s better to just have the delta updates available for whatever system you are downloading on so the file size is smaller. Smart delivery is convenient, but it really is not hard to know about the version you have. Plus, you can always consult the trophy page and if the icon is full size , it’s the PS5 version.

BlindRiot

To Chris’s point, I agree PlayStation is not the system I go to for fun. Will Sony ever be fun again? Furthermore to Colins point, will PlayStation become likable again? If so when?

Bobby Bell

Always good to start the show on a philosophical beat :) I also share the day to day dread of pending tragedies... but I think its healthy to think about them in order to remind yourself of your own fragile mortality. It keeps us in a healthy state of gratitude. Amor Fati!

Matthew Kessler

Colin, you mentioned Mercury Steam is developing the new Metroid and that fans should be cautious. Mercury Steam also did the last Metroid on the 3DS, Samus Returns, which was great. So luckily, we have a bit of justified optimism.

Douglas Morreale

I'm only a few years older than Colin, but his usage of the word "stan" officially distances us another ten theoretical years apart. I can't stannnnnd that reference being used in the vein of fan or fanboy.
